What I found most interesting about that article is the way that Harry and Meghan were separated into two entities who are on entirely different trajectories - her on the up and looking forward with deals galore on the table, and him on the down, still obsessed with his previous royal misery.

Someone up-thread said Meghan hasn't supported Harry in recent weeks, but it's been months. The only times I can remember seeing them together this year is: 1) the kiss cam thing where she gave him the brush-off and 2) her award in NYC, which resulted in the 'near catastrophic car chase' debacle and turned into an absolute farce. All the publicity for his book - she was nowhere to be seen, the coronation - she was a no-show, his London court case(s) - again, no Meghan. In EasterEnders parlance 'Woss goin' on?'

IcedPurple · 18/06/2023 11:46

You really think she's massively famous in say, Japan or China? What is the basis for that fame? What does she mean to the young Asian women who are a major target of prestige fashion brands?

As for 'absolutely stunning', that's subjective. I think she's very pretty but not 'absolutely stunning.' Even if she was, California is full of gorgeous women. Being 'absolutely stunning' isn't enough to score a lucrative contract with a top fashion house.

Exactly.

GobbolinoCat · 18/06/2023 11:48

@Coconutsandpalmtrees i think many more would buy because of the sheer vitriol she's had to contend with over the years.

GobbolinoCat · 18/06/2023 11:49

Most beautifull. California women don't have Megan's provenance.

Duchess dior.. A real one

So basically you're saying that the only reason she may be of interest to Dior is because of the British royal family?

And what use is it being a duchess when you are never seen at duchessy events?

I don't think that is the case. I believe many people will stop buying from but each to their own. Frankly, I am a big believer in the saying there is no smoke without fire. The vitriol she has faced is for a reason. Screaming at staff and tea throwing to name a couple. She has dropped many people when they are no longer useful to her which says a lot about her character.

Do people buy designer gowns because they feel sorry for the model? That's really very kind of them....

Flustercuckoo · 18/06/2023 11:55

who do they have, her mother, a few celeb friends, they are quite isolated socially

And who do they have to blame for that? No one but themselves.

I wouldn't want to be friends with them knowing that all interactions are probably being recorded and could be publicised at any time.

They deserve all they get imo.

Howsimplywonderful · 18/06/2023 11:57

The timing is strange, surely if they were signing her up, she would have been unveiled at Cannes a few weeks ago. I’m sure Dior and the amazing Ari could have swung her a spot on the judging panel for exposure

LegendsBeyond · 18/06/2023 11:57

She looks terrible in a lot of her clothes, so this seems unlikely. Any brand using MM would me right off. I don’t know anyone who likes her. She’s a joke.

TrashyPanda · 18/06/2023 11:58

@unbelieveable22 Yes, I have started threads on here.

several are continuation threads.

it is a MN topic so iam unsure if you think there is a problem here.

what exactly is your point by mentioning me?

I am aware that other posters regularly start threads on things that interest them, eg on Telly Addicts. Are you going to name them too?

DuchessOfPort · 18/06/2023 11:59

I always think Meghan looks great in casual wear over formalwear, but if she did wear Dior as a proper representative perhaps they would tailor their clothes to fit her.

I assumed that she borrowed the ones before, despite royal protocol insisting you pay people for their goods, so couldn’t have them altered like PoW who does pay for things and thus doesn’t have to send them back.

I also assume that she courts Dior for, among other reasons, the Diana connection, if she is trying reinvent herself as Diana Mark 2 (wince).

Freefall212 · 18/06/2023 12:02

PilatesHippo · 18/06/2023 11:35

Wow, I was hoping to read about MM and Dior and it seems to be a thread about bullying?

I think she would look wonderful in the clothes. She is very beautiful, instantly recognisable and a different from the Monaco royal family member (also very beautiful but more traditional, as in blond and skinny).

I think MM in the past has worn some clothes which may not have fitted perfectly, but surely that would be fixed if she became a brand ambassador? She doesn’t have an hourglass figure and she isn’t extremely thin - like so many women - but if a high end brand cannot make their clothes look good on one of the most beautiful women in the world, I think they should hire a new design team.

@Hohohogreenjennie do you have a link to the Tig archive at all, I would love to read it.

Meghan looks very thin in the recent pap pics. I don't know if it is intentional or unintentional but she has gotten very thin.

