I think I’m one of the only people that likes Meghan but not Harry… it’s just me & Camilla

Empty vessels make the most noise

its a well-known saying.

nothing more

I guess the risk is that they sink into Kardashian territory to make money.

I'm not sure I believe that they will now shut up…Harry certainly hinted at book 2 as there was so much content cut from book 1.

if they want to rebrand Harry needs to drop his legal cases and they should go quiet for several years working discreetly on projects that interest them. Then they could start to rebuild away from their current image. But Harry would need to get over the past and move on. No sign of that. And MM would need to have something to say other than the most recent vacuous crap being dished out as life affirming advice etc etc

Didn’t Harry say, way back, that he wanted Charles to fund his lifestyle (including his mansion purchase) because he wanted to pass his own money to Archie (this was before Lilibet)

ot stunned me at the time, so I hope I’ve remembered correctly.

Do you think 6-8 million PA running & living expenses a good ballpark. Wasn’t there talk of upgrading mansion? Kevin Costner’s might be available soon!

So they need a big, lump sum they can invest, say 50-60 million? And then an annual 10 mil will keep them ticking over in comparative rudimentary fashion, in the ‘starter mansion’ on hill…?

TrashyPanda · 16/06/2023 10:51

Kardashian territory…

hmm, didn’t their fame all start with Kim’s sex tape?

there was that unfortunate “naked pool” incident Harry got into in Vegas. I wonder how Kris Jenner could spin that, cos she has done the most amazing job of making her whole family multi millionaires.

she could solve all future money worries.

all it needs is for Harry and Meghan to move to Calabasas, and get Kris to stage the next birthday party for one of the Sussex family, which just happens to get shown in their show - and bingo! They are new BFs with the Kardashian Klan and fame and fortune follows.

Your figures look ok to me @Peverellshire , maybe a bit conservative if anything, I'm no expert on the lifestyle of the super rich and famous but I do know the celebrities they wish to mingle with are multi billionaires, millionaire just isn't what it used to be! 🤣

She just not that interesting. Her solo ventures haven’t fared as well as Harry’s.

She doesn't have as many royal stories to tell. It turns out the RF did the right thing by not being too sociable with her. 😄

I can just imagine the conversations when she was around

”Did you hear the latest episode of The Archers?”

”Oh yes, terribly good. I do love the village fair in Ambridge”

”Of course, it hasn’t been the same since Phil died”

cue the whole family humming the theme tune.

Me neither, but you’re prob right. If you want to be the ‘big fish’ they haven’t got dosh for the ‘wish list’ upthread. If it’s true love, what does that matter?

Gracewithoutend · 16/06/2023 10:59

@TrashyPanda Hehe. Yes, exactly. Sshhh, she's coming.

Highandlows · 16/06/2023 11:01

What matters is what M did after suits. They both have made a real mess it seems. I thought people in the US liked them but the few people who were supportive at first seem to have taken distance. Anyway, good promising deals are being cancelled. Podcasts should reflect if people are interested in what M have to say or not. The latest NY incident with the chased story must have affected them even more after things like the Southpark episode. I really thing they are done. We will see if they stay together or not.

jeffgoldblum · 16/06/2023 11:02

Maybe she can publish her diaries she found so conveniently?

With certain baby photos?

jeffgoldblum · 16/06/2023 11:08

Maybe @Gracewithoutend 😉

Wheresthebeach · 16/06/2023 11:14

Oh yeah the diaries…I’d forgotten about those. I guess it depends if she thinks painting Kate as a cold, distant and cruel woman will sell and garner more sympathy for her. Unlike Harry I suspect MM can tell the way the wind is blowing though.

CathyorClaire · 16/06/2023 11:16

I wonder, though, if Spotify had to pay them off in some way to break the contract or if there was a clause that allowed them to do that.

It's all quite reminiscent of the way Netflix ditched 'Pearl' a while back.

I think we should be told the ins and outs of the failures piling up. It's so annoying having to speculate 😀

Vermin · 16/06/2023 11:35

Spotify won’t have had to pay them off. The way those deals are typically made is in an option basis. The amount they’re received may be as little as half the $20m first series figure , with the potential full amount being paid in instalments on attainment of various targets, which we are told they failed to meet. No disgrace, the deals that Dawn Ostroff did at Spotify did mostly (exc joe rogan) fail to meet their targets (the Michelle Obama podcast wasn’t a roaring success either).
the initial payment will also have included all production costs to make the series - so hiring the archewell audio team (who I guess will mostly be made redundant now), researchers, the tech and fees to guests.
man other amounts would only be paid (again, in instalments) if further series were commissioned at Spotify’s election.
the splashy announcement of the £100m deal when it was done was on the basis of the full contract being seen out (ie all options exercised) and all targets reached. It has always been this - announcements about eg Charlotte Church’s £1m recording deal when she was a kid or BGT/ XFactor winner contracts being £1m is only ever in the basis that all possible albums are released at the maximum possible price. In reality they got very little personal cash.

TrashyPanda · 16/06/2023 11:35

They had changed publicists before the disastrous “own goal” in NY, hadn’t they?

who ever thought that press release/statement/badly over-egged piece of non news was a good idea?

OP posts:
TrashyPanda · 16/06/2023 11:37

Was the deal with Meghan or with Archewell?

presumably the first would be personal income, but the s3cond would go directly to the charitable foundation?

OP posts:
Vermin · 16/06/2023 11:39

Archewell Audio is a commercial entity separate from the confusingly similarly named foundation. The Spotify deal would presumably have been in the company name for tax and liability reasons, with haz and megz both as employees on salary and shareholders

Wheresthebeach · 16/06/2023 11:41

I think the weird car chase announcement did them a huge amount of damage. They come across as wanting to create drama, everything is exaggerated.

Is there any chance it was a genuine concern & misconstrued?

jeffgoldblum · 16/06/2023 11:52

Sadly no @Peverellshire .

Oh, that is incredibly confusing. I didn’t know that.

i wonder why the commercial enterprise was given such a similar name?

No chance at all, @Peverellshire

there were no reports about any car chase in the middle of NYC.
far less any social media sightings of one involving 2 very recognisable figures who were publicised to be in NYC that evening.

all was silent until the announcement of a “near catastrophe” which was swiftly proven not to be true.
