How do you feel about this development?

I, personally, find some of it a bit embarrassing (the coronation), so I did not watch it. (I recorded it, to watch later, but never have).

Wouldn't worry.

Private Eye summed it up nicely:

Prince Andrew BACK in the royal fold

Those who said Andrew is not "back" in the "royal fold" because he never left are absolutely right. Interesting to see Kate grinning away in the back as William drove Andrew to church yesterday.

First we were told that it was William who insisted that Andrew be stripped of everything.

Then we were told that Kate found walking with Meghan after the Queen's funeral to be "the hardest thing she had ever done", and that she insisted that if Meghan came to the Coronation, she would have to "sit at the back of the Abbey."

She seems very happy to sit in the back of the car with Andrew. I guess that's not the hardest thing she has ever done.

Novella4 · 28/08/2023 07:50

They really are showing us who they are

So royalists . Let’s hear your explanation of why Andrew is yet again being deliberately publicly supported .
Or will it be tumbleweed , as usual.
‘private’ event is it? Won’t wash.

And yes @BadgerB , I’m angry and disgusted by the Windsors. So should anyone be - if they actually looked beyond the gilt and feathers.
Your explanation that all the trappings the ‘royals’ flaunt should be ignored because they are just rich people , is just ill informed .

Roussette · 28/08/2023 08:32

Of course Andrew is in the royal fold. He never went anywhere. He might not be in the public eye at the moment, but he would give anything to be performing duties again. The public will not accept it, which gives Charles and William a let out.

Andrew will not be moving out of Royal Lodge, he will continue to behind-the-scenes fight to get back security which would give him more freedom. His family will continue to embrace him in private like the recent pictures show.

He is up at Balmoral with them. I actually don't have a problem with that. They are his family after all. If they choose to gloss over his actions, that's their problem.

LizzieSiddal · 28/08/2023 09:28

I don’t have a problem with him being with his family. I do have a problem with the Wales being in a car with him when they know full well the photos will be looked at by millions.

They really are showing us who they are. Most of the British public, especially the younger generation not put up with this nonsense.

Wow. Indeed, they are showing us exactly who and what, they are. Couldn't bear to share a plane with Harry, found walking anywhere near Meghan horrendous, but so super close to Uncle Andrew. What a disgrace. Utterly disgusting.

Samcro · 28/08/2023 09:44

so true. shows what they really think.
I was annoyed that PA got to play dress up at the coronation, yet H who has done nothing on the scale PA has, got shoved at the back in civvies.

vera99 · 28/08/2023 10:15

Beyond disgusting that they are happy you to be seen in public with him. "For they that sleep with dogs, shall rise with fleas." They really are laughing at us now what with a 45% pay increase, their musical houses and lack of public interest at their few and far between appearances, oh and Camilla's dinner companions that feel free to chuck ordure in the way of H&M thinking it is both cool and funny.

FinnRussell · 28/08/2023 10:21

Well fairly clear on the Wales' morals on this. Really bad move to show solidarity with Andrew. William seems more and more out of touch.

Serenster · 28/08/2023 10:36

I don’t have a problem with him being with his family. I do have a problem with the Wales being in a car with him when they know full well the photos will be looked at by millions.

If you don’t have a problem with him being with a family (going to church, approaching the anniversary of the head of the family’s death - if anyone has a problem with that they are idiots in my opinion) then why do you have a problem with a family member giving him a lift to church?

Personally I am very curious as to how it came about, but it’s been clear for ages that despite what people here would like dictate that this family do, Andrew is not a pariah within it. That’s one hundred present their choice to make. What kind of person says “I’ll be civil to you in private but treat you like an outcast in public so I look better”? I’d think very badly of someone who behaved like that, frankly. Andrew hopefully will never again have a public role, but I’m not vengeful enough to think he should be in Coventry for the rest of his life. In reality people don’t behave like that (outside of fantasy).

Roussette · 28/08/2023 10:36

Yes, very true. Why in god's name could Andrew not have been in a different car.

