What next for the Sussexes?

1000 replies

Casuaala · 07/05/2023 14:49

I thought yesterday couldn't have gone better, all things considered; there was the least amount of drama or negative coverage possible regarding the Sussexes.

I'd like to hope that this marks a fresh start. Harry's got all the recriminations off his chest. The Royal Family have maintained a dignified silence and hopefully the future is rosy. The Sussexes can have the life they want in the US, with a small presence in family events back here when appropriate. (I wouldn't be surprised however if Megan never makes it back on UK soil).

It just tells me that Harry did absolutely nothing wrong which is why this is all anyone can come up with. Desperation to find something to criticise!

He wore a suit. How awful. 😂

I worry about what will happen to Harry if Meghan decides to ditch him. It’s not like he could come back here …

I wouldn't lose sleep over it if I were you. 🤣

This is a common theme on MN at the moment. Because there's nothing to criticise posters are imagining them splitting. Unpleasant to speculate on a family with little children breaking up.

I actually like Harry (and Meghan) - I wouldn’t want them to split up - I think Harry has done what most decent men would do and put his wife and children first. But I do worry that he’s burnt bridges with everyone else. It’s not like a normal situation is it - he’s not just lost his family but the whole bloody country hates him. I feel for him and I believe he and his wife have been treated poorly - especially by the British press

Youngatheart00 · 08/05/2023 07:47

I hope they move on in anyway that doesn’t involve continued retrospective mudslinging on the royal family.

If they want to do a tv series, podcast, act, write books, charitable work, ‘brand ambassadors’ or indeed do any damn thing they want to make money they are very welcome in my eyes, but they can’t make a continued career out of continued whinging, surely.

Whaeanui · 08/05/2023 07:51

I don’t think he has whinged more than other royals, the dude that abdicated was a lot worse and the Queen gave him a huge sum every year! He didn’t get an invite to her coronation though, instead he got paid to give his opinion on it. Charles has done interviews, a book. Same for his mother. Meghan has done Oprah and Netflix. I wanted to hear their side and clearly so did a lot of other people.

Sugarfree23 · 08/05/2023 07:58

At one point I thought they'd divorce.
But at moment I think they'll finish their book deal and then struggle to get any publicity so disappear into obscurity.

The RF have made sure there wasn't any real photo opportunities for Harry to trade off his connections, between Ann's hat at the Coronation and a candle at the HMQs funeral. Your not going to convince me that was coincidence.

Hardly!

If that were the case there wouldn't be near one thousand threads on MN since Meghan appeared... plenty of pushback to that view.

Yes, I agree on the press Smile

Charles was whinging irritably outside the Abbey only yesterday! His day costing £250M and he said 'this is boring'.

Charles is a professional whinger if it isn't perfect.

I don't care whether it was or it wasn't. It is totally irrelevant. The cameras were never in that direction anyway, except once for about 3 seconds.

I know posters like to make up stuff, but does it really matter when his attendance there was all irrelevant given what the day was like?

TodayInahurry · 08/05/2023 08:05

The real problem with H&M is that they failed to realise how much $$$$ you need to live as they wish to. Slagging off the RF was a massive mistake. I read he flew private jet from Van Nys (?) airbase to Farnborough which would not have come cheap

Maireas · 08/05/2023 08:06

@Whaeanui , not quite the situation with Edward VIII, it was far more complicated financially because he technically owned Sandringham and Balmoral and the RF had to buy him out. The whole thing makes for very interesting reading though (and I've read a lot about it!).

He flew commercial from his home. That is fact. No private jet.

Maireas · 08/05/2023 08:11

Harry was just a member of the congregation yesterday, which probably suited him fine. I only saw him walk up the aisle (didn't even see the return journey). The focus was rightly on the ceremony and the main players. That's it.

Yup but people will repeat the tabloid lies over and over.

CabernetSauvignon · 08/05/2023 08:15

Another batch of interviews where Harry whinges on about how badly he was treated at the Coronation.

She is wearing a weighted belt and weights around the ankles.

Wow, that's hardcore, good on her !

Looks very like a planned pap walk, security and those with her are staying well clear of her so the photographer can get a good shot.

Hear hear. I wish that was it though.

LooseFit · 08/05/2023 08:31

I thought Harry’s presence was handled brilliantly. He was there, he sat with members of the family, then he left. No drama.

Despite the tabloid frothing, Megan has hung back for months - through the whole Spare launch and for the Coronation - and appears to be just living her life peacefully.

I wish them both well.

With regard to the coronation @Roussette is correct - according to all the reports I’ve seen he flew in/out on commercial.

LAX - LHR on Friday with reportedly American Airlines, then LHR-LAX Saturday afternoon with BA.

LolaSmiles · 08/05/2023 08:33

I think British Airways have also confirmed he flew commercial and that wouldn't comment further.

dig135 · 08/05/2023 08:33

If you follow any of the Hollywood gossip sites, they allege the commercial was smoke and mirrors and he flew on a private jet.

Hotfootgoose · 08/05/2023 08:34

Obscurity…then divorce and more mud slinging

So British Airways are lying. Okayyyy.....

I think we have got to the stage, that anyone (be it an individual or a gossip site) can make up absolutely anything about H&M, and some will believe it.

That's a bit pathetic to be honest

How could they ever live in obscurity when the British gutter press is so obsessed with them?
