What are you eating at your Coronation Party?

I was going to have a BBQ but I am not convinced we will have the weather for one.

Sandwiches, scones and cakes could be a option but might be a bit twee and not too filling?

I worry with frozen party food it's too much like a kids birthday party.

I don't want to spend ages over the stove either!

We will be about 8 adults, a few teenagers and a few kids. We like a drink so plenty of beers and wine but the food is stumping me!

What are you having to eat on Saturday?

Right so go start your own thread in chat if you want to whinge. Or go to style and beauty and have the same whinge over stupid priced bags and people not being able to eat.

The OP started a harmless thread in the right topic. Give it a swerve FFS.

Anyone who lived in the UK are entitled to talk about the monarchy as they choose. It is disgusting the amount of money being spent on this and what's worse, these people turn up at food banks and give speeches about poverty and this shows they don't give a shot about their subjects

One in seven parents are skipping meals at the moment, so around 15% of people will presumably be eating very little.

It is not easy to watch £250m be spent on this one event.”

Quite.

Is it actually true that they’ve spent £8 million on portraits 😳?

PrancerandDancer · 30/04/2023 14:20

Gruel

I’m supposed to be planning a Coronation party for the adults with LD I look after and due to various unforeseen circumstances I’ve so far done NOTHING.

Please keep posting your menus and ideas. I beg you.

Heh it's always the same isn't it? Seen some mint table grub in my time but when its me doing mind goes blank.

Rockybooboo · 30/04/2023 14:22

It's also a religious ceremony. I would say the cost of it is the opposite of Christian. It's just bloody hypocritical

The competitive miseries are out in force

Yes they are.

AutumnCrow · 30/04/2023 14:23

Most of my family will be working.

DiscoBeat · 30/04/2023 14:24

It hasn't occurred to me! I might do an afternoon cream tea and bubbly for my mum, she might appreciate that.

UpWhenItsDown · 30/04/2023 14:24

Whatever is cheap, as usual. Yellow sticker reduced items in the supermarket probably.

It’s not any easier just because there’s a coronation. 🤷🏻‍♀️

drpet49 · 30/04/2023 14:22

Yes they are.

This is a cheap insult, calling those who raise concerns 'miseries' is an attempt to throw a personal insult at the person making the point rather than engage with the argument.

I could describe those who are excited about the coronoation as 'simpletons' - I am not doing so, but it is the same order of remark - personal, and of no substance.

User165342 · 30/04/2023 14:27

A big spread like we usually do every weekend

Rockybooboo · 30/04/2023 14:28

Yes they are.

Yeah people should put it shut up or put up with not being able to afford food.

I am from another country, and so I am seeing this as an outsider.

Firstly.... Wtf is this quiche with broad beans in all about? Who decided this, and why broad beans? We even had a discussion about it and decided that it must be because it's vegetarian and that broad beans are popular / very British / filling. We didn't all agree on the latter. (we don't get these beans, but I have tasted them and wouldn't like to ever again).

Secondly, even here on the news we are hearing about the UK cost of living crisis. We hear of the strikes, and the appalling state of the NHS. So I just simply cannot wrap my head around spending this amount of money on ONE occasion, to most likely have to spend it all again in the not too distant future when it's William's turn.

We tried to find a breakdown of what makes up this 250million but couldn't seem to find it. On top of that we are thinking there will be sales of merchandise as well.

It has been quite the talking point here in the southern hemisphere.

I love Quiche but the thought of broad bean quiche turns my stomach !

drpet49 · 30/04/2023 14:22

Yes they are.

It can be miserable if you don’t have nice food or enough food in many cases at the moment. Worrying about having enough money for food to feed your family is draining.

TidyDancer · 30/04/2023 14:35

We're going to do an afternoon tea type thing. So basically a buffet. Not sure of the exact food I'll get, will see when I get to the supermarket I think. But it'll be nice to do something we don't usually do.

LlynTegid · 30/04/2023 14:41

Likely to take some Battenberg cake and maybe make some sandwiches- it's a party at a local church. Battenberg as that was the family name that would apply had Prince Philip's family not changed it in WW1.

midsomermurderess · 30/04/2023 14:42

‘I’m sure many people will be eating their usual cheap food in this cost of living crisis’. Sterling contribution there, from high up on your coma-inducing high horse. The sheer, screaming dullardry of it!

Or someone who's living in poverty and depressed because they're struggling.

SidekickSylvia · 30/04/2023 14:44

Smoked salmon/cucumber/ham/egg sandwiches with a generic buffet. Scones, victoria sponge and lots of mini desserts, cider, pimm's, wine and champagne. We have the neighbours from both sides coming over with their teens, so about 16 of us (we have four teens plus a bf and gf). Hope the weather's nice enough for us to use the garden too. I have seen some local gardens and village greens already decorated and with bunting up around these parts.

midsomermurderess · 30/04/2023 14:45

And you just a sour-faced herd. I doubt any of you actually give a damn about anyone else. It’s 6th form, knee-jerk sanctimony. Your own families have zoned out , so now you’re roaming the intent for victims of your hollow sanctimony.

Again - the comeback to anyone is to call it 'dullardry' rather than explain why it is fine for a single day event to cost £250m whilst one in seven parents are regularly skipping meals.

Always the personal insults.

How do you know it's not affecting us personally?

FriendsDrinkBook · 30/04/2023 14:48

The same as usual.

Wrt the event , it still feels like only yesterday that The Queen passed. So I won't be celebrating.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 30/04/2023 14:52

Again, if it’s ‘dullard’ to give a shit about people not being able to afford to eat whilst one family get to spend £250 mill on one day, I’ll take that.
