What next for the Sussexes?

1000 replies

Casuaala · 07/05/2023 14:49

I thought yesterday couldn't have gone better, all things considered; there was the least amount of drama or negative coverage possible regarding the Sussexes.

I'd like to hope that this marks a fresh start. Harry's got all the recriminations off his chest. The Royal Family have maintained a dignified silence and hopefully the future is rosy. The Sussexes can have the life they want in the US, with a small presence in family events back here when appropriate. (I wouldn't be surprised however if Megan never makes it back on UK soil).

I don’t watch Eurovision, but it’s so nice to see people enjoying themselves

Roussette · 12/05/2023 21:43

Actually no idea what you mean. We posted about something as a side chat. Happens all the time on a discussion forum. Sorry you don't like that, it's the nature of this place.

Not sure what your failings are, I don't 'know' you.

I'm not demanding anything, you seem annoyed the thread was derailed and I said I was happy to discuss as per the thread title, don't worry if you are not interested in the actual thread title.

@Samcro it's too big a thing in our house unfortunately!

CathyorClaire · 12/05/2023 21:46

Those instances were while the Queen was alive. I don't think King Charles is in any hurry to rehabilitate his brother. He wants Royal Lodge back and has made that public, and he sat Andrew alone by a pillar last Saturday, well out of the sight line of the cameras.

The Royal Lodge posturing is currently going nowhere (Andrew has a very sweet 75 year lease very possibly watertight) much like the 'slimmed down monarchy' we've been promised and Andrew is still being let loose on the dressing up box.

He's romping with the sibs (one of whom is very newly decorated) on shooting jollies and pre- coro luxury dinners.

Conniving is as conniving does.

Roussette · 12/05/2023 21:59

Oh yes @CathyorClaire

I said when I heard about him moving out of Royal Lodge to Frogmore Cottage, it ain't happening!

He needs the kudos of a Royal Estate to prop up his ego as a VeryImportantPerson. It's all as it looks. Not as it happens

🤣🤣 Funny how side chat is ok and 'the nature of the place' on certain threads but not on others

😂🤣to you too!

Sorry you don't like Eurovision!

Don't be, it's fine😂

TBH @Roussette I don't post as much as I used to. I don't want to be accused of being racist on here if I am critical of M&H. It's like walking on bloody eggshells.

Very true !

Yes, exactly right - it’s used often

Very true !

This. The playbook is to accuse posters with any (even mildly) critical comment about H&M with:

  • racism
  • jealousy
  • being a 'hater'
  • being a (gullible) DM reader

Followed by 'why aren't you criticising Andrew' (i.e. you tacitly support Andrew)

And my goodness, if there has been a pile on I have been piled on!

I think for some posters it has become an article of faith that the ONLY reason for any criticism of H&M is racism/jealousy etc. And once something is an matter of faith then proof, logic and reason do not apply. It comes down to pure belief. And anyone who then threatens that belief is an enemy, even if they just want to chat about possible different interpretations.

Maybe some of that is true? Not with you necessarily but some posters. I get lumped in with anyone who is not anti H&M. Everything they say supposedly comes from me too!

I don't think jealousy for one minute. You are not an enemy. Nor is anyone else. I don't have enemies.

There are lots of DM readers on here.

'Hater'. That's subjective isn't it? Some of the posts (not saying you neessarily) would lead me to believe that because they are so unpleasant.

And there has been racism on here, like it or not. I've seen posts deleted for that!

Surely you would agree we can't all be lumped together?

Let's not talk about 'pile on's'. I know all about them.

Birchtrees · 13/05/2023 21:16

You’re so right!

CathyorClaire · 13/05/2023 21:30

They're all equally loathsome even if they go about achieving it in different ways 😎

All true. I’ve been accused of racism, despite being a person of colour myself. Also I keep reading comments on Andrew, which is funny coz neither Harry or Meghan have ever once brought up Andrew and criticised him. And the posters seem to conveniently ignore that Harry and Meghan have also backtracked on their racism claim.

Maireas · 13/05/2023 22:02

I think it's very frustrating if you have any criticism of H and M to be told ",what about Andrew!" as if you must support Andrew if you criticise H and M.
If you see racism, report it, it will get deleted, but not just accusations without basis.

DuchessOfPort · 13/05/2023 22:29

No person alive is above criticism that I can think of immediately!

And to suggest that the ONLY reason that people criticise Meghan’s PR missteps is because of her race is reductive to her as a human.

She has done some good things and some less good things. Harry’s the same. He’s just more of a see saw these days!

I think Harry expressed sympathy for Lady Hussey, rather than the POC asked repeatedly about where she was from?😂

So yes, not consistent...

But as someone who is white, I cannot comment on the inconsistency...

The family members H&M seem closest to are Andrew's daughters. And they seem to stand behind him (Andrew) 100%

DuchessOfPort · 13/05/2023 23:01

I don’t blame PA’s family supporting him. A lot of people would believe their father.

I think M&H are on speakers with them which is nice because everyone else thinks even basic small talk will go in the next book!

“And then the balding bastard would only talk to me about the weather! Wouldn’t look me in the eye, wouldn’t let my cameraman in. He’s always had it in for me!”

Maireas · 13/05/2023 23:13

Harry and Meghan have never said a word against Andrew. It's true that they're friendly with Beatrice and Eugenie in particular, which is interesting we they (and the whole York family) are good friends with Piers Morgan.

Sugarfree23 · 13/05/2023 23:46

There is a rumour Meghan knew Andrew before meeting any other Royals

Morestrangerthings · 13/05/2023 23:55

I think you’ve mistaken mumsnet for tattle.

Maireas · 14/05/2023 00:14

Meghan said she knew Eugenie before Harry. That's all.

This is indeed the case in this place. Not only on certain threads but with certain prolific posters .

For some posters who shriek and cry out about" pile ons and baiting" they themselves retort to others with words like these " Nobody is baiting you. It's called responding to posts "

We just all need to remember this. Use this as the stick phrase - unless of course it is only reserved for H and M supporters.
