What are you eating at your Coronation Party?

I was going to have a BBQ but I am not convinced we will have the weather for one.

Sandwiches, scones and cakes could be a option but might be a bit twee and not too filling?

I worry with frozen party food it's too much like a kids birthday party.

I don't want to spend ages over the stove either!

We will be about 8 adults, a few teenagers and a few kids. We like a drink so plenty of beers and wine but the food is stumping me!

What are you having to eat on Saturday?

We are having a little tea party (husband, me and our four kids).

Scones, jam and cream
Some little sandwiches cut into fingers
Little cakes
Bowl of crisps
Some mini pork pies and so on

Kids are excited to have tea in a tea pot and I'm going to scour the charity shops this week for some cups and saucers (because we don't have any!)

The hypocrisy of the Sussex squad eh😂 offended by the coronation cost, but Meghan and Harry’s ostentatious displays are much admired 😂 and selling family gossip to the likes of Netflix and Oprah for a fast buck also somehow justified 😂

Ignore the kill joys, how very sad for them to be have to endure the countdown to the coronation and to feel the need to log in to the royal thread just to pour scorn 😂

AdoraBell · 01/05/2023 22:19

Not decided yet. Too much else to think about tbh. Neighbours all joining in and DH and 1 neighbour were chatting about BBQ today.

MayQueeen · 01/05/2023 22:23

As much as I like quiche and spinach - and think it’s great it’s making use of seasonal veg, I do think coronation chicken just had that extra something about it. And it was quite distinctive.

Do people say they admire Harry and Meghan s ostentatious displays? . It doesn't impress me. The difference is the Coronation is being for by taxpayers who are struggling.

We are having a family picnic of scones, jam and cream, marmalade sandwiches, tea, Champagne, Elderflower cordial, Coronation Quiche, cheeses, cucumber and cress sandwiches, grapes, and on the BBQ - Coronation Chicken?? see how that goes ?? and Lollypop chops (cutlets). We are playing lovely church music, singing and wearing home made crowns.
In a park near home with a playground.
Then progressing inside for the actual telecast.

I've never heard the word telecast! That aside, you know that it will start around 9.30-10am?

I've just been 5 days with my adult DCs and their partners for a special event/holiday

Not once was the coronation even mentioned! It means absolutely nothing to us.

THEN WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ON THIS THREAD??! 😆😂🤣

Sorry for shouting, everyone's food sounds amazing. I'm loving the marmalade sandwiches <adds them to list>

ReverseFerret · 02/05/2023 15:49

I'm not having a coronation parry... the monarchy can fuck right off

mum2jakie · 03/05/2023 19:26

No party but just treated myself to some taste the difference fruity scones, extra thick cream and cherry jam from Sainsbury's. I'm the only one that likes scones so will have to eat all of them - hard times 😂

I am going to make the quiche on Friday and then buy some easy things to go in the oven - pizza and dough balls maybe. Will probably have some salad too. I have some coronation cupcakes from Tesco - I might make a trifle on Friday as well.

00621644B, that sounds fab!

Yoyooo · 05/05/2023 17:26

So I did my shop today so have my final decisions:

Guests are arriving from 10.30am to watch on telly so it's BLT or sausage and onion baguettes for brunch.

Then in the afternoon pizza, salad, coleslaw, nice crisps and a selection of cakes as a buffet.
