Coronation cover is so naff

Whether you are a fan of the RF or not, does the coverage have to be quite so cringeworthy in tone? Is it worse than usual or am I just jaded? Just listening to some CoE rep on the news and the reverential toadying tone made me turn over. Can’t anyone report on what’s happening without being quite such kiss arses?

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 04/05/2023 18:54

But the spoon @Atethehalloweenchocs 🤣

PollyPeptide · 04/05/2023 19:06

Yeah, you're just jaded. Seems OK to me.

LadyKenya · 04/05/2023 19:13

Only to be expected. They have to ramp up the feelgood pr. Willam, and kate visiting a pub today for instance, for no real reason other than to be seen.

Novella4 · 04/05/2023 19:21

But is it really to be expected @LadyKenya ?

We can see the soft propaganda ( well most can) so why bother with the pretence ?

Novella4 · 04/05/2023 19:24

Oh and @Atethehalloweenchocs

  • yes just avoid the tv for a few days .
It is cringeworthy Iplayer to curate your own or Netflix etc

I stopped with BBC / ITV news years ago . It's pretty pointless at the moment

Channel 4 will provide some normality I expect

dizzydizzydizzy · 04/05/2023 19:25

I'm with you OP. I'm fed up with the coronation already. Not watching any TV until at least Sunday.

Mojoj · 04/05/2023 19:26

It'll be over soon. Thank God.

wildfirewonder · 04/05/2023 19:30

It does feel more sycophantic than ever.

One string of bunting in our whole estate. It looks odd all on its own Confused

Quoronation · 04/05/2023 19:32

I do feel like they should get the sports commentators on it to liven it up a bit

AnnaMagnani · 04/05/2023 19:39

@JaneJeffer glad to see someone else is obsessed with the coronation spoon.

Personally wondering how Charles is supposed to carry 2 sceptres, an orb, a sword and all the other gubbins. I am imagining something like an adventure game.

Inkanta · 04/05/2023 19:42

Yes OP - I had to switch over when Dimbleby and Brandeth were talking effusively I used to lap up the preamble to Royal events but I've changed.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/05/2023 19:59

Was listening to Radio 2 the other night. This ridiculous programme presented by Zoe Ball came on, supposedly from Highgrove. I kid you not it went something like this "here we are at Highgrove and can you hear the birds tweeting in the trees, the sun is going down and all is wonderful ...". Utter fucking nonsense. I'm swerving it all and will watch some of it on Saturday. I'm not really a Republican but definitely not "all excited" about the Coronation.

Rockybooboo · 04/05/2023 20:09

Is the BBC talking about the protesters?

JaninaDuszejko · 04/05/2023 20:14

I quite enjoyed David Olusoga on R4 yesterday saying 'The Coronation has bits of ceremony that have been passed down for over a thousand years and it is weird, far weirder than their weddings and funerals that are pretty modern ceremonies, it's worth watching just to see how weird it is'.

He was completely history geeking out 😂

polkadotdalmation · 04/05/2023 20:28

Not bothering with all the hype, but I watch the news headlines once in awhile and avoid the news as much as possible. So all I'll really see if the actual ceremony and the proper bits, not this endless rambling on. The ancient ceremony I do find fascinating though.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 04/05/2023 20:54

It is naff, but then really so is the Royal Family. As highlighted by lots of comedy skits, like the QM as a whelk eating, stout supping, rhyming slang user in the original Spitting Image. Plus we brits are very, very good at kitschy souvenirs, which other country would have a realistic prospect of selling china tankards and commemorative dish towels in 2023! Grin

RiverSwimmingBliss · 04/05/2023 20:57

@Rockybooboo yes there was coverage of the protests planned on both the national and local news 😍.

RiverSwimmingBliss · 04/05/2023 20:57

Good to see a bit of balance in the sea of sycophancy 🤬.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 04/05/2023 21:04

YANBU. They could cover it in a factual way without sounding really nauseating.

Do you remember what programme that was? I might listen on BBC Sounds.

mdinbc · 04/05/2023 21:15

Come to Canada, not a whiff of it on the TV. The odd 30 second blurb on the news about the PM going out of country for the ceremony, travel expenses,,, etc.

It is scheduled to air here at 2am, so will be over by the time anyone is up and about. There is the odd group of Brits arranging viewing parties in the middle of the night.

That at least provides a bit of balance

Maybe he's got a Royal Wheelbarrow?

DaughterLaFontaine · 04/05/2023 22:57

Level up! You have reached "anointed sovereign". Character effects: extra inventory slots!

Quote fail! That would have been in response to the "all the items, sort of like an adventure game" post.
