I saw Johnny Depp’s latest advert for Sauvage and wondered if it was him!

I’m about 10 years older than Meghan but do know women of her age. Would they buy Dior based on her wearing it? Maybe, maybe not. Women who are much younger, would they aspire to look like Meghan? I really don’t know.

I’ve personally never been a Dior fan really, maybe the make up when it was popular with the lipsticks and I do have 2 bags, but it’s not something I love.. I keep seeing the raffia Cior logo bags and I can’t think of anything more naff but then I don’t like big logos.

I don’t relate to Meghan’s beauty either, Kate’s is more my style though I don’t like/dislike either of them.

What I found most interesting about that article is the way that Harry and Meghan were separated into two entities who are on entirely different trajectories - her on the up and looking forward with deals galore on the table, and him on the down, still obsessed with his previous royal misery.

Someone up-thread said Meghan hasn't supported Harry in recent weeks, but it's been months. The only times I can remember seeing them together this year is: 1) the kiss cam thing where she gave him the brush-off and 2) her award in NYC, which resulted in the 'near catastrophic car chase' debacle and turned into an absolute farce. All the publicity for his book - she was nowhere to be seen, the coronation - she was a no-show, his London court case(s) - again, no Meghan. In EasterEnders parlance 'Woss goin' on?'

Yes, the article was actually really harsh on Harry, calling him toxic and that they’re headed on separate paths. I doubted the rumours of separation/divorce when they first came out, but this along with the hotel story is making me suspect that there might be something more to those claims. This sounds like Meghan is really sick of Harry’s sh*t and blames him for ruining her image.

I think this is probably a spin on some low key link with Dior that's already agreed.

We know Harry wore a Dior suit and they put it on social media. So I presume they have some kind of deal that they'll occasionally wear Dior and in return Dior will publically check it. Probably not very unusual.

All this Duchess of Dior sounds like maybe a nice sound bite to explain a low key relationship. And it does have a good ring to it!

I wonder if Dior will like this type of publicity though.

Dior would want the focus to be on their clothes or accessories, not on the drama surrounding the people wearing them.

I also think they'd want to announce any partnership themselves on one of their official channels, rather than be used as crisis management by Meghan's agency.

StrawberryWasp · 18/06/2023 12:31

Even if the marriage was strained it would be in their interest to stay together.

Surely Meghan's imagine would be worse if they split? She'd appear like she used him and ditched him which wouldn't be good.

And it would be disastrous for him. Stuck in a foreign country, no job, not seeing his kids full time.

So I imagine they'll make it work. It's better for them and the children.

GobbolinoCat · 18/06/2023 12:32

Badger possibly not but in that case maybe that strata of human kind also would not boycott a brand because of the model.

The point being she's a stronger resilient character and that would be good for the brand.

AutumnCrow · 18/06/2023 12:36

Dior also won't like tabloids playing with the Dior brand name. 'Duchess of Dior' could sound infra dig in that world. Tabloid nicknames and plays-on-words will abound.

tigger2022 · 18/06/2023 12:36

I hope it’s true, it sounds like she’s moving forwards and it’s just him continuing the toxic score-settling. She looks good in anything, although I hope Dior fit her outfits better than they did Harry (it was like it was made for someone else)

Dior signs a number of global ambassadors every year. I think they sometimes have a product specific contract (like Depp and the Cologne or Mila Kunis and the bags) and others have more general modeling apparel contracts.

This year (2023) so far they have used 8 global ambassadors including Jimin, Robert Pattinson, Dilraba Dilmurat, Elizabeth Debicki, Jisoo, Anya Taylor-Joy, HAERIN, and Caleb McLaughlin.

I don't even recognize the names of half these people! It seems they usually have a few very famous names and then some other more niche people.

Not sure which names you don't recognise. But most of that list is far from niche
Big names for the Asian market:
Dilraba is a big name in China and one of their highest paid brand ambassadors. Everyone who's everyone wants a piece of her!
Jisoo and Jimin are in the biggest Kpop girl/boy band respectively, Collaborating with big names like Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez, being TIME magazine's entertainer of the year in 2020 for example.

Pattinson and Taylor-Joy you probably recognise. The other 3 are rising stars and yes, they are niche.

As @IcedPurple said the international market is far more lucrative now, especially China (and other East Asians) who are big fans of luxury brands, with the buying power to support it.

