I fear the press, or people here will not stop hounding them until history repeat itself and one of them dies. It is inhumane the way they are being treated. MM hasn't made any statements or interviews for months and months and months. Yet she is in the papers, daily, in the most degrading way possible. This will end in tragedy.

Hohohogreenjennie · 18/06/2023 10:45

If she lands the Dior deal, good for her.

But to my knowledge Dior still use animal fur and leather in their products, and there sustainability rating isn’t great either. Would she be willing to put all that aside when she has been quite vocal about sustainability in the past?

Also, and this is just my opinion, but Dior doesn’t seem to suit her personality/brand/style and vice versa. She comes across as very girl next door/relaxed/casual California vibes (IYGWIM) whereas Dior is very classic, overly feminine and romantic. I’m looking at Natalie Portman’s Dior photos and I just can’t imagine that look suiting Meghan.

I do think her future lies in brand deals and influencing. I’ve gone through The Tig archive and found some really great posts and product/recipe recommendations. But I can’t quite figure out what brand would suit her (both style, personality and ethics wise).

EdithWeston · 18/06/2023 10:48

It's odd because Dior is dressing Harry already, yet the thrust of the article is that she needs to distance herself from him and toxicity.

She looks way better when she is dressing casually - I can think of several brands that would be a much better (and stylish) for her.

She absolutely has the name recognition to do Dior and she is a beautiful woman - although Dior doesn't even really care about model looks if you look at their range of global ambassadors. And they like controversy. See Depp or Angelababy.

They like controversy only if it would generate them money. Apparently the Dior perfume that Johnny Depp is an ambassador of skyrocketed in sales when he was going through his legal court case. And Angelababy (who no longer represents them), is one of the most high profile women in China with widespread social media popularity. Meghan definitely has her fans, but I don’t think there’s enough of them to generate huge amounts of sales. And again, why would Dior choose to hire her now, when her popularity is declining versus a few years ago when she (and Harry) were highly sought after by the likes of Netflix and Spotify. Like I doubt that Meghan wasn’t open to their offer back then instead of now.

I can see her in an ad campaign wearing Maria grazia chiuri for Dior’s “we should all be feminist” tees, they were so popular a few years back , still are I think,
or maybe an Ad for Lady Dior bags, who knows !

but that’s not how fashion houses PR work, and whoever this person Ari Emanuel is , he knows very little about major fashion groups like LVMH, his wife owns the midrange brand staud , so under normal circumstances Dior won’t even consider his pitch .

The “near catastrophe” was a statement put out by the Sussexes spokesperson.

MrsFinkelstein · 18/06/2023 11:01

Meghan is beautiful and has amazing skin. Maybe it would be more linked to Dior makeup and skincare?

Personally, I don't think she's suited the Dior fashion she's worn (IMO), I agree with PP that Californian relaxed fashion is more flattering to her.

She does like Dior handbags, so that would work too.

PPs are right - they do have to make money. So far how they've done it is to take pot shots at his family. That's what I don't agree with. I do hope they are moving on.

TrashyPanda · 18/06/2023 11:03

And their Netflix show went out in December. Which is fairly recent All six episodes of it. So nearly six hours worth of stuff

Howsimplywonderful · 18/06/2023 11:03

A brand like Ralph Lauren might be better (do they still sell safari )

maranella · 18/06/2023 11:03

I read that article this morning in DM and thought 'Ah, so this is what Meghan is paying WME for - a positive puff piece to counter all the negative articles that appeared yesterday'. All fairly predictable. I had to laugh though at this line

"If Meghan does sign with Dior, she could easily match or even eclipse Johnny Depp's recent £15 million, three-year deal to remain the face of its men's fragrance Sauvage", which suggests that Meghan is a bigger star than Johnny Depp! I realise he's had some big problems recently, but he's been A-list since the 1980s.

skullbabe · 18/06/2023 11:05

🤣

maranella · 18/06/2023 11:06

The other thing I thought was that this kind of attempt to 'bounce' a major player into doing what they want is classic Meghan/camp Sussex. It reeks of what they tried to do to the Queen in Jan 2020, but making an announcement about their next move before they'd even got an agreement in place.

So is this Meghan and her camp trying to bounce Dior into confirming that, indeed, she will be the new face of Dior's whatever fragrance or a brand ambassador for them?

Agree. Vegan bags or a values-focused campaign.

Anyone saying that she has a future in promoting their skincare products probably doesn't understand the requirements.

Omg can you please stop being so dramatic? Kim Kardashian, Amber Heard, Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Paris Hilton, Meghan Thee Stallion, Kanye West, Will Smith, Serena Williams, Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Meghan Fox, even Charles, Camilla, William and Kate and plenty of more celebrities, have all faced criticism from the press and from people in social media and yet I don’t hear this kind of dramatic talk about the inhumanity of it all or being hounded until one of them dies. This is like the catastrophic car crash all over again. No, criticising the Sussexes isn’t inhumane, it’s not history repeating itself, and the Sussexes were the ones who first spewed vitriol against the royal family without being challenged except for a mild “memories may vary” comment. Were you as this concerned about the attacks that the Sussexes were hurling during the Oprah interview at william, kate, and Charles, during the time that prince Phillip was dying? Did you worry about history repeating itself and the ‘inhumane’ treatment of Kate and William when Harry slammed them in his book and dragged William’s kids into his publicity tour?

I listed the sources for today's MailOnline story upthread ^^

At least one of them works for Meghan.

I also believe that Harry and/or Meghan supplied the New York 'car chase' story themselves, as pp notes.

If being the operative word.

Has Meghan ever had a “fan base” that came anywhere near Johnny Depps? He’s been acting for nearly 40 years!!!

if wishes were horses, beggars would ride

Because the DM are well known to print puff pieces about the Sussexes.

I was REALLY surprised to see this article as the leader today, after an article disparaging them was the leader yesterday. But the whole thing was clearly written by their PR people, all the guff about how wonderful and wise and clever and strategic Ari Emanuel is and how he can make a success out of anyone/anything. It was very strange.

MamoruHisaishi · 18/06/2023 11:16

I think if Meghan wasn’t so conscious of social class and status, she could build a billion dollar brand by doing what Jessica Simpson did, creating a fashion line that caters to the average middle class woman instead of seeking out the French high fashion brands. Like, she should utilise her strengths, like chic simple casual wear because she looks amazing in them, instead of trying to be an ultra glam princess.

skullbabe · 18/06/2023 11:17

That's why I assume it has a counter-balance crash-and-burn story lined up. It could have been sitting on a lot of this stuff for ages, and has published it today because it also knows that it has a 'Duchess Dior Dreams Dashed' story ready to go.

Even if it was always going to be handbags, the Mail can spin it as 'No Glamour Gowns for Duchess! A Source Reveals Handbag Deal Only Shame'.

You know how it works.

This is definitely a puff piece, it’s all very complimentary of Meghan, with lots of talk about her potential to earn millions. This actually sounds like damage control from her pr team to show that she does actually have something big coming up to distract from the embarrassing Spotify debacle.

No it’s not okay for someone to call me a bully because I dare criticise the Sussexes, in a thread I created where I’m just discussing a recent article that is actually positive towards Meghan. Stop attacking me okay? That’s all I kindly ask. Don’t attack me for posting my thoughts on a couple because you don’t agree with what my views are.

sorry where did I attack you? I was just pointing out that you can't police the views of posters who post on a thread you start.
