What next for the Sussexes?

1000 replies

Casuaala · 07/05/2023 14:49

I thought yesterday couldn't have gone better, all things considered; there was the least amount of drama or negative coverage possible regarding the Sussexes.

I'd like to hope that this marks a fresh start. Harry's got all the recriminations off his chest. The Royal Family have maintained a dignified silence and hopefully the future is rosy. The Sussexes can have the life they want in the US, with a small presence in family events back here when appropriate. (I wouldn't be surprised however if Megan never makes it back on UK soil).

Explain how. How has her saying that conversations about skin colour, titles and security were happening at the same time, put back people of colours ‘well earned achievements’. I am assuming by this you mean not achievements but tackling racism. I’m a person of colour, and I don’t think she has done this. The person I responded to is white. People being racist because she dared to speak out don’t get their racist minimised by her behaviour. At all.

Quite simply because it has been proven she lied and embellished.

It hasn’t. How would that put back racial equality. You haven’t explained why she is responsible for racists behaviour. You can’t just blame a woman of colour speaking out for racism in society. That’s racist itself.

Maireas · 11/05/2023 07:40

Archie and Lilibet are Prince and Princess. No dispute. So the claims that titles were linked to colour were unfounded. If H and M were of the sincere belief that they were linked, then they should share who told them so. However, in the OW interview, H said the conversations took place before they married, M that it was when she was pregnant. Either way, it was said to Harry, so he needs to clarify. KC and MM have corresponded, we don't know what the outcome was.

Did you just type out that she is a poor example of a woman of colour? 😮

That’s racist.

Don't be silly now otherwise you are falling into that easy way out of a debate..

Actually we don’t know what the conversations were do we. You can’t say they were unfounded. What was said was that conversations took place around changing how the titles work, this is when the queen was still alive so would affect only Harry’s children. You can’t say they never took place, how would you know? They have said they did. Because all of the issues were being discussed, she felt othered within the family. I don’t blame her.

No that’s what you’re doing. Sometimes people are being racist. This is one of those times.

mixedrecycling · 11/05/2023 07:47

Just as Jussie Smollett's lies about being the victim of a racial attack have been unhelpful in getting attacks that ARE genuine to be taken seriously.

And Eleanor Williams lies have been unhelpful for genuine victims of grooming in being listened to.

Don't worry @BeenThereTooo , @Whaeanui seems to define racist as 'not agreeing with me' 😂

Whaeanui · 11/05/2023 07:49

But you don’t know it was a lie. The Queen made a statement about it, so something was said.

Again I must disagree with you.

Maireas · 11/05/2023 07:50

You have completely misread my post, @Whaeanui .
I never said the conversations never took place.
I never said anything was unfounded.
Critique my points by all means, but that's not what I wrote.

The Queen said 'recollections may vary' -not that she made a statement confirming 'something was said'. The variation in recollections may just as easily been that no-one knew of any such conversation.

How do you know I am white? If I am not white then i MUST be agreeing with you? Do you know me?

Maireas · 11/05/2023 07:51

What was unfounded was that Archie couldn't be a Prince because of his colour.

YOU are holding yourself to a higher level of deference! We cannot laugh at any of the statements you post - no matter how ridiculous - without being 'racist'? As a WOC you are above criticism?

Which confirms what I posted to @BeenThereTooo about your personal definition of racism as 'not agreeing with me'

Whaeanui · 11/05/2023 07:53

What was unfounded was that Archie couldn't be a Prince because of his colour.

It wasn’t said like that though. Suddenly changing the rules after your son marries a woman of colour may make that woman feel that’s the reason.

It isn’t my definition. The suggestion is insulting, deliberately so. We are discussing racism. You are laughing about it.

Which rule was suddenly changed?

Maireas · 11/05/2023 07:55

No. The rules weren't changed after someone married a woman of colour.
George V made the rules in 1917.
Not anything to do with Meghan.

The rules weren't changed then, though.

They were changed in 2012.

She was clearly talking about when Charles became King.

Maireas · 11/05/2023 07:56

Harry did a very bad job of explaining Letters Patent to her, didn't he?
