He really should have explained the reality of the U.K. royal family, it's not like Disney or what Americans see on tv.
Sure there are palaces, but a lot are fairly rundown ( not all!) .

He could do what William did and join air/sea rescue or whatever the US equivalent is. Or the flying ambulance etc.

She’ll have done her research, she wasn’t naive. You’d look very carefully pre commitment as you would a movie role, so unless H was dishonest, she knew it wasn’t Disneyland.

IMO what she may have miscalculated is how much sway & influence she had. Charles, especially, seemed to be very swayed & impressed so maybe in time, they really could have made ‘it’ their own. Things all felt rushed somehow…

Not sure about that @Peverellshire , it seems even Harry didn't quite get the limitations of his role! .
Also according to Meghan herself she never researched the rf or Harry and had no idea how to even curtsy !

I don't know @Peverellshire , however I doubt it , he's been given whatever he wanted his whole life, he's never had to work hard for anything, he just turns up and being himself is his job!

Nobody “needs” $X million a year to live on.

they might want to spend that much dosh, but if they don’t have it, then they have to accept that.

one charitable foundation I really admire is the Newmans Own Foundation, which gives 100% of its profits to charity.

Thing is I can understand that to a degree, but many warm, eventually, to authenticity.

The thing is how difficult it must be to compartmentalise the private ‘you’ from the public life of service? You need lots of time to adjust.

They could have kept their uk base at frogmore, kept the 34 million or so he inherited and gone to Africa to do conservation work, with MM doing work with girls charities. Come back when needed to do whatever duties were required. Instead their egos took them to California and an attempt to build a billion dollar brand.

I can just imagine H&M going the queen and telling her their half in half out plan and her replying ‘I love you but you are not serious people’

Exactly this is what I imagined they had in mind when they first said they were leaving.

And I thought, oh great for them, they'll be able to live a really fulfilling life.

But no they just wanted to be rich celebs in the US.

What I really don't understand is how can they be philanthropists if they can't even cover their own costs?

The idea of Meghan championing women's causes is exactly what she could have done from within the royal family.
Again this is what I presumed she'd do.

He could have flown around in helicopters counting elephants and she could have got to understand and know the issues of local women.

What I think they could do, successfully, is ….

Meghan becomes a Martha Stewart / Gwyneth style ‘lifestyle’ blogger / podcaster / ‘grammer, with a side order of women’s issues which she can use her platforms to publicise.

Harry can do conservation work in Africa for 3m a year and concentrate on supporting that and Invictus. I could see a couple of documentaries coming out of it As with the ‘hacking’ litigation, lending his name to these struggles could massively increase their visibility, and perhaps donations.

I always thought this. If they'd been smart they could have had it all. Their charities, their lifestyles and the backing of the RF. Probably not enough attention for MM though, so they blew it.

I think their options have massively narrowed, but the revival of The Tig/similar lifestyle blog now appears to be a sure thing. Apparently, people with the reach of Meghan can get $200,000 just for mentioning a product, so I'm guessing that's what she'll do in future. I'm not sure that the success of Goop will be easy to emulate, but I bet that's what she'll try to do. She's paying for A-list advice (WME represents some big stars), so presumably they'll give her decent advice.

i think she’d rather be Oprah, but being Oprah is hard, she just makes it look easy. You need to be curious about other people, and Meghan seems rather self obsessed.

Meghans blog was pretty successful, wasn’t it? So she is clearly good on SM. Using her skills and profile to highlight women’s issues would be a good thing.

I love the idea of Harry helicoptering around, working with animals in Africa

I hate to say this , but I think she's too self absorbed and shallow to really do anything for women's rights, a blog like the one she had would be better.
