What are you eating at your Coronation Party?

I was going to have a BBQ but I am not convinced we will have the weather for one.

Sandwiches, scones and cakes could be a option but might be a bit twee and not too filling?

I worry with frozen party food it's too much like a kids birthday party.

I don't want to spend ages over the stove either!

We will be about 8 adults, a few teenagers and a few kids. We like a drink so plenty of beers and wine but the food is stumping me!

What are you having to eat on Saturday?

We’re doing a big afternoon tea with sandwiches, mini pasties, quiches & chorizo sausage rolls. Scones, clotted cream & jam. Chocolate eclairs, Victoria sponge and macaroons. Pimms & Prosecco to drink.

DurhamDurham · 30/04/2023 14:54

Swan

F1ymetothetoon · 30/04/2023 15:30

Going out for a Coronation cream tea so teeny sandwiches and cakes plus shit loads of Prosecco

AutumnCrow · 30/04/2023 15:40

I might spend the afternoon washing and folding some clothes for our community cupboard at the homeless kitchen. Dullard enough for you?

I'd rather be doing that than pretending that Corriezilla is going to live forever. He's no highlander. He can't handle the highlands.

Sudeko · 30/04/2023 15:48

I'm not a fan but I will acknowledge it for a laugh by having Charles-on-Toast and possibly Charles' favourite breakfast. I have been making it for several years using Duchy ingredients. I am sworn to secrecy regarding the recipe.

Hintofreality · 30/04/2023 15:54

Someone else’s Husband in tribute to our new Queen.

Sudeko · 30/04/2023 15:56

😅Love it!

This is a cheap insult, calling those who raise concerns 'miseries' is an attempt to throw a personal insult at the person making the point rather than engage with the argument.

I could describe those who are excited about the coronoation as 'simpletons' - I am not doing so, but it is the same order of remark - personal, and of no substance.

Well said.

VeronicaTimeTurner · 30/04/2023 16:00

Bet you're glad you asked, OP, eh? 😂

We're doing a BBQ and we put the bunting up this afternoon. I'm not particularly a fan of the royal family but it's part of history isn't it?

Yoyooo · 30/04/2023 16:02

I'm sorry that this thread has offended some people - it really wasn't the intention.

I am simply looking forward to a nice day spent with loved ones, the fact that it is the coronation is irrelevant really but it's a nice theme, a bit like a Eurovision party or Halloween. We are all feeling the COL crisis, but we must enjoy life where we can.

Zero.

AutumnCrow · 30/04/2023 16:12

Fair enough, OP. You'd probably get less, erm, eclectic views if you posted in Food/Recipes.

8roses · 30/04/2023 16:17

The topic should really be called the anti royal family - god forbid someone should create a positive thread!

PollyPeptide · 30/04/2023 16:20

We're having a right royal afternoon tea. I'm excited.

I suppose the point is that food isn’t something ‘where they can’ get enjoyment at the moment. Food costs are a real problem. Theres thread after thread of people asking for how to keep food costs down, what’s the cheapest supermarket, how to make £10 last the week etc.

When there’s a thread asking what you’re going to eat for a coronation, it’s no surprise that the cost of living issues and people’s feelings are going to spill into it, when it’s taxpayers money that will be paying for what they see on the tv, whilst they’re eating cheap beans on cheap bread. Again.

I don't see why this is the wrong topic?

I would probably get the same responses in any topic tbh.

Thank you to those who have given me some good ideas - I think sandwiches, scones and cakes and a jug of pimms will do the trick. Hopefully it will be a lovely day which we will all remember and a day to escape all the issues we are currently facing.

I get it, I really do.

I can afford at the moment to splash out of a few cakes and a jug of pimms for my family and friends who are struggling so I will. I hope someone would do the same for me if the shoe was on the other foot.

Maybe but it’s the RF topic which should be ok. Although maybe not given how threads go

op we found doing a party for last one where everyone brought stuff pretty cheap but so much food, homemade salads, sandwiches with nice bread, tiramisu

Same for this time for about fifty

hotpotlover · 30/04/2023 16:34

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 30/04/2023 13:23

Exactly my feelings. I’m not ‘anti royal’ nor a royalist - couldn’t care if they went away but don’t wish them harm.

But spending £250 million to have some bloke anointed ‘by god’ whilst people are actively starving?

It’s tone deaf, smack of horrific ego and makes me far less ‘Long Live the King’ and more ‘Vive La Revolution’.

I won’t be watching.

I don't disagree with you, but I'm sure there will be lots of posters along in a bit to remind you how much money the royals bring into the country yawn

It being the Royal family topic doesn’t mean it’s for supporters of the RF only.

It is of course ‘ok’ for OP to make a thread like this, but it’s also ok for people to post about cost of living or not supporting the RF at all on OPs thread.

Cherrysherbet · 30/04/2023 16:45

Let them eat cake.

SunnyEgg · 30/04/2023 16:52

Pp probably had a point re recipe section

I know it might feel nuts but you’d likely get just food responses

AutumnCrow · 30/04/2023 16:57

Posters on Food/Recipes go mad for a buffet.

A themed buffet is like heaven over there.

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 30/04/2023 17:22

We are going to a local brewery for a bbq.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 30/04/2023 17:25

I’m working on the Saturday but will possibly do a cream tea with DM & DF on the Sunday.