WasabiWinner · 18/06/2023 12:39

*oops didn't state band names
Jimin = BTS
Jisoo = Blackpink

Flustercuckoo · 18/06/2023 12:47

I think if Dior are getting in bed with her, they'll regret it.

This deal will end up cancelled like all the others.

Blossomandbee · 18/06/2023 12:47

Love her or hate her, she would get people talking about the brand and any publicity is good publicity.
I think she's distancing herself from Harry and his toxicity too. He made her a household name but has now proven a loose cannon and nothing he's done has been well received. She's very savvy and focussed on furthering her career, I think she's carving out her own future.

CiaoBellisima · 18/06/2023 12:50

MamoruHisaishi · 18/06/2023 04:01

This definitely sounds like a PR spin by Meghan’s team.

She’s trying to manifest again.

tommyshelbysbunnit · 18/06/2023 12:50

I wouldn't mind getting paid to wear Dior

Freefall212 · 18/06/2023 12:53

Meghan has absolutely no problem walking away from people when they are no longer of benefit to her. She has done it to best friends, family, employees, past husbands etc. However Harry comes part and parcel with the connection to the RF and that is her bread and butter. Can she drop Harry but keep the Duchess and RF link? Diana did but I don't know if Meghan can.

Also her social climbing may have peaked. Everyone else was a stepping stone on the way up but I am not sure there is anywhere else to step up to for her. She could aim for an A list billionaire I guess but Elon, Jeff, Larry, Mark, Bill....they either come with controversy or are already taken or are on the older side for her.

IcedPurple · 18/06/2023 12:54

Love her or hate her, she would get people talking about the brand and any publicity is good publicity.

I disagree on two counts.

Firstly, if you're a luxury fashion brand, any publicity is not good publicity. Dior have an image of prestige and exclusivity which they need to maintain, so they aim to be selective in where their brand is promoted and by whom.

Secondly, would people talk about the brand? Or would they just talk about her?

Whenharrymetsmelly · 18/06/2023 12:55

Coconutsandpalmtrees · 18/06/2023 11:46

If she starts working with Dior, that will be the last thing I ever buy from them. I hope many others will also boycott them.

It has been reported by many staff members that she is a bully. Many have quit working for her.

I'm sure they will miss you as a customer 😅

JaceLancs · 18/06/2023 12:55

I too think Dior may regret it unless part of the deal is that they have someone constantly on hand to curate her style, make sure the clothes fit and are not creased etc like Harry’s suit was
Dior would have to work very closely with M and her PR to ensure bizarre things like the recent car chase don’t happen again
I’m not a hater but agree with others that this article smacks of spin by PR team to see if Dior or any other designers show an interest

Coconutsandpalmtrees · 18/06/2023 12:59

Whenharrymetsmelly · 18/06/2023 12:55

I'm sure they will miss you as a customer 😅

I was wondering when that comment would come. If I stop buying from them due to the fact there are working with MM then I am sure many others will too. Their brand reputation is very important and working with something who is less than reputable will really cause a dent in their sales.

BastetsWhiskers · 18/06/2023 12:59

@Whenharrymetsmelly me too! Me and my meagre income!

I think she is still trying to find that sweet spot: how much can she afford to distance herself from him before she becomes irrelevant again? What damage could it do if Harry breaks free from the love spell and allies with his family again against her. The photos of her attending the office of California's premier divorce attorney were taken down minutes after they were posted and the British press has kept schtum. One thing is for sure: she is never content with stopping at a caertain level of fame or wealth. She is constantly striving for more and more power and a shaky, rushed-into marriage won't stop her.

Elior · 18/06/2023 13:04

If her enemy tabloid posts two sympathetic stories in her favour on the same Sunday then you just know they are sitting on something.

pilates · 18/06/2023 13:07

Meghan’s new PR firm must be putting in some serious overtime atm. I do think Duchess Dior sounds a bit naff - not sure she fits the bill anyway.

Ok yes I see your point. Although look at the amount of people talking about it on this thread alone.
I'm sure they would have a watertight contract with conditions if they worked with her.
I don't know, they were just my initial thoughts anyway.

Elior · 18/06/2023 13:10

The recurring problem with the Duchess narrative is that she quit within too short a space of time. She never registered as a knowledgeable member of the royal family, only someone who married a British Prince, couldn't perform in the role and ran off after throwing a few hissy fits.
