It would be nice if everyone else trying to enter with similar drug experiences would be treated with the same leniency though.

They are. Taking drugs does not always mean you cannot get a visa. Drug convictions do.

Maireas · 15/06/2023 18:16

Yes, it's highly unlikely that his visa would ever be revoked. Think of all those celebrities with bohemian pasts (and presents). It's not going to happen. He can relax. With his spliff.

I would be judging if he pulled the ‘it was all pish’ card though recsw

Some of the accounts would have really hurt people. And he would deserve (as my dear old nan used to say) ‘a het airse’ for upsetting people for shits and giggles.

I meant he could always say if questioned by the authorities that it wasn't on oath so doesn't count, he didn't have to tell the truth. So perhaps that 's what other posters have meant by saying the book doesn't count? That is not on oath so he doesn't have to be truthful?

jeffgoldblum · 15/06/2023 18:21

Don't forget the bin @Maireas , I feel the bin should be included!

Maireas · 15/06/2023 18:23

Oh dear lord that's one of my favourite parts. The bin. Or the many uses for Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream. Or the dog bowl, or.....

jeffgoldblum · 15/06/2023 18:25

Really, if you think about it 🤔 , it's a excellent book ( if you read it as comedy!)

recsw · 15/06/2023 18:29

It was written to entertain people, perhaps we should just see it like that and not try to work out what was 'true' or 'untrue' because that isn't what it was about. It was to entertain.

ArcaneWireless · 15/06/2023 18:29

They are. Taking drugs does not always mean you cannot get a visa.

But that would insinuate that some who have taken drugs may not get a visa. So maybe not everyone else is treated as leniently. I wonder how far the line can be moved.

As long as he told the truth on the visa application I suppose.

Someone got caught out for not being entirely truthful and were seemingly banned for 10 years on the strength of a text I believe. The text suggested they’d used something when they’d answered no in the questions or somesuch.

If someone had lied and got caught out by a text, I wonder if an admission in a magazine, book or tv programme would be the same.

Quite right, we just need to persuade others that it's not proof of anything.

I would love to see it dramatised using the cast and writers of The Windsors!

ArcaneWireless · 15/06/2023 18:32

Fair enough if it was written to entertain.

I would hope most (apart from some despicable people) would chose not to hurt people in the name of entertainment though.

Yes. The classification of "non fiction" was debatable.

Some people don't think about hurting others. Just serving themselves.

Maireas · 15/06/2023 18:35

It would be interesting, in that case, @ArcaneWireless to see what he wrote on the visa application.

ArcaneWireless · 15/06/2023 18:35

It would be interesting Maireas … more so with occasional nips of tequila for every hazy recollection.

It would end up hazy for everyone.

ArcaneWireless · 15/06/2023 18:37

Sorry maireas that was about the Windsors suggestion 🥤

Stalkedbyzombies · 15/06/2023 18:37

The bits he added to entertain are distasteful, not funny at all.
The funny bits are those when he is trying to be insightful and serious.
He is like Bottom from A Midsummer Night's Dream - like a chief-of-idiots comparing himself to great legendary heroes when the serious characters are rolling their eyes.

jeffgoldblum · 15/06/2023 18:37

Indeed!
I think there are passages that cut deeper for different posters from their personal lives, i having Been born with scoliosis, find the treatment and discussion of the matron to be particularly hurtful!

Maireas · 15/06/2023 18:39

You're right, @Stalkedbyzombies , some bits aren't funny at all, such as when he writes about others who did not choose to have their personal life written about.

Gracewithoutend · 15/06/2023 18:46

I get that some people were offended by bits but the dog bowl was the best but only because of what it spawned.

Harry and his truth

jeffgoldblum · 15/06/2023 18:47

@Gracewithoutend , that was epically hilarious 😆 🤣 !

jeffgoldblum · 15/06/2023 18:48

It's the talking bin for me! , I keep picturing ( blast from the past!) dusty bin 🤣🤣

Gracewithoutend · 15/06/2023 18:48

Ignore that first photo. It's not nice. It was meant to be this.

Harry and his truth
Gracewithoutend · 15/06/2023 18:49

My favourite one was William and Camilla laughing. I always wonder what they were really laughing about.

Maireas · 15/06/2023 18:50

😂😂 they're all brilliant... like that newspaper front page..
