The royal family

Do you all find Charles, Camilla, William and Kate boring?

I am genuinely interested, Because every single post I have seen about one of these four ends up getting derailed by Harry and Meghan.
Try it. Post about one of them and within a small number of posts people will be talking about Harry and Meghan. It happens again and again and again.
So do find these 4 really boring then? Or are you just so fascinated about Harry and Meghan you want to talk about them whenever you can?

Some posters think that if the Sussex think the royal family is so bad, why do they want to keep the titles and give them to their children. I can see the logic in that thinking.

But again that is the parents decision not the RF.

What are you talking about? Who are these people on Mumsnet who object to them using their titles?

Well, you, for one On this very thread. Happy to be corrected but you seem angry about it?

Howsimplywonderful · 22/03/2023 12:23

The RF said ‘that the Sussex’s have now made their wishes known’ and we will update the site to reflect it type of statement

that seems pretty transparent.

Roussette · 22/03/2023 12:24

Some posters just hate that they are now Prince and Princess. That is obvious on threads, in comments, posts etc.

Correction: they have the titles. They were not "given" the titles by their parents. Nor were they "given" the titles by the Royal Family any more than Charles was "given" the title of King.

The George whatshisface Letters Patent makes them automatic HRHs. They can be taken away, through another Letters Patent whatnot whatnot. Not even Charles would be so vindictive as to do that now.

Of course you say different, you love Kate with a fervour. So saying Meghan does well at a podium giving a speech, indirectly, to you, is a criticism of Kate. When it really isn't.

As I said... Kate has strengths. Public speaking is not one of them.

I don't love Kate 'with a fervour'. I don't care if Kate is not an inspiring speaker.
Meghan's propensity for word salad is well known. Empty and meaningless rhetoric.

Well just about everything can have its detractors

But I think "hate" is very much a minority view,. More bafflement as the choice sees to contradict views previously expressed by the couple, especially in allying the US-based DC to an institution they criticise so much

I couldn't care less as it doesn't affect my life in the slightest.
You seemed pretty angry all over these threads. What was with your earlier rant about the royal family removing foreign objects from their machine?

Have a blessed day 🙂

Howsimplywonderful · 22/03/2023 12:28

no roussette some posters find it hypocritical for the Sussex’s to say the royal family is so bad we want to get out ( but we want to keep the titles) which is their second stance after the half in half out stance was rejected

the hypocrisy really annoys some people. Some people really dislike hypocrisy

MrsMaxDeWinter · 22/03/2023 12:32

They did not say they want to get out of the royal family.

How can they they are related to all its members???

They said they wanted to step back as working Royals, and be financially independent while supporting the then Queen.

They left the family business. Harry is still Charles's son etc. So yes, they are very much a part of the Royal Family. Just like Eugenie and Beatrice and Zara who are part of the family but don't work for it.

Well.... the poster said this "What are you talking about? Who are these people on Mumsnet who object to them using their titles?"

Clearly untrue. Lots of objections. Evident on this thread and many others.

Howsimplywonderful · 22/03/2023 12:44

Sometimes giving the context is helpful which is what I tried to do.

You are confusing objections to having their titles with objections to using their titles.
People can legitimately object to the former but the objections are pointless without the willingness of the royal family to take action to remove them (which they haven't done).
There is no point to objecting to them using their titles when they are legitimately there for the taking. It never stopped their mum and dad.

You can "object" (which can extend, it seems, to making any comment at all) with motives other than hatred. Such as bafflement or bemusement

Okaay.... so posters don't mind them having the titles as long as they don't use them?

I looked at the thread when the titles weere announced and there was a lot of anger about them having the titles. Or them announcing they had the titles.

Do excuse me if I have this wrong. I'm genuinely confused!

Not that it matters really. They have the titles. Twas always going to be.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 22/03/2023 13:01

What baffles and bemuses me is that people were slamming Meghan about not following protocol etc, but when she does follow protocol and addresses her daughter by her birthright title, all sorts of bafflement and bemusement wafts into the air. You would almost think she wore dark nail polish, or didn't wear hosiery, or, worst of all, opened her own car door!

Why not rejoice that she is following protocol at last? Royalists LOVE protocol after all.

VixenTodd · 22/03/2023 13:27

Picking the good bits for money is not following protocol. People can see right through it. Lets not pretend.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 22/03/2023 13:55

That is true @EdithWeston it is possible to object without being hateful.

How is it "picking the good bits for money" for the children to have titles under the same convention that made Harry, Eugenie and Beatrice HRHs?

How have the titles of the Sussex children been "picked for money"?

What monetary gain have their parents made from the children's automatic titles, conferred on them since the Queen died six months ago?

Incidentally, do you object to Sarah Ferguson using her title, the Duchess of Yorks, to sell books? If not, why not?

inkworks273 · 22/03/2023 14:04

Yeah they're boring. Kate has zero charisma. I can understand why they felt so threatened by Harry and Meghan.

LOL. Kate is far more popular in UK and even in America. She tops all the polls. Engagement on social media posts are far more with positive comments for Kate. Harry and Meghan are being made fun of left and right. So clearly many more people don't agree with you.... Delusion

Roussette · 22/03/2023 14:11

Exactly. 62 books under Duchess of York title, at the last count.

Sarah Ferguson is not slagging the royal family for the last three years in books, tv series and interviews. How bad they are, how racist (oh wait he took that back LOL). Can't you really see the difference. It's hypocritical.

I think nobody cares that they left. If that is better for you etc. you go ahead. But if you don't agree with the system stay out of it then.

So by this logic, it is okay to trade off royal titles as long as you don't slag off the Royal Family.

Meaning it will be perfectly fine for Princess Lili and Prince Archie to monetise their titles if they ever wish to. They can barely speak, so have not had the opportunity to slag off the Royal Family and they live so far away they won't have much contact with them in the future.

Good to hear.
