@maranella Do you actually think it's fair that H&M got security (1 million per year minimum), funding from his father to live (as W&K are) to live/housing etc, yet to live in Hollywood in a mansion, attend prestigious red carpet events, go on Netflix and Oprah to earn more money (not slagging off the RF though!) and leave William and kate to visit small charities in Reading on a wet November morning?

No, I don't. And I think the RF did the right thing in telling them that if they wanted to be their own bosses and live in California then they were on their own, because only knows what they'd do with their royal titles and the blessing of the Queen from 6,000 miles away.

All I said was that if H&M had left on better terms, then things might've turned out better for both parties. Of course, that was impossible, because H&M tried to steamroller the Queen into doing what they wanted and by setting all kinds of stuff up in secret without anyone's approval.

she isn’t some sort of guru.

she is wife of a second son, who showed his own devotion to duty by ditching a military engagement to go to the Lion King premier with Meghan and tout for business.

All this whipped-up speculation completely misses the main factor that caused Meghan and Harry to leave - the private discussions were leaked, whether by KP or someone else with links, knowledge and a big gob, so their hand was forced.

Nothing has been produced under the Sussex Royal brand so the equally silly speculation over what they might or might not sell in whatever bizarre alternate future posters can imagine is pointless. The professional outrage would be better spent on huffing and puffing at some of the atrocious tat that has actually been licensed and sold under the Duchy brand as an example.

I don't see any reason Meghan shouldn't be able to change things either. The hierarchy in the Windsor family is ridiculous in this day and age, just like the monarchy, and is in desperate need of being shaken up especially after all the catastrophic errors stretching across decades, some of which came close to ending the monarchy, that were made by the last queen but which appear to have been officially forgotten about. The current king is exceptionally foolish and doesn't have the best record either to say the least. Something certainly needs to be done about them.

Meghan “changing things” would be an actual catastrophe

Meghan didn’t bother to turn up for the coronation and it didn’t matter one jot.
if Charles hadn’t turned up - there would be no coronation.

that shows she is not an equal member.

Princess Anne has spent her entire adult life working and is hugely respected. That’s her qualification - over 50 years of experience. Meghan had a couple of years as a working Royal.

I think they clearly threatened the RF that they'd spill everything if they didn't get what they wanted, and were confident this was a winning hand.

The RF did what everyone should do when being blackmailed: they didn't give in to threats.

The result was Oprah, Netflix and Spare all a great big 'we told you we'd do this.'

The thing is once you've played your hand, and your opponent has taken the blows, then what? You have nothing else and you haven't won anything, you've only lost, because you didn't get what you wanted and your power has gone, you used it.

They went all in and lost.

They really thought they were going to cleverly play the fuddy duddy royal family and win, but the RFs strategy of: keep quiet, don't complain, do your duty, gossip is transitory, really has shown it's strength.

But you never insult or disrespect other's views

That's very kind of you, jeffgoldblum; it's what I try to aim for since IMO insults and disrespect help nothing, though I freely admit I sometimes have to sit on my hands!!

And yes, as a republican it's not a case of "being on one side" (horrible phrase Sad), which at least means I can comment on behaviour without bringing partisanship into it ... after all, for every mis-step H&M have made there are plenty to choose from among the RF, and that's despite the excellent PR they can afford