Increasingly, optics don't seem to matter. They do what they want when they want.
All of them.

Serenster · 28/08/2023 10:37

Increasingly, optics don't seem to matter.

Behaving in a craven manner because it has good optics is a pretty shallow way to live, surely?

AnnunciataZ · 28/08/2023 10:38

Who is advising the Waleses on PR now? Really poor optics but it's ok, schools go back in a week so they'll release some shots of the kids' first day and everyone will get distracted and forget about this.

Serenster · 28/08/2023 10:39

They'll release some shots of the kids' first day

Unlikely, since none of the children are having their very first day of school this year (the only time they do a photo shoot), but we’ll see.

Samcro · 28/08/2023 10:40

he could have gone to church out of the "public" eye , traveling with the POW means he was seen.
if anyone can't see that is bad...........

Rosiem2808 · 28/08/2023 10:41

Has Andrew actually been found guilty of anything?

Serenster · 28/08/2023 10:45

Rosiem2808 · 28/08/2023 10:41

Has Andrew actually been found guilty of anything?

No. He was galactically stupid in associating and continuing to associate with Epstein, and clearly is arrogant and thinks he’s Christmas - but he’s not the only man in the world who falls into either of those categories of course. Posters on MN think he should essentially live in solitary confinement for the rest fo his life, however.

CathyorClaire · 28/08/2023 10:45

I recall getting slated on here for suggesting Willy driving to Balmoral with Andrew riding shotgun the day the queen died wasn't the greatest look especially when a 'cavalcade' of cars was reported.

Here we are again without even the slim excuse of all budging up a bit to get there in a hurry.

They've been supporting the sleazy buffoon on the down low all year seamlessly picking up from where mummy left off.

LizzieSiddal · 28/08/2023 10:48

@Serenster He was galactically stupid in associating and continuing to associate with Epstein,

You forgot to say that he’s lied about the timings of these meetings, including in the Newsnight interview. He’s not just “stupid”, he’s a liar who thinks the public will lap it up. The fact the other Royals are ok with that, tells me everything I need to know about how the royals view the public.

I hope your view prevails in KP because the wider British people just won't wash with this. They may have general indifference to the RF or maybe think they are a good thing but don't want to dig into the arguments for a Republic and why such things matter. Own goals like this help our cause, and like with the Lionesses and William débâcle it's the drip, drip of scandal and lack of attention to public service that will do for them in the end.

CathyorClaire · 28/08/2023 10:52

You forgot to say that he’s lied about the timings of these meetings, including in the Newsnight interview.

And used the public service broadcaster paid for by the nation to do it.

Err no cooperate fully with the FBI and maybe make a statement under caution and then let's take it from there. As he was so keen to put the record straight with Emily Maitlis all those years ago and has suggested that he will.

Serenster · 28/08/2023 10:57

I thought that galactically stupid and arrogant probably covered the Emily Maitlis interview too, LizzieSiddal, but yes, I’ll give you that. 😀 He’s not the only liar in the Royal family, obviously, either.

(on a more serious note - people are complicated. I can well imagine attitudes of the royal family members towards Andrew vary considerably, from love and denial of his shortcomings from his daughters to frustration and irritations and even rage from others. But he’s still someone they have needed to see and interact with over the last couple of years as both the Queen and Phillip became ill and died, and had funerals and all sorts. Those kind of life events can often be bridge-building events - or at the very least, if you’ve managed to put aside your animosity towards someone as part of shared grief, it becomes less reasonable to pick it up again. I don’t think it’s reasonable for people here to be saying Andrew should be entirely cast out in the cold by his family for his past sin, and then judging them (hard) for not doing so. For many reasons, not just because that would only show them to be the dysfunctional kind of family that many like to accuse them of being, because it’s not very Christian, and because it’s not very human).

Yes, he lied about having nothing to do with JE after Deceember 2010 and said so on the carcrash interview. Treating us like idiots.

"during that walk in the park we decided that we would part company and I left, I think it was the next day and to this day I never had any contact with him from that day forward." Hmm
