@StarbucksSmarterSister You might be able to still see its title but have you tried to open it?

Maireas · 10/06/2023 14:29

I think, @TripleDaisySummer , it's a few things. His mother, her death, his feelings about his family, his relationship with his father and brother, his feelings about the tabloid press, his belief about the treatment of his wife. I think it's got a bit bound up together.

Elior · 10/06/2023 14:31

They need to be seen to be heroically championing something even if their efforts and achievements fall short due to lack of genuine effort and connection to the issues.

I didn’t just mean this case, I mean Harry coverage in general. His statement about a near catastrophic crash made headlines and quickly left. Compare it to just a few years ago when it felt you couldn’t get away from articles about him. I appreciate we are discussing him on here but I’m stuck in a hospital waiting room with little to do, but otherwise I think interest in him in general has really waned. Even those who at one stage seemed to have a lot of love or hatred for him just seem to be rolling their eyes and moving on from bothering to even support or bicker about him now.

I think interest in the pair is waning.

1, because of overexposure (aka they don't know when to shut up)
2, because without their victimhood and constant slagging off the royal family, they've very little left to commend them?

So we'll see if they do what they said they would and focus on their philanthropic causes.

Yes. Maybe I'm talking about a different thread to the rest of you?

I have to say that Harry isn't helping anything at all with this case. All the other claimants cases have been made more difficult. It seemed so much based on his relationship with Chelsy Davy, but it it was meant to stop people hating Meghan. It just makes no sense.

My Dad met Prince William on Thursday at the new Oak Cancer centre at the Royal Marsden. My Dad is a volunteer, he's not being treated.

William took over the patronage of the Trust from his late mother. My Dad (definitely not a Royalist, neither am I) was impressed. Totally brilliant visit, warm, kind, relaxed, knew many long term volunteers by name, put people at ease. Huge hit and it really did mean a lot to everyone there.

This is how you continue a legacy.

Elior · 10/06/2023 14:33

It's like if they publicly identified themselves as world class musicians because they hang out with his mum's friend, Elton, (but fail to mention that they only play the air guitar).

FloofCloud · 10/06/2023 14:34

Maybe I didn't get the point on one of the angles that came
Out ... the one about him going to a strip club and it causing Chelsy damage ... surely him going to the strip club is the damage to the relationship, not the fact he was outed by the press?!

I can open both. One is full. The other one ( which I meant) is not.

Maireas · 10/06/2023 14:36

That's an interesting article, thank you, @Howsimplywonderful .

jeffgoldblum · 10/06/2023 14:36

Strange @StarbucksSmarterSister , I can't see it at all ! , and it went poof while I was trying to post and it wouldn't let me .

Gracewithoutend · 10/06/2023 14:45

but I wasn't in the room and some who were thought he did well or at least told bits of media this.

Would that be David Sherborne? 😉

polkadotdalmation · 10/06/2023 14:52

@Novella4 You make some very odd assumptions there and present them as fact. As they say 'lies that go unchallenged become the truth'.

So Angela levin (Harry's biographer, royal correspondent and close to the RF at the time) says he donated the money to charity.

Your negatively emotive language calling williams settlement 'hush' money, is noted. For clarity William settled out of court as do most litigants. It's actually encouraged by courts. He took the decision rather than expose himself and kate (who was hacked over 500 times) to having their private conversations made public.

William keeping 'his mouth shut' to be king? Where is the evidence to support that? The RF do not 'keep the press on side' they work with them knowing they need to take a pragmatic approach. If there is wrongdoing, shady deals or whatever kept hidden, then please tell us what they are likely to be? Is that just another attempt to throw shade?

TrashyPanda · 10/06/2023 14:54

IHRTFT but could some please post the evidence that Wiliam gave his hush money to charity?

I’ve negotiated an out of court settlement - and it was because both sides realised the potential costs, the publicity and the chances of the person winning were such that a settlement was the pragmatic option.

one of the conditions was that nothing more was said by either side.

Also, @Novella4 , why do you use the term "peasants"? It's not very nice..

I think that he is reliving his trauma time and time again in public. Interviews, book, now the court case. And it doesn't seem to be helping him. Interesting to note that Nikki Sanderson has seemingly been able to give much more concrete examples of being hacked in the court case. Could be media bias of course.

I agree, @Motnight and it’s painful to witness.

While the media have treated members of the RF shockingly many times and certainly need to be held accountable for phone hacking, his case is just one of many. I imagine being cross-examined was a huge shock to him, but that’s how the legal system works. The KC wasn’t an Oprah-style interviewer!

I keep hoping that he can move on to some positive work and projects, instead of rehashing the past. I don’t think this is good for him at all.

polkadotdalmation · 10/06/2023 14:57

I've reported but I don't know whether goading is actually in talk guidelines. They can judge 😂

Gracewithoutend · 10/06/2023 14:57

I think he will win his case, maybe just based on one or two if his articles, which will be enough. I think it will cause a lot of members of the public to wonder about the justice system, maybe because we don't fully understand the ins and outs of how the system works, and how little evidence needs to be produced to win cases.

It's reminiscent of the Depp/Heard case. Peoole accepted Depp was totally to blame after the English lawsuit. Pretty much all the US commentators in the media and online were predicting a,win fir,Heard and wondering why Depp was bringing the case. Then people got to see people actually testifying, listened to what was actually said, including tone and inflections, and in the end it was impossible not to wonder how the London judge believed Heard so implicitly.

I did too , for derailment!

Howsimplywonderful · 10/06/2023 14:58

William was the person who exposed the hacking in 2005 (police enquiry over his knee injury) which led to the Levenson enquiry

its unfortunate that his role is now hidden as google now shows Prince Williams settlement rather than his key role due to Harry’s comment jn court.

its very unfortunate, and a very cynical person might say deliberate

polkadotdalmation · 10/06/2023 14:59

@HamBone He said in his statement he was doing this because of all the bad press Meghan got, which isn't a good reason to spend millions on court cases that are quite weak. I honestly think he's one of those litigants who just want their 'day in court'. It's sad, and it will solve nothing whatsoever. Nothing can change the past, either long past or near past. Sad.
