Is that what you think his life has been like? I see his life v differently. I see a deeply traumatised man who has grown up in neglect and dysfunction.

do You see William as deeply traumatised too?

It’s all of it though isn’t it?

Trauma, neglect, dysfunction has left him hobbled so that he is emotionally regressed and stuck, disproportionately acting out and falling out - so the cycle continues.

Have any of you read any coverage, about the trial, or the evidence, or indeed the case that is not presented by the tabloids?

Yes

Iwantcakeeveryday · 10/06/2023 15:49

Not knowing him I couldn't say how "dim" Harry is, though he certainly works hard at giving that impression - hence perhaps the repeated "you'd have to ask the journalists" about something I thought he was supposed to be able to prove himself

Well if it is private voicemails, and its his phone, either the person leaving the voicemail told them the private conversation or they listened to it. You would have to ask the journalists which of those two it is. Harry believes it is hacking, this is what the tabloids involved have paid out so much to others for including his brother, and have admitted one instance of UIG on him, and his statement talks about disappearing voicemails and messages read before he got to them. I think its perfectly reasonable for him to say, ask the journalist. They have asked one, she can;t remember or doesn't;t know anything apparently. I find it hard to believe they hacked all these other people, his parents and brother, but did not do the same to him. That combined with missing messages and deleted voicemails and large payments to PI's claiming to be for easily and freely obtained information ( an intern could do that job ) and I am finding it a convincing claim.

Yes. I don't read tabloids at all.

Peverellshire · 10/06/2023 15:51

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/06/2023 15:37

Can he really be so dim as to have imagined that court would provide the evidence he needed? And that the journalists he's accusing would give answers to questions he couldn't account for himself?

Not knowing him I couldn't say how "dim" Harry is, though he certainly works hard at giving that impression - hence perhaps the repeated "you'd have to ask the journalists" about something I thought he was supposed to be able to prove himself

I'm still trying to get my head around that, because to this layperson at least it makes no sense at all

And yes, in the absence of any apparent proof about the alleged car tracker, I have to wonder if this is another version of the "near catastrophic car chase"

Why didn’t he discuss ‘strategy’ with M? I wonder if she agrees with his approach?

Maireas · 10/06/2023 15:52

Maybe his phone was hacked. Some of these tabloids (especially the NotW) used these kinds of tactics. Maybe those accusations of the palace briefings, Camilla, William his et al telling negative stories about him are all wrong. Maybe it's all from hacking.

jeffgoldblum · 10/06/2023 15:52

Harry can believe what he wants , what he can't do is expect others to believe him without a shred of hard evidence, at the moment everything is His truth, I've yet to see the actual truth or evidence.

TrashyPanda · 10/06/2023 15:52

How convincing did you find hos oft-repeated “I don’t recall”? @Iwantcakeeveryday

I think that's the point.
He's not exactly been a reliable narrator thus far.

jeffgoldblum · 10/06/2023 15:53

Probably very convincing @TrashyPanda !

Just because you are intimately acquainted with tabloids, please don’t assume we are

So people who challenge Harry only do so because they are "daily fail" readers? Perhaps they are just critical thinkers.

Exactly. If in doubt, accuse the person you don't agree with of being a right-wing bigot. Where have I seen that before ...?

Gracewithoutend · 10/06/2023 15:54

Lndnmummy · 10/06/2023 15:32

People do. Not on mumsnet, clearly, but otherwise many do. Especially in the US and outside the UK. Many many people in the UK believe him too, unless they are daily fail readers.

I can't speak for the whole of the world like you can, or indeed for most of the UK, but I can say that on the first of these threads, we followed the reporting of the guardian and the bbc. Are they sufficiently non tabloid enough?

TrashyPanda · 10/06/2023 15:55

@jeffgoldblum - every time I heard that I thought of the US - “I refuse to answer that question on grounds that I may incriminate myself”!!

GloriousD · 10/06/2023 15:55

*“There is no doubt that Harry’s life is thoroughly unenviable. And his feelings are definitely real, maybe even his motivations are pure. But he is a terribly inconsistent person too.

The question, when it comes to Harry, is always the same. Is he a hypocrite, or a terribly damaged young man? Is he a sensitive lamb or a spoiled brat? Self-absorbed or genuinely concerned? To which there can only be one answer: he’s all of them.”*

I think the conclusion from The Irish Times (International / non tabloid) article posted above is spot on.

Maireas · 10/06/2023 15:56

Dear lord, @maranella , you're right. If I see that "daily fail" accusation again, I'll scream. It's so ludicrous and naive. Such a tired old trope.

jeffgoldblum · 10/06/2023 15:56

I've never read any tabloids , the first I've seen was from links on here , I don't believe any gossip unless there is proof, my opinion of Harry is based on his own words and actions, they are damning enough on there own!

Maireas · 10/06/2023 15:57

Quite. The Oprah interview, Spare, the Tom Bradby interview.. that's enough really...

jeffgoldblum · 10/06/2023 15:57

But where is the evidence that the Mirror settled with Prince William? Has the Mail or Prince William confirmed that? Has proof been presented that Diana and Charles were hacked by the Mirror or any newspaper?

TrashyPanda · 10/06/2023 16:01

@Gracewithoutend - it’s speculation presented as fact

Reading something is not the same as comprehending it. It doesn't stop you from recommending it though!

Peverellshire · 10/06/2023 16:02

Has it become more difficult to 'hack' re: new iPhone tech?

Maireas · 10/06/2023 16:04

I think so, @Peverellshire because I think they were accessing the old voicemail technology, not information from smartphones
.
