What are you eating at your Coronation Party?

I was going to have a BBQ but I am not convinced we will have the weather for one.

Sandwiches, scones and cakes could be a option but might be a bit twee and not too filling?

I worry with frozen party food it's too much like a kids birthday party.

I don't want to spend ages over the stove either!

We will be about 8 adults, a few teenagers and a few kids. We like a drink so plenty of beers and wine but the food is stumping me!

What are you having to eat on Saturday?

I made the quiche and it’s in the fridge ready for tomorrow. Managed to burn the spinach first attempt but made an emergency supermarket trip and got some more. The pastry making went surprisingly well. Hope it tastes ok tomorrow.

We are having a full on roast at my sisters and eating about 2ish . Wine and dips whilst watching the celebrations.
Adult children all too cool to admit they want to watch it but are still coming to eat the roast !

I've tried to represent British traditions and relevant regions.

We're having a traditional cream tea with Cornish clotted cream (Duchy of Cornwall)
Dinner of homegrown English asparagus, Roast beef with Jersey Royal potatoes
Blackberry crumble - trad
Welsh cheese (PoW) and Double Gloucester (Highgrove with Scottish Oatcakes (Balmoral)

We had a biriyani as it called for something special although I only watched snippets as I was at work in the morning. We are doing an afternoon tea on Monday. Even if you aren't a royalist, it's a bank holiday weekend so nice to have a bit of a treat.

We didn't have a party but I bought a Coronation Colin for DH and myself which we had most of yesterday and I have saved his head to eat while watching the concert tonight, DH has been told not to eat it.

I made the Coronation Quiche and it was delicious, will definitely make it again. I wish I’d saved it for our neighbourhood Coronation Party this afternoon but I didn’t feel up to inflicting an untried recipe on new neighbours I’m hoping to befriend!

I was sceptical at first, it was faffy, a bit Waitrose (fresh tarragon not easy to come by in these parts unless you happen to grow it), the timings and quantities were all over the place but it tasted lovely, and distinctive.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 07/05/2023 12:08

I thought the quiche was quite nice. Maybe a bit too much tarragon. I put in double the cheese having read a review and that was a good call. The broad beans and spinach were good. DH said it could have done with some chicken in it. About the right amount of faff to feel like I had achieved something 🙂

The quiche does sound nice, DH hates any quiche though so it would have to freeze ok if I made it which I'm not sure it would. I do like broad beans though.
