The royal family

Do you all find Charles, Camilla, William and Kate boring?

I am genuinely interested, Because every single post I have seen about one of these four ends up getting derailed by Harry and Meghan.
Try it. Post about one of them and within a small number of posts people will be talking about Harry and Meghan. It happens again and again and again.
So do find these 4 really boring then? Or are you just so fascinated about Harry and Meghan you want to talk about them whenever you can?

Yes. Is that a problem ? Grin
I know the meaning of the quote if that's what you mean!

I thought there was a problem but, as you tell me you know the meaning of the quote, there obviously isn't and I've must have got it wrong.
Please accept my apologies.

it’s upto the parents (like Edward did) to make the decision

The fact it was updated straight away on the royal site shows it was exaggerated drama

Except it wasn't updated straight away. It was updated six months later, after the Sussexes pretty much embarrassed the Palace into updating the website and confirming the titles.

You would think they would have updated them along with the others, if only to prove that Meghan was wrong in her Oprah interview. But we now know she was right.

No it told that meghan and harry lied AGAIN. It was up to h and m to say if they wanted to use them. They thought about it and have now said they wanted it.

Only ones who should be embarrassed are h and m. After all they said and did about the monarchy they turn around and say give me the titles from same institution they were trashing for three years.

Switchwitch · 22/03/2023 11:47

Yes far too stage managed. I want a ridiculous monarchy that buy crystal carriages and get found drunk trying to race them down the mall at 3am. That's what they're for surely? To envy to gossip to be outrageous. They are the nation's soap opera.

I also think they should be required to wear crowns and those cape things at all times, and yes I do realise they're heavy. Deal with it.

Plitvice · 22/03/2023 11:50

Based on what they wrote and said themselves during interviews, why would it have been obvious to the RF that H&M wanted those titles? It certainly wasn't obvious to the general public who was confused as to why they were firing broadsides and also using titles for their own income-generating projects at the same time.
If the RF had updated the website immediately then Sussex fans would have said 'Look how they are jumping the gun, trapping those kids within their gilded cage and undermining and contradicting their parents' own words'.

Of course you say different, you love Kate with a fervour. So saying Meghan does well at a podium giving a speech, indirectly, to you, is a criticism of Kate. When it really isn't.

As I said... Kate has strengths. Public speaking is not one of them.

Howsimplywonderful · 22/03/2023 11:52

The whole titles thing was played out like an episode of the Kardasians.

Nothing turned into a drama storyline

MrsMaxDeWinter · 22/03/2023 11:53

I don't think you understand how these hereditary things work.

Just as as Charles did not say Give me the King title, A and L's titles are automatic entitlements.

They are not given, or earned, or requested.

The parents can choose to use them or not use them. But they did not say give us the titles because the kids had the titles from the moment their grandfather became entitled to be called king.

Come one you know exactly what I meant.

I know exactly how it works. Sophie and Edward had the same decision to make. They decided to let their children make the choice when they turned eighteen. Their eldest daughter is now 19 years old and has opted not to use it. And they are working royals who never criticized monarchy for three years straight.

Harry and Meghan have decided to use them from now on. After all they said and did.

They keep hanging on those titles with both hands. It's pathetic and hypocritical.

What are you talking about? The Queen died in September, which is when Lili and Archie became HRH.

Harry and Meghan were in the UK at the time, If BH had wanted to consult them, they could have done it then or in subsequent months.

The only thing either has said about the titles for their kids in their own words was in the Oprah interview, where it was clear they were unhappy about the potential removal of what they thought was an entitlement once Charles becamee King.

In any event why so angry about automatic titles for two little kids not even 5? Just why?

Roussette · 22/03/2023 12:04

I can't imagine anyone saying that. Literally, no one.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 22/03/2023 12:04

They keep hanging on those titles with both hands.

If Harry stopped calling himself Prince Harry, would he automatically stop being the King's son? Would he no longer be Diana's son? Or Queen Elizabeth's grandson?

Genuinely?

Plitvice · 22/03/2023 12:05

If their entitlement was automatic then they could have issued the statement immediately confirming their understanding of their children's birthright rather than delaying six months.

I'm not understanding. What is the matter with that? They waited for Lili's christening. Sounds quite normal to me.

Well, that was their choice so no need for any anger from or on behalf of either side.

Yes, they could have done. But they chose not to

Precisely.

Especially as they said explicitly that the titles would not be in everyday use (school, etc) but would only be used on formal occasions.

Like, oh, I don't know, Christenings perhaps, and following the royal protocol of naming people in the LoS?

I mean, if the very low rent Lady Victoria Hervey can insist on the use of her title on GB interviews where she defends the Duke of York, named always with his title, are people really begrudging seeing these kids listed with their titles in the LoS as it appears on the Royal website?

Really, Mumsnet? You are happy to "prince" Andrew but Archie and Lili are where you draw the line? 🙄

Plitvice · 22/03/2023 12:15

What are you talking about? Who are these people on Mumsnet who object to them using their titles?

I can however see people saying it would be wrong of the Palace to have acted before the parents made their wishes known. Because which of the titles their DC are entitled to are actually put into use is a decision for the parents (just like when they decided not to use either Earl of Dumbarton or Lord/Lady at the time of their birth)

It would have been wrong for the Palace to pre-empt the Sussex decision

Are you joking?! The outrage that Archie and Lili will be Prince and Princess is pretty evident on a thread or threads in the RF section. I won't link it because it is a TAAT but it's there

Why do you assume the Palace would not have consulted the parents before making the update? They were right there in the UK? And it could have been accompanied by a short statement.

"Following consultations with the Duke and Duchesss of Sussex, today BP updated the LoS to include the titles of Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in line with the letters Patent of bla bla bla." End .

Is transparency really that hard for the Royal family?
