No surprise he's coming on his own to the coronation.

@MarshaBradyo no I do not like Meghan any much but what is evident is evident.

She brings glamour and I would have watched it to see other people’s reaction. Did you see how the people in the Church were craning their necks to look at her when she walked down the aisle during the las Commonwealth Service or whatever it was.

Meghan is hugely important and indeed she is history making. Why else would the UK media go wild with anxiety and column inches, panel discussions, books, etc?

Meghan OWNS the U.K and the whole world knows it.

This made me laugh

Not sure about your last line there

But no I can’t say I feel the same

Whaeanui · 12/04/2023 21:14

OWNS?? That’s a bit much 😂 why would she even want to? There’s defending and then there’s…. this

BlackFriday · 12/04/2023 21:18

"Meghan OWNS the U.K and the whole world knows it."

That is, by quite some margin, the funniest thing I've read on here in a long time.

Meghan is an extremely powerful woman in terms of setting and sticking to her boundaries.

There is no conceivable reason why Meghan should show reverence to the British Royal Family. A huge swathe of the British population don’t care for the Royal Family either.

I would have watched the coronation if Meghan was going to be there. Now, I’m definitely not interested. Let’s face it, the current crop are dull and boring. No major star could be bothered.

Why would Meghan inconvenience herself for something that a substantial proportion of the population think is nonsense?

The history in the making is the very visible decline of the Royal family, where the daughter-in-law of the king snubs his invitation as not being worth her bother.

powerful - you mean inflexible? She really isn't powerful in any real sense, is she though?

"Why would Meghan inconvenience herself for something that a substantial proportion of the population think is nonsense?"

I very much doubt that that thought has even entered M's mind. 😂

M will not come because she knows she is unwelcome and she likes to bask in popularity. That would not have been the scenario. I would imagine that underneath she is not happy that H is going. I am surprised that H is going actually. His teeth will be well and truly gritted having to watch Camilla being crowned.

Whaeanui · 12/04/2023 21:23

@PollyThePixie really? Did you really need to make that nasty comment about Princess Diana?

PollyThePixie · 12/04/2023 21:25

I feel for bath William and Harry having to be part of it all things considered.

Whaeanui · 12/04/2023 21:25

@MarshaBradyo oh I think it is brave, considering the animosity towards him in his family and royal fans, I wouldn’t do it.

You seem to have a very odd idea of "history making" - we could say for example that Hitler was that . No one is looking at M at an occasion to see what outfit she is wearing - they are looking to see what her face and H's look like - are they smiling? Are they miserable? The media have devoted column inches to many infamous people.

It wasn’t nasty.

I was a fan of Diana.

And as a grandma it’s something I always remind my grandchildren about.

greyhairnomore · 12/04/2023 21:27

Does anyone really care ?

Serenster · 12/04/2023 21:28

Was super keen to claim the titles of Prince and Princess though, that were only available to her children because she is the daughter in law of the king. At best, that’s a mixed message.

Whenharrymetsmelly · 12/04/2023 21:29

kirinm · 12/04/2023 15:36

What trouble has she caused? Harry's book has caused more issues than anything Meghan has done yet she still gets the blame for everything.

This is actually a good point, and it was her who was subjected to all the racism and negative press. If people stopped for a minute and put themselves in her shoes, how much hate could one really take. It's not surprising they left.

Sudeko · 12/04/2023 21:29

Nobody on here has a clue as to why she is not attending. Whatever the reason is, it will have been well thought through and in her own best interests.

That's good! Plus, the children are in the same age group

ThefourseasonsFrankie · 12/04/2023 21:31

If it is all about popularity and being welcomed, then Charles and Camilla should stay home. Meghan never had eggs thrown at her and the boos and jeers Charles, Camilla, William and Kate have been subjected to are things Meghan never experienced.

Meghan seems to be doing just fine in the World’s most powerful economy and she is popular across the globe. Why on earth would she feel bothered by a lack of popularity in the UK? This hasn’t affected her success. Her podcast and whatever else she does seems to top British list. So who is making her so successful in her business endeavours on this island of ours. Why do those who hate her make her do popular with their constant going ins about a woman in California who they rarely see?

Meghan is powerful. I guess you’ll tell me Camilla or Kate is powerful? Who do you think is more likely to be an inspiration for young women? Please, enter the real world outside this dying idea of a monarchy being an admirable institution.

Meghan said no. She is just one of many who snubbed this ridiculous and expensive, out of touch carryon.

Tbh I thought either he comes alone or they don’t come at all, I always thought it more likely he comes alone, as more material needs to be gathered for the next book, documentary, etc.

I expect he will cut a lonely figure on the day.

That's a sad thought because I expect he will be thinking 'That should be my mum getting crowned.'

Sudeko · 12/04/2023 21:32

People from both camps still getting carried away with their justification for Meghan not attending when they don't have a clue.

Viviennemary · 12/04/2023 21:33

I think it will be difficult for Archie to mix with his cousins if he hardly ever sees them. And with Meghan having nothing to do with her own family Archie and Lilibet will have no relatives. No cousins no aunts no uncles bit sad really.

CathyorClaire · 12/04/2023 21:35

Eugenie shares some reservations as Fergie is quite perceptive in general

The same Eugenie as the ingenuous recipient of a £25k payment into her bank account from an alleged fraudster and the same Fergie who had more listed numbers than Andrew in Epstein's little black book?

Arf.

It is their birthright. If it was not given, the Royal Family would have cemented their reputation for being racist.

If she or Harry wants them to use it, why shouldn’t they?

All this title, balcony, protocol nonsense makes the Royal family sound so ridiculous and outdated.

The most hilarious is the fight about who is or isn’t on a balcony to look out at the adoring nations who pay for their royal homes (aka royal council houses).

I think I read that only 245 street parties will be held. During the jubilee there was something like 20,000. History indeed.

It is sad. But in todays world people are very often brought up 1000’s of miles away from any of their family and are strangers to each other. They won’t be alone in this and they’ll probably make their own family from friends they meet along the way. I see it all the time.

I don’t think anyone cares as much about this as they did the jubilee.

Eveyone knew the jubilee was a goodbye and after covid an absolute excuse for time together.

i am going to stay home and watch it but it isn’t as big as last year.
