Harry and Meghan slammed by Spotify executive after podcast deal ends | The Independent

The old thread got closed, just as I was trying to quote tweet someone! So I've started this one, because this shitshow is still rumbling on

Who is defending animal cruelty? Unless you're vegan, we're all cruel to animals. I am not defending anything. I am telling you the facts. He was cleared of one case. The poster claimed he has been repeatedly accused.

YOU are defending animal cruelty! By whom was he "cleared"? There was nothing like a court case about it. The animal was bleeding and in distress. He's always been a bit of a Yob. Meghan is an animal lover. Didn't she make him sell his sporting guns?

The lengths some people go to defend Harry are ridiculous

Ohpleeeease · 18/07/2023 14:38

And I hope she can bob off on her own when or if she needs space. In my experience, although I’m from a different generation and then some, mums didn’t often get the luxury.

She does, and has. She chooses happiness, remember.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 18/07/2023 14:39

@derxa but, once again, I am not defending anything. The only example I found of animal cruelty involving Harry was a case in 2010, which whatever organisation oversees polo competitions investigated and cleared him. What I am doing is stating facts. I a m not commenting on whether or not players should be permitted to use spurs. I am stating what the facts are.

I do think most of us are hypocrites when we get engaged in animal welfare discussions, because we are all cruel by using animals unnecessarily- unless vegan- and all we are picking over is different degrees of it. I ride horses so I can;t exactly criticise polo players who use spurs. The act of breaking in horses is cruel, theres no way around it. So... I don't defend or criticise

Fair enough!

Today I’m pretty much choosing chocolate and a desire to manage the extra shifts I’ve been saddled with over anything else.

Choosing happiness might be nice but today chocolate wins.

Good on her. If I'd had the opportunity to escape for some peace and quiet and a good night's sleep, I would have done the same as her. In fact, no kids now, and I'd still like to do that. 😴

Gracewithoutend · 18/07/2023 16:26

What I thought was awful was that the injury was caused by the spurs. When Harry discovered the injury, he stopped and had the horse looked at. But then he remounted, spurs still being worn, and carried on playing. So each time he dug the spurs in after that, he'd be doing it around and on the cut. Apparently he loved that pony. 🤔 I'm not doubting he did but it didn't stop him enjoying his game while potentially inflicting more hurt on it.

Maireas · 18/07/2023 16:33

I had no idea Harry had been involved in animal cruelty - I thought he loved animals and wanted to work with them! All that talk about working in conservation in Africa?

Gracewithoutend · 18/07/2023 16:41

To be fair, I don't think he would define himself as being cruel. But polo is hard on horses. I don't think it means he doesn't care about conservation and protection of wild animals.

Ohpleeeease · 18/07/2023 17:15

Both Meghan and Kate took off for some “Me” time when their babies were tiny. They both have access to the best childcare money can buy, and have involved grandparents. That’s one area where they are luckier than most.

Wheresthebeach · 18/07/2023 17:18

One of his ponies died at a match - was that the same one with the spurs injury? Anyone can Google and read about it.

No, that was a different horse. It died just after the match finished. It was only 10. Of course, it could have been entirely unrelated to the polo match.

Omg I really hope that’s not true. Poor horse.

It's all a bit at odds with his love of blasting birds bred for the fun of killing them out of the sky and gurning over the corpse of the water buffalo he'd just killed, isn't it?

No word on that or on the suspect deaths of protected birds of prey at Sandringham which personally I'd have preferred to see in 'Spare' rather than some of the more lurid revelations.

CathyorClaire · 18/07/2023 20:52

Link to rather barbaric looking polo spurs (one of which is touted as the Prince of Wales spur. Hmmm.):

Let's not forget the jolly whips:

Ohpleeeease · 18/07/2023 20:57

When did Kate do this?

I seem to remember Kate and William had a holiday when George was tiny. Just trying to be even handed, if I’d only mentioned Meghan (who went off to a tennis match I think) I’d have got jumped on!

Ohpleeeease · 18/07/2023 21:00

Technically Kate’s ME time was WE time, but you get my gist. Baby free.

I don't think it's actually The Prince of Wales' spur. It's just the name for that type of spur. But Charles and William both love polo so they might well be using some type of spur, although it's a choice and not obligatory.

Polo is just a horrible sport for the ponies.

CathyorClaire · 18/07/2023 21:25

Nevertheless it's an interesting marketing choice.

We finally concur 😏

I remember when my ds1 was about 9 months old, my dps offered to have him for a couple of nights so dh and I could get a break. Dh said he didn’t think my dps could manage 🙃. I was gutted and I was a devoted mum. I’d never judge a mum for having a break. It’s a hard job.

Ohpleeeease · 18/07/2023 22:41

@Gilmorehill Crikey, most DHs would have snapped their hand off! I hope you got your few days together in the end!

I'd forgotten the Hen Harrier incident.
From the Guardian -

"Wildlife campaigners have called on Prince Harry to use his forthcoming memoirs to help solve a 14-year mystery about the killing of two of Britain’s rarest birds over one of the Queen’s estates.
In October 2007, just a few weeks after his 23rd birthday, Harry was questioned by the police after two hen harriers, a legally protected species, were seen being shot over Sandringham in Norfolk.

The prince had been out shooting on the estate on the evening of 24 October, with family friend William van Cutsem, then 28, when the incident occurred. At the time the Queen was a patron of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Witnesses said they saw two hen harriers in flight being shot, an offence under wildlife protection legislation which carries a prison sentence of up to six months or a fine."

The whole thing was hushed up at the time.

The whole thing was hushed up at the time.

And let's not forget the royals got ample time to do it thanks to the police disgracefully having to actually ask their permission to enter their estates to investigate:

Nomoreheroics · 19/07/2023 10:42

I was disgusted that Charles traps magpies on his estates and kills them. I understand magpies are a bit of a menace but just to catch them in a cafe and kiln them seems really cold blooded.
