Seriously expensive overtime @pilates

Highandlows · 18/06/2023 13:13

Tudor I will stop buying Dior too. My god what are they thinking.

AutumnCrow · 18/06/2023 13:16

She may write a memoir, I suppose. My Story: Surviving Harry. To be fair, I think she deserves some sort of medal for putting up with him; but on the other hand, she's responsible too.

And yes the Mail's story was a real hatchet job on Harry, and yes @Elior the Mail must have something else they're sitting on to spin.

I used to understand why H&M fucked off to North America to get away from the toxic soup of 'The Firm' and the media; but they just made their own toxic 'firm' and relationship with the media in the US.

2bazookas · 18/06/2023 13:18

I watched the Kings birthday parade yesterday and was struck by the delightful fresh outfits worn by Camilla, Kate, even little Charlotte.

Meghan never has managed to dress well; no matter the label or what she spends she always looks like the clothes are wearing her. Just like Beatrice, and Eugenie.

Meghan’s new PR firm must be putting in some serious overtime atm. I do think Duchess Dior sounds a bit naff - not sure she fits the bill anyway.

She doesn't. She doesn't have any class, or decorum etc.

She's been pretty quiet since Harry's book but that's probably because she's pulled all the stings and is watching to see how it pans out and that will determine what she does next.

My bet is that she's distancing herself from Harry after manipulating on the background and causing him mh issues, anger issues, family issues etc, if she divorces him, she'll be on operah and all the rest, bleating about how it was all him, when it's blatantly obvious she wound him up and watched him go.

Now that they haven't got the outcome that she wanted, she's ready to move on.

Dior will be fools to collab with her. My first thought on reading the title of the thread was noooo, I love Dior, but won't buy from them now.

Howsimplywonderful · 18/06/2023 13:27

@2bazookas

I think that Beatrice has really found her style has has looked amazing for quite a while. Did you see her in Jordan at the wedding for example.

EdithWeston · 18/06/2023 13:30

Can she drop Harry but keep the Duchess and RF link? Diana did but I don't know if Meghan can

I really hope that the focus on distancing from Harry is to do with current branding, not at a more personal level.

But as you asked, her position is essentially the same as that of the Duchess of York. After the York divorce, she was no longer HRH (not just an agreement not to use, but actual removal) but could remain Duchess unless she remarried (at which time she would adopt the title/style of putative new spouse).

I was wondering if the story about the link with Dior was more of a response to the other Royal women appearing at a State occasion, rather than in retaliation for the “grifters” story. There always seems to be something that pops up from the Sussexes at these times

I actually think if she did dump H there would be strong public support to have the titles removed. Even if you detest H, you’d have to have a hard heart to not feel sorry for him if the marriage failed and I think that public sympathy for him would lead to calls for the titles to be revoked. I sincerely hope that they stay together for H’s sake and obviously the children.

Meghan has absolutely no problem walking away from people when they are no longer of benefit to her. She has done it to best friends, family, employees, past husbands etc. However Harry comes part and parcel with the connection to the RF and that is her bread and butter. Can she drop Harry but keep the Duchess and RF link? Diana did but I don't know if Meghan can.

Also her social climbing may have peaked. Everyone else was a stepping stone on the way up but I am not sure there is anywhere else to step up to for her. She could aim for an A list billionaire I guess but Elon, Jeff, Larry, Mark, Bill....they either come with controversy or are already taken or are on the older side for her.

But in practical terms, surely her royal life is over. She wasn't at the Coronation and is unlikely to be seen anywhere near the senior royals again. She's spent the past 3 years telling the world how ghastly life as a royal was and how happy she is to have found freedom from all that. Sure, she can still call herself a duchess but outside the royal context it is meaningless and sounds a bit desperate and silly.

She'll always have a royal connection through her children so she no longer needs Harry for that.