TheSnowyOwl · 18/06/2023 12:02

I have no doubt that the release of this speculation is strategically positive PR by Meghan’s team. It could be to try to push Dior or it could be change the headlines from being a “fucking grifter”.

HundredMilesAnHour · 18/06/2023 12:03

I just took the article as a clear indication that MM is distancing herself from Harry and that (unless public opinion changes) she will continue to distance herself until Harry is out in the cold and a separation / divorce is announced. She has the Duchess title now, and he is no longer of value.

It was clearly to replace yesterday's headlines. Her new PR firm knows what they are doing. They were ready with a positive story that separates her from Harry and is about her own possible success as soon as the grifter story came out. And it worked. She was the top headline with positive pictures and a positive piece today. The grifter story sunk quickly.

BastetsWhiskers · 18/06/2023 12:08

Oh I dunno.

I do think it was a surprise to Meghan that she wasn't universally venerated as a fairytale princess and both H&M are acutely aware that interest in them is because of RF and not innate ability and dislike this. But what do I know? It's only an impression.

I hope they can generate the cash for the lifestyle they want, Dior or no Dior.

PilatesHippo · 18/06/2023 12:09

@Freefall212 i haven’t seen that many recent photos (haven’t looked either to be honest). I meant more thin in a typical model way I.e. thighs not touching, boy-Ish hips, very tall, whereas Meghan is more “woman” if that makes sense?

I hope she is ok if she is very thin now - and personally I think she looked beautiful in older pictures so not sure if she needed to be thinner.

maranella · 18/06/2023 12:11

On the contrary, I think if they realised that, they'd never have left the RF, because they'd have understood that their value is intrinsically linked to being members of it.

Speaking of being obsessive compulsive, you seem strangely obsessed with how many posts me and other posters here have made on Harry and Meghan. What’s it to you? Does it affect you badly if people criticise Meghan and Harry? Why do you care so much what i do or what other posters do? And seriously, going to all that trouble of counting threads about the Sussexes and how many posters have created them? Like, why? Lol. And please, Harry has definitely not been silent. How long ago was the documentary, the book, and the legal cases?

I hope she is okay as well. It could be stress / her health or it could be intentional. I don't know.

This tabloid has a few recent pics. https://nypost.com/2023/06/18/meghan-markle-appears-downcast-in-first-sighting-since-spotify-split/

Meghan Markle appears downcast in first sighting since Spotify split

The grim-looking royal opted for no make-up and casual dress, pairing ballet flats, black skinny jeans and striped jumper with a $5,400 Fendi bag.

If she lands the Dior deal, good for her.

But to my knowledge Dior still use animal fur and leather in their products, and there sustainability rating isn’t great either. Would she be willing to put all that aside when she has been quite vocal about sustainability in the past?

Also, and this is just my opinion, but Dior doesn’t seem to suit her personality/brand/style and vice versa. She comes across as very girl next door/relaxed/casual California vibes (IYGWIM) whereas Dior is very classic, overly feminine and romantic. I’m looking at Natalie Portman’s Dior photos and I just can’t imagine that look suiting Meghan.

I do think her future lies in brand deals and influencing. I’ve gone through The Tig archive and found some really great posts and product/recipe recommendations. But I can’t quite figure out what brand would suit her (both style, personality and ethics wise).

I remember the first time she was seen publicly with H in Canada, she looked effortlessly glamorous in a pair of jeans and a white shirt. However I see her in those dior outfits and she doesn’t look right. I’m not really convinced about the Dior thing. She’s very famous but she doesn’t attend the red carpet events where she could show off Dior outfits. The only thing which makes me feel there’s a grain of truth is that H wore a (wrinkled) Dior suit to the coronation and Dior then put out a tweet.

Howsimplywonderful · 18/06/2023 12:18

@Freefall212

A large number of Hollywood actresses are taking the new wonder weightloss drugs (ozempic) so it’s more likely that.

BastetsWhiskers · 18/06/2023 12:18

@maranella I think it was an impulsive move and under the assumption they could have half in half out, which Queen put a hoof on.

They must sort of realise the interest in them is because of RF though?

Howsimplywonderful · 18/06/2023 12:19

Dior is run by Delphine Armault so trying to strong arm her into an announcement could backfire.
