No surprise he's coming on his own to the coronation.

@Serenster @Roussette Yes, there were about 20 palace releases defending Meghan. I don't remember one single one regarding the press treatment of Catherine, which was appalling and went on for many years, not just a few months.

purpledalmation · 14/04/2023 10:06

Yes, Harry confirmed in the bradby interview that he had 'conditions' that had to be met before he would attend. Clearly those conditions haven't been met, and no apology to meghan made.

The reason the couple are using is that it's Archie's birthday so meghan will stay with the kids. Perfectly good reason but they've known for 4 years what day Archie's birthday falls on, so could have answered much sooner. Just rude, game playing and mind games.

I predict a lot of birthday party photos will be appearing a few days later 😂

Whaeanui · 14/04/2023 10:08

The reason the couple are using Oh I didn’t realise they announced that. Have they?

Sudeko · 14/04/2023 10:11

His mind isn't much of a mystery 😃
It was probably "Confirm the security we've been fighting over or you won't see the kids at the Coronation"

KillerSandy · 14/04/2023 10:16

M maybe has the sense to realise how negative an appearance would be for her image whereas H continues with his one foot in and one foot out approach. He is the bigger hypocrite. Charles is a weak selfish man as well.

Whaeanui · 14/04/2023 10:17

Confirm the security

as I suggested above. Which I think is reasonable.

“HI Dad, I can’t come until someone confirms that this event which involves you as the Head of State, all the key people in the government and other UK institutions, various world leaders and other Heads of State, plus priceless jewels and historic artifacts will have security. Can you get back to me please?” 🤣🤣

Whaeanui · 14/04/2023 10:22

Security for his entire trip.

diflasu · 14/04/2023 10:23

He is the one who is obviously making this into a story here.

I think it could clearly have been handled with no story if Sussexes and Palace had managed to come to some agreement earlier about attendance it would have stopped any speculation meaning no story.

The Sussexes are the one's who need or are at least chasing commercial success and headlines speculating keep them in public gaze - so I don't think it's a huge surprise to find many people think it was a deliberate ploy.

However I suspect it been more careful negotiations which given tensions and public spotlight probably couldn't be avoided but in mean time press has had a field day claiming the Sussexes were demanding the moon on a stick and portraying they as entitled narcissists.

I suspect Harry Bradby interview comments needing conditions met for attendance probably there was even less room for concessions from the palace than if that had been kept quiet and handled behind the scenes - and his public statements meant he probably felt he had no choice but to look like he was standing firm when there was probably very little room to get anything as it's a state occasion with many important people attending.

I think Harry made it so he can easily look like the loser - going and risk being sidelined or even booed and petty if he didn't attend especially after all the articles say he was demanding x and y. Meghan's very smart to stay the hell away and leave it in Harry's lap not only because it's his family but because he's handled the PR all wrong.

Serenster · 14/04/2023 10:25

Whaeanui · 14/04/2023 10:22

Security for his entire trip.

Presumably he could just use the same security as he did for his trip to attend court a couple of weeks ago - he must have been happy with that.

Viviennemary · 14/04/2023 10:29

What about dogbowlgate. He will afford a solid gold one with the money he made from Spare. Its horrible really. Still doesn't seem to have done William's reputation any damage. Only Harry's for trashing his family.

Well deserved given the racism and toxicity

Serenster · 14/04/2023 10:33

Kate had toxicity, misogyny, physical and sexual harassment and invasions of her privacy for 10 years but didn’t deserve any press office assistance?

Whaeanui · 14/04/2023 10:33

Why should he pay for it if the trip is for the coronation? If his fatter can pay for Andrew and Fergie, he can pay to keep his son safe too.

You think Kate's was worse. I don't. And it's still going on and even more vile now.

Whaeanui · 14/04/2023 10:34

Kate had toxicity, misogyny, physical and sexual harassment and invasions of her privacy for 10 years but didn’t deserve any press office assistance?

She did. So did Diana and Fergie. The problem is the monarchy relies so much on the press exposure, who won’t give it to them for nothing so they don’t do everything they could to address these things.

Serenster · 14/04/2023 10:35

But you must also know that Charles is not in control of who gets taxpayer funded security?

Unless you are suggesting Harry was insisting that Charles pay for Harry’s private security? Which by the way will in large part only be needed because if Harry’s own actions.

Yep. They allow it for pretty pictures when they want them.
It's very rotten

Serenster · 14/04/2023 10:37

I don’t dehumanise Harry and Meghan, Roussette. I can’t say the same about their supporters and the rest of the royal family.

Whaeanui · 14/04/2023 10:39

Excuse me? Who do you mean? I’m a supporter of them here and I don’t dehumanise any of the other royals.

Not very nice if so

In 2012, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge launched legal proceedings against French magazine Closer to stop it re-printing topless photographs of Kate taken while the couple were on a private holiday. After six people were convicted of charges relating to the taking and publication of the images, a Paris court awarded William and Kate more than 100,000 euros in damages in 2017.

I don't know if they had any press office support but they did take legal action.

I do think the Palace have decades of experience of things dying down in press if ignored and given no oxygen of publicity with just occasional statements to counter and then occasionally taking legal action.

I thought Harry's security for the coronation will be paid for by the palace. He won't have to pay for his own I dont think. His own only for private trips. Same as when he attended the Queen's funeral. The security would have been arranged by the palace.

Littleroseseverywhere · 14/04/2023 10:59

This must be the oddest thread I’ve ever read. Literally. Two posters seem to be such complete and utter super fans if I was harry or Meghan I’d be concerned, I’m sure even their closest friends don’t treat like them like they are absolute gods.

BlackFriday · 14/04/2023 10:59

If, as has been surmised, he is really going to just fly in, go to Westminster Abbey, then fly out again, he won't need security for very long anyway.

I hope his ill-advised Taliban comments don't come back to bite him (and others) though.
