It wasn't behind a pay wall for me.
I also don't think it was actually that bad on Meghan.
To do that, she worked hard in high school and college, struggled to make it in Hollywood, aggressively courted press attention as a B-list cable TV actor and crafted narratives about her life that are not necessarily aligned with “reality.” Grigoriadis agreed that the latter is a very Hollywood thing to do.
They all do this - actors celebs - present their past in best way they can and embellish their anecdotes not just in Hollywood - and I thought everyone knew this.
Hollywood is chocked full of nepo babies insisting they made it on their own and connections meant nothing - if you don't have those kind of connections you will have to hustle and work harder and court the press more - I think this is more about them looking down on someone without those connections.
Grigoriadis said Meghan isn’t “a psychopath,” but she said it’s her “hunch” that there is something off about “all of them” — meaning Meghan and her family.
Again this read to me as British as a dig at the family background - money and status or lack - though could also refer to need to air dirty laundry in public and need drag each other down.
Mostly, the tabloids were curious about the new woman in Harry’s life and were happy to sell newspapers by playing up the romance, she said.
That was my experience of situation being in UK.
Certainly, the tone changed after Meghan and Harry married, with stories starting to pop up about “tiara-gate” and either Meghan or Kate making the other cry before Meghan’s wedding, Grigoriadis reported in Vanity Fair.
I wonder how much of this was stories leaking from disgruntled palace staff and how much was Piers Morgan who she fell out with and how much was normal build them up and tear them down tabloids always engage in.
I don't disagree with end bit about their attitude to the media - not to say they haven't got legitimate complaints from some sections but their antics detract from those and with better PR in the first place I don't think they'd be in the mess they are now with the press.