Hohohogreenjennie · 18/06/2023 13:37

@2bazookas I think Beatrice has actually become quite stylish recently. Maybe her Italian husband has been an influence on her. She looked gorgeous at the Jordanian crown prince’s wedding 😍

Howsimplywonderful · 18/06/2023 13:42

i was trying to post the same

TheCraicDealer · 18/06/2023 13:47

It’s a real pivot isn’t it’from what they’ve been doing to date. I mean she’s been modelling herself on stateswomen like Hilary Clinton, Michelle Obama, etc- I’m not an expert on either but I’m not aware that they have any endorsement deals or whatever with any brands. To date MM has been doing speaking gigs, trying to set up a charitable foundation and producing feminist podcasts, children’s books and generally trying to give off a vibe of intellectual worthiness. She almost tried to distance herself from her entertainment past and indeed produced an episode of her podcast talking about the issues around the word bimbo where she indicated that she resented being reduced to a pretty face in the past. Tying in with (and literally being a face of) a fashion brand unattainable to the vast, vast majority just doesn’t seem to tally with that vision.

I wonder how many brands they were approached by back in 2020 and who were turned away for fear that it would look a bit “low rent” or cause comparisons with Fergie and her Weightwatchers gig. The fact that they’re now swivelling and entertaining these deals has got to be an indication as to how Meghan herself feels their original plan has fared and its future.

Howsimplywonderful · 18/06/2023 13:48

Audrey Hepburn had a wonderful collaboration with Givenchy and she did wonderful work with unicef.

I can’t imagine the same for Meghan.

StrawberryWasp · 18/06/2023 13:52

If she does get a great Dior deal and sets on a successful path as a fashion influencer... what's Harry going to do??

Presuming they stay together, being a bloke with no job and a super successful wife sounds like a road to poor mental health.

Howsimplywonderful · 18/06/2023 13:54

@StrawberryWasp

He has a dior deal already

He has a dior deal already

He may get a few freebies for his rare public appearances but I doubt he has any sort of lucrative 'deal' with Dior.

BastetsWhiskers · 18/06/2023 13:58

@StrawberryWasp Harry might like being a house husband. He doesn't seem jealous of her.

Honestly whatever I think of her personally I quite liked the Tig. As PP have pointed out casual, light and fluffy suits her.
Maybe she should stop trying to be something - or someone, that she isn't.

Even Kim Kardashian managed to pass the baby bar, never mind that it took her 3 failed attempts. Emma Watson has a long track record of speaking out for women's rights, UN goodwill ambassador.

She can still make a name for herself, it just won't buy the billionaire lifestyle.

As PP have pointed out being 'rich' and a billionaire are poles apart. Several houses fully staffed 24/7, private plane etc are a different sphere of wealth. Far away from just having 'paid off the mortgage and no money worries' level of us plebs.

WasabiWinner · 18/06/2023 14:00

A quick Google showed that the most popular lifestyle influencers, for example top out at a net worth of 20 million.

That's really not a lot

AutumnCrow · 18/06/2023 14:03

If I were Meghan's PR, and I were sitting around this afternoon with a couple of trusted colleagues to thrash out what we're going to do with her, eventually someone would say,

Do you know what the problem is? She's actually quite boring.

This has been said of Hillary Clinton as well - that Trump's 2016 campaign was like a blockbuster movie for the short-attention-span US audience, and Hillary's was a PBS documentary series on politics.

Meghan needs to be interesting. And yes, women do have a far higher bar than men. But some of that guff that Meghan spouts, the word salad of her strangely compartmentalised ambitions, that needs to go.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/06/2023 14:05

As ever, maybe it's worthwhile waiting to see if it happens rather than paying too much attention to PR fluff?

Not sure where the "wise to distance herself" comments have come from though - if Meghan herself has okayed comments like that it seems a bit odd

violetscarlet · 18/06/2023 14:07

If MM is signed by Dior I shall stop shopping there...Smile

BastetsWhiskers · 18/06/2023 14:09

@WasabiWinner yes she comes across well in a more light, entertainment medium
