Whether you are a fan of the RF or not, does the coverage have to be quite so cringeworthy in tone? Is it worse than usual or am I just jaded? Just listening to some CoE rep on the news and the reverential toadying tone made me turn over. Can’t anyone report on what’s happening without being quite such kiss arses?

@Coxspurplepippin Can you post links to those comments? Not what I have read at all, so please link to the evidence.

It will be put down as a 'work engagement' on the Court Circular though... every bit adds up!

They walked around for half an hour. I do think they could've done a lot longer. I know it's peculiar, but iIt means so much to those superfans

They’ve literally been on the go for about two weeks travelling all over the place probably talking to thousands of people. That is “ work” in my book.
and they have 3 days to go!

CoffeeWithCheese · 05/05/2023 17:13

It's doing my head in - there are bits that interest me like the costumery and artisans making those elements... but the wank about the amazing work they do and the fucking nut jobs camped out on the Mall and saturation coverage of them is pissing me off - I've got the news on trying to follow the local elections and it just gets taken over by Doris from Oldham on her camping chair wittering on about God Save the King every 30 seconds.

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 17:17

@sashagabadon The point is that half an hours walkabout talking to people counts as one engagement. William did 126 engagements last year. It does not add up to a lot.

sashagabadon · 05/05/2023 17:18

To be honest I think people that get surprised at the crowds at royal events have a lot of overlap with the people shocked at brexit. They are the ones utterly out of touch but have no idea they are.
it boggles my mind especially when this is the third royal event in 12 months. That people generally like the royals and like our stable constitution and don’t want a chaotic ever changing republic shouldn’t be a shock to anyone paying attention.

God, I couldn’t care less!

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 17:22

@sashagabadon who has expressed surprise? Of course there will be crowds, including a lot of foreign tourists.

Rhondaa · 05/05/2023 17:24

'and the fucking nut jobs camped out on the Mall'

Nutjobs? Honestly the way people sneer at the fans is disgusting. If they want to camp out, so what! They all seem like very cheerful people having a lovely time. Good for them.

medianewbie · 05/05/2023 17:25

I'll be out at 11.
I don't have Sky, but do have BBC iPlayer. Can I watch the whole thing later, or will it just be highlights please?

Sorry. Don't agree. I wrote out a long post but thought better of it.

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 17:26

@Janiie who said that?

But he'll do other stuff behind the scenes. I doubt he's just on a chaise longue all day being fed grapes by servants.

vera99 · 05/05/2023 17:28

We’re off to see the Wizard the wonderful Wizard of Oz. I'm hoping to get a heart.

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 17:29

@Janiie Since they report actual phone calls as engagements, then that is pretty much the work they do. William also enjoys polo matches, hunting and parties.

Roussette · 05/05/2023 17:29

What I find so curious... they all seem to know each other! There must be a hard core of campers who keep in touch and swap stuff or whatever. And talk about the hats they're going to wear.

Two elderly ladies this morning had had only one hours sleep the night before last, god knows how people do it.

Rhondaa · 05/05/2023 17:30

@Janiie who said that?

@CoffeeWithCheese 17.13.

Also mentions 'Doris from Oldham' with ageist and classist connotations. Nice.

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 17:31

@Janiie So one person. Did you report it?

Oh, yes Brexit that's going well isn't it - will of the people and all that. Totally stable - we are the sick man of Europe with our public services collapsing - but just look at the 250-year-old golden carriage. You have spent your £250 million + on this fawn fest - at the very least we get to carp.

Roussette · 05/05/2023 17:32

Everyone to their own, but there has been some gobsmacking interviews with some of them. I'll say no more

Well, a post on this thread at 17.13 has just saved me the effort of tracking back through recent threads.....

A poster on this thread just referred to people on the mall camping as “nutjobs”. That’s actually worse than expressing surprise.

One post is not everyone. I'm being remarkably restrained!

sashagabadon · 05/05/2023 17:35

You can carp away Vera. That’s one of the great things about our monarchy actually. People are free to criticise them.
but you still have to accept they are going nowhere anytime soon.

I'm with you CwC. They would have been on the front rows of public executions as well buying a halfpenny lithograph as a souvenir.

Coxspurplepippin · 05/05/2023 17:37

Who said everyone? I certainly didn't. There's plenty more than one post over the last few days.

'gobsmacking interviews' - is that code for something?
