The royal family

Why is Harry coming to the coronation at all?

He's apparently not going to see his father and he's just flying in an out, leaving immediately after the ceremony to rush back to California. I know it's nice to be at your kid's birthday party, but FFS this is his father's coronation, a day he's been waiting for his whole life. So Harry is flying all the way over here, no doubt burning up the planet on a fucking private jet, and all for what? To be seen to be there? What for? What a waste of time. If he's not even going to celebrate with his family I don't know why he doesn't just stay in California, since that's clearly where he'd rather be. I don't understand why he's coming at all.

Because much as he seems to loathe them he needs the Royal link for his US enablers and paychecks.

100%

Absolutely this

They could have had a lovely gathering for all of that generation, Archie get spoiled rotten with a birthday party in the afternoon (and have a party back in the US with his friends).

But the royals don't care about Archie though. And they probably wouldn't all convene to hold a birthday party for him. It'll just be M,H, L and A and it would be better for him at home, with his friends and others who actually love him.

Why on earth do you think they don't care about him?

OK, they haven't seen him in person for yonks, but there's no reason to think they don't care.

And as it's likely all the parents will be in London for the Coronation, then there's no particular reason why the offspring would not also be there. So not really anything to "convene", rather something lovely for the children whilst the adults are busy.

Quveas · 24/04/2023 18:47

Ffs give it up now. Who cares?? About the coronation, the royal family, or the clickbait media? Get a life.

Don't forget the Inheritance he obviously wants, too.

Harry is definitely the 'Prodigal', and he looks far from happy, despite making millions airing his Royal Laundry in public.

When he comes, he ought to put a brave face on it, not just scowl and glare.

If inheritance is any part of it then it’s his brother he needs to fix things with…

The royals do sovereign to sovereign (and consort to sovereign) transfer to be IHT exempt.

So George VI, the Queen Mum and Prince Philip will have left everything to QEII.
QEII will have left absolutely everything to Charles. Any dishing out or sharing will be done by him.

Charles in turn will leave everything to William…

I don’t know how anyone could read/listen to Spare and not sympathise with Harry. The rf is bonkers and he was simply doing what they’ve been doing for years, but in a more upfront and clear way by telling it in his own words and not to “royal sources”. Honestly the first thing I think of when I see “royal sources” is ok so that’s a load of crap!!

Anyway I’m sad it’s just Harry coming because I was really excited to see Meghan’s outfit 😁

and anyone defending Andrew here need to wake tf up!

Kvetching · 24/04/2023 18:50

I guess his dad wants him there and he’s being loyal.

If any of the frothers actually read Spare, they’d realise he didn’t say anything bad in it.

Personally I think he’d be happier if he stayed home. His son’s birthday is more important.

Loyal???? I nearly spat out my tea!

Brandishing his family racists, slagging off his family on Oprah as his ‘beloved’ grandfather lay dying, selling them out in his book. Humiliating his father at every turn.

Look up the word loyalty.

AllIeveknewonlyou · 24/04/2023 19:00

Is it just me who thinks the coronation isn't about Charles? We have a constitutional monarchy and this just marks a change in who is 'head'.

It isn't about family spats. Harry is irrelevant.

SequinsandStilettos · 24/04/2023 19:00

Poor Bastard cannot win either way.
Same as Meghan - she has been getting on with things out the way for a few months now - but that doesn't sell...so 1 article in 3 is still some toxic tagline about her.
Harry coming over is the compromise solution. I'd be doing exactly the same - get in, get on, get out. Some of you are un poco loco.

capitanaamerica · 24/04/2023 19:02

Because this specific course of action is what Charles (presumably in consultation with Camilla and various advisors) and Harry (presumably in consultation with Meghan) decided was the best option overall. Unless there's an eventual leak, that's about all that can or will be known.

Also, aren't they being kind of stingy about the invitations? Town & Country said that apart from Rishi Sunak, no UK government ministers are offered a +1. Humza Yousaf and Andrzej Duda have confirmed attending alone. Even Jill Biden can't bring a date!

Chestnut12 · 24/04/2023 19:03

@Blizzard23 have you read the book? I wouldn’t say he sold anyone out. He was telling his version of events after years and years of being subjected to “royal sources” AND his own father and Camilla leaking stories about him.

Theres been errors on both sides. I think it’s admirable that Charles extended the invitation, and equally admirable that Harry is attending. They obviously both want to work on things but that’s going to take a long time.

He didn’t brandish his family racists. The press reported it so, but what they actually said was that there were concerns about Archie’s skin colour. Do you think he made that up? ‘While his grandfather lay dying’ is just hysteria to suit the bad guy narrative.

If you read his book, you’d see it’s very reasoned and he manages not to slag anyone off at all. He speaks incredibly respectfully about his father.

He was treated incredibly badly by his toxic family - his book is a great read. But if you’re expecting a fest of slagging off his family, you’ll be massively disappointed.

It can not be resolved now. It has gone way too far.
Duty is why Harry was invited, money is why Harry accepted.

Blizzard23 · 24/04/2023 19:08

I feel sorry for Harry, I don’t believe he is well and has been exploited by sharks like sunshine sachs.

YourTruthorMine · 24/04/2023 19:09

Plenty of people trying to control and shut down the conversation as usual. Straight out of a manipulator's tool box. I do wonder what kind of people walk among us on Mumsnet

It's not about being 'stingy'. It's about the fact that the capacity of the Abbey is limited to about 2000 guests, and the partners of various government ministers aren't that high a priority. Also not sure what you mean about 'even' Jill Biden? She's the spouse of a foreign Head of State, so no reason she'd be granted any special privileges.

Question about his skin colour

No backup for H&M when Archie was born in terms of speaking out against racist reporting, especially of Archie (chimp tweet?)

It's not a "dignified" thing for the royal family to be silent when their two newest family members were being openly attacked in the press every day. And it's especially stupid and telling of them that they couldn't be bothered to stick up for their first non-white family members. No, they don't care about Archie. (Or Lili for that matter. )

So he can write about how he was snubbed at the coronation by his family and how isolated he feels , all in his next book….

This.

Not that I follow Twitter, but there's some gossip about MM looking extremely different and 'no wonder she's been missing for a few months' comments ... hhmm interesting!

I guess we will never know whether there is a genuine motive to repair the rift or whether it’s just for keeping both sides of the public happy. Either way I think they’ve made the right call.

Really not sure how anyone can think Harry comes across as “unwell”. Again, if you take time to read the book, he comes across very well and balanced. As a pp said he is actually complimentary of Charles in a lot of places.

This thread is about Harry and the coronation, not Meghan's face. You're going off topic.

the most popular Princess of the modern world, Queen of our Hearts, a strong woman who should have had the chance to change the world - she must have been seen as a threat.

Excuse me while I vomit.
