Coronation cover is so naff

Whether you are a fan of the RF or not, does the coverage have to be quite so cringeworthy in tone? Is it worse than usual or am I just jaded? Just listening to some CoE rep on the news and the reverential toadying tone made me turn over. Can’t anyone report on what’s happening without being quite such kiss arses?

I’ve not watched any TV coverage, I am spamming my brain with Eurovision updates. This weekend is purely Eurovision prep for me!

Atethehalloweenchocs · 04/05/2023 23:45

Glad it’s not just me. There was some priest on the news talking about what will happen on Saturday and it was so syncophantic it was sickening. The brits do pagentry so well, we will all be keen to pledge allegiance, the majesty of the whole thing. The weirdness quote is the only one that makes sense!

I did like the programme earlier this week about creating the uniforms for the armed services and the like, it was fascinating.

Roussette · 05/05/2023 07:43

It is absolutely nauseatingly sycophantic, it really is.

If they bring on Nicholas Witchell, I am seriously going to start drinking from a very early hour. I am channel hopping trying to listen to local elections. Interspersed with minutes on that is interviewing the most peculiar people who have been camping out.

Then this...
Charles and Camilla have recorded a special message that will be played across all 2,570 UK rail stations and the 270 London Underground stations over the Coronation weekend

I have never heard anything so ridiculous, both of them talking in cut glass plummy voices saying to enjoy the weekend and "mind the gap" ... honestly I give up. They sound like someone from a bygone age

That's pretty arrogant. They're assuming that everyone wants to hear them talk. The Queen didn't do that.

Have you heard it? Honestly it is awful. I really hope one of my DCs who is up in London catches the tube and hears it. She will probably get the whole carriage swearing!

Brace yourself @Rockybooboo here it is

Thanks!
They just looked confused.

Got such a violent video game ad on that mind the gap link. Shouldn't be allowed.

All I can think since this thread is of the king being like the Buckaroo mule and they're going to hang one object too many on him and he'll fling the whole lot off.

mixedrecycling · 05/05/2023 10:43

AnnaMagnani · 04/05/2023 19:39

@JaneJeffer glad to see someone else is obsessed with the coronation spoon.

Personally wondering how Charles is supposed to carry 2 sceptres, an orb, a sword and all the other gubbins. I am imagining something like an adventure game.

Perhaps he's been learning to juggle? That would liven things up 😂

Yes, with Patrick from British Sewing Bee, ACRES of gold braid of varying widths, and hundreds of years of buttons. The man making the helmets by hand was interesting as well - though not for his conversational powers so much as he is only one of two people in the world who can do it. Mind you, there's not much demand I suppose...

Omg the William and Kate pub visit yesterday was the cringiest thing I have ever seen! I’m sure they actually do go to pubs in the countryside from time to time, so this fake pub visit with the public cordoned off and waving flags was probably the opposite of the intended tone - made them seem like caricatures of themselves! And Kate was in a ridiculous coat for a soho pub visit. Clearly trying to drum up some enthusiasm for the next in line but it was 🤮🤮🤮🤮

Roussette · 05/05/2023 10:58

Apparently when they were in the pub, it was just them and their security. No one else.

so cringeworthy! And he didn’t even drink the pint. It honestly drove me to drink last night it was so stupid. A nice stiff negroni was the only cure to the cringe 😂

OMG I love a negroni ! You've put an idea in my head now... need to check the bottles under the stairs!

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 05/05/2023 11:05

It would have been better had Kate dressed more casually, I think. William was wearing smart casual, whilst Kate looked ready for a palace garden party to me.

Coronation Buckaroo is a brilliant idea. I hope some enterprising firm is putting it into production right now!

Also Coronation Snakes and Ladders. The twist is that you have to wait 70+years to throw the dice, but the snakes end up being crowned on the 100th square.

Lol - who the hell falls for this old guff??

The pint that he poured ( as you down the local) looked 100% froth . No substance
Fitting metaphor

And the meet and greet was painful . It may be his natural smile , in which case it is unfortunate , but Willaim looked like he was snarling with clenched teeth
It must have been after the pints because his eyes were swivelling but somehow never met the eyes of the people he was greeting

Who do they think they were fooling
It's actually insulting that they they think this sort of stunt will work

'I have never heard anything so ridiculous, both of them talking in cut glass plummy voices saying to enjoy the weekend and "mind the gap" ... honestly I give up. They sound like someone from a bygone age'

One minute folk say there isn't any build up or coverage, next posters are slagging off the 'sycophancy' of said apparent non coverage and now their 'cut glass plummy' voices for releasing a nice feel good message. Would you prefer they put on a broad scouse accent perhaps?

I thought the pub visit was a nice laid back touch. They seem such classy but down to earth, likeable people.

It'll all be over soon, all you bitter resentful republicans need only to busy yourselves avoiding the telly for one more day Grin.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 05/05/2023 11:16

You're right. I said to DH yesterday if you want a particular program pause it an hour before so you fast forward all the bits about the King!

'Snarling wirh clenched teeth' 'his eyes were snivelling' 🤣🤣
