What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

I feel like that too, it is repulsive. Taking someone else’s identity like that.

Can you not save your ire for something truly worthy of it? Harry was reputed to be the Queen's favourite (as was Andrew!) so if you really respected HM you would also respect her grandson's wishes to immortalise that name and not weaponise it in a general Harry hateathon.

Very shit not to have any of your immediate family attending your babies Christening.

Probably because they would sell everything you said to the press and twist it to suit their own agenda. I wouldn't want to attend an event with two backstabbing judases either.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/03/2023 13:45

lest we forget the Kaiser was the cousin of Queen Victoria

What, as well as her grandson? Jeremy Kyle would have a field day with that one 😆

He was George V's cousin.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 08/03/2023 13:45

I guess it depends on whether or not you get on with said family. Plenty of people on MN are NC with family for perfectly justified reasons.

GiesAGonkYaDobber · 08/03/2023 13:45

Who married a member of the SS. Harry's 'crimes' pale into insignificance in comparison. The point being that this "Family of the Nation" is pretty grubby in many respects once you open up the bonnet and look inside.

Another one clinging on to their truth.

MarshaMelrose · 08/03/2023 13:45

I think it's pretty shitty that not one of the crap four made an effort to come, yet they expect Harry to jump when he's called for the big Corona thingy.

That's ridiculous. Who travels half way round the world just for a Christening?! I wouldn't. Harry isn't expected to attend anything. He's politely invited but it's his choice whether he goes or not. I'm sure Charles would love to see his son. I'm pretty sure most of the others would rather he didn't bother.

I’m totally anti royal but Jesus Christ, this was the funeral of his sister, her husband and their children including a new born baby born during an air crash where they all perished. He is clearly a teenage boy there. Germany wasn’t at war when that funeral took place. I actually think your post is in really poor taste. His sister was the closest thing he had to a mother when his own mother had been shipped off to an asylum and their father abandoned them, after they’d already fled Greece after being deposed. I am totally anti monarchy but it’s a bit rich people crowing about generational trauma when surely Phil must have been the OG of it.

Yes if anyone deserved some sympathy for their childhood I think Philip did.

Rinoachicken · 08/03/2023 13:42

I don’t understand the logic - to title and tie the children to a family they don’t know, to a country they’ve never lived in and to an institution that their parents despise? Just why?

MONEY! They are boring , have no relevance and are unable to fund their very lavish lifestyle on their own merits. They have to cash in on the RF connection to keep making money.

SenecaFallsRedux · 08/03/2023 13:46

He is a bishop. It is the same

Not sure of your point, but in the US the title "archbishop" is almost always associated with the Catholic Church because the Episcopal Church that is part of the Anglican Communion does not have archbishops.

JenniferBarkley · 08/03/2023 13:46

Buckingham Palace has said the royal website will "be updated in due course" to reflect the title.

From the BBC article.

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/03/2023 13:47

Genevieva · 08/03/2023 13:26

@JenniferBarkley A lot of people think that, but it is not how Letters Patent work. I can't be bothered to explain why - it is a rather technical and boring area of law and I happen to think the whole thing is a meaningless house of cards anyway - but legally they are not 'Prince' or 'Princess' unless and until King Charles specifically declares them as such. When the Royal Family website changes then they will have officially have use of the titles.

Assuming this happens and as it looks as though Princess has been registered as the first of 3 names, would that not effectively make her Princess Princess Lilibet?

I’d give up on this one if I were you. As pp have said, it was his sister, who had practically brought him up, he was sixteen at the time and we were not at war with Germany. It was not know what atrocities the Nazi’s were about to commit and most of the world was keen to keep peace having just gone through one world war). And as pp have also said, Philip spent WW2 fighting said Nazis

stillavid · 08/03/2023 13:47

I could update that website in about 2 mins. There is definitely some game playing going on.

miri1985 · 08/03/2023 13:47

Richard Palmer has talked to the Palace and they apparently will be referred to as Prince and Princess

If I was from a toxic, racist, bullying uncaring family I would do everything to ensure my child was not involved with them in anyway but then again I can’t merch my family for millions of dollars. Sophie and Edward’s children seem to be doing just fine without the Prince and Princess titles which is their ‘birthright’ and as for being brought up in privacy in LA? Don’t make me laugh.

Weirdly - they probably get more privacy in LA than the UK. There are very strict rules there for paps, including the types of lenses they can use. You don't see "stars" unless they want to be seen.

The UK is grim for mortals although Wills and Kate do a great job of keeping the children (and themselves) dark.

That's the classy move, don't make a big deal of it.

stillavid · 08/03/2023 13:48

I wish there were photos of the christening as I would like to see what people wore as I am superficial and like Meghan's style.

After reading your posts, I have a completely different take on who's grubby when you lift up the bonnet! 🙄

lazycats · 08/03/2023 13:48

People's obsession with this couple are weird. No matter how much they protest they definitely enjoy getting wound up by them.

Lets not forget Eugenie, Peter, Louise were also the Queen's favourites. Apologies to any other favourite children/grandchildren I've left out. I reckon she preferred the Corgis.

letthemalldoone · 08/03/2023 13:43

Harry is actually Henry.

Yes I know. The point I was making was they went far enough to use the Queen's private and somewhat unique name. I doubt they'd want to shorten it to the more widespread Lily instead of Lili - which is the literal short form and, to top it off, more unique than Lily.

'Hen' doesn't go quite well for Henry though.

stillavid · 08/03/2023 13:49

Now that the Sussexes have expressed a preference via page six 😉

You're not aware of Prince Philip's war record, then.

Don't you worry. There'll be a whole ton iof photos...on the Netflix special.
