What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

Honestly! What is wrong with you?

The complete bigotry aimed at anyone who has ancestors that weren’t born in Britain is astounding!

It was his sister funeral and he was 16.

And it still doesn’t make the RF German or make ‘German’ an insult. Or mean that you are only British if you entire line of ancestors were born here.

What do you get out of telling people you can’t be British unless all your ancestors were born here?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/03/2023 13:14

German isn’t an insult and you are questioning the citizenship of anyone with a near ancestor who isn’t British. So you can have a joke

Apparently when it's certain royals it's not racist to sneer at someone's supposed ethnicity and descent.

Yes, Prince Philip always got lots of that.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/03/2023 13:37

That 'Nazi funeral' was the funeral of his sister and he was a 16 year old. Are we judging people for the funerals they attend and who their siblings marry now? and it was 1937, when Fascism was regarded as a defence against Bolshevism - people didn't know about Fascism but after 1917 they knew a lot about Bolsehvism and didn't like it. As Nancy Mitford (also a Fascist supporter pre WW2 said) ' We didn't know about what was happening in Germany then.'

I thought they wanted freedom from the toxicity of the royal family...

Freedom doesn't appear to be very profitable...

BentleyRhythmAce · 08/03/2023 13:38

Cashing in on the family they supposedly hate.

Thank you, that is fascinating.

So Harry was telling the truth when he said Charles had told him his children would never have titles?
And everyone calling them liars were wrong?

And the "German" thing comes from Prince Albert. The current king's great great great grandfather. One of 32 of them. 4 of my ggg grandparents were Irish. This does not make me Irish.

The "Germans" thing is most definitely used by lazy people as an insult. It's never "bunch of Greeks" which is possible more accurate, given Philip's background.

Wouldn’t be accurate in Philips’s case as his family was Danish-German.

I'm still shuddering at the, frankly, stalkerish use of the late Queen's incredibly intimate nickname, Lilibet, never mind princess. Horrible.

Eyerollcentral · 08/03/2023 13:39

ScentOfAMemory · 08/03/2023 13:31

@Eyerollcentral did you ask Charles and Diana why Henry is called Harry?

There was rumour back when they got married and everything was OK, that Diana, when she became Queen would probably be known as Frances as Diana wasn't considered royal enough.

Likewise Kate very sharply became Catherine.

His name on his birth certificate is Henry though, that’s his proper name. Lilibet is a nickname to begin with chosen solely to piggy back on Liz’s fame. To name a child a nickname and then shorten it again is mad and fairly transparent. It’s common for kings and queens to take a regal name when crowned though, that’s not unusual at all. There was talk of Charles changing his name when king because of the association with the previous Charles’.

I feel like that too, it is repulsive. Taking someone else’s identity like that.

StormzyinaTCup · 08/03/2023 13:40

Good grief, they really are the gift that keeps on giving!

sydneysunset · 08/03/2023 13:40

Wonder whether announcing this on International Womens Day was deliberate?
What was it that Meghan said to Gloria Steinem, “linked not ranked”? 😬

Her name was always Catherine, she didn't become Catherine.

Fifi0000 · 08/03/2023 13:40

If your family were so abusive you would want your children to have nothing to do with them no titles . It's bizarre I don't believe them at all.

themessygarden · 08/03/2023 13:40

Interesting to realise there was no leaking from William and Kate or Charles and Camilla that they had received an invitation to a Christening and were unable to attend. They managed to keep that to themselves.

ScentOfAMemory · 08/03/2023 13:32

His sister's funeral.

Who married a member of the SS. Harry's 'crimes' pale into insignificance in comparison. The point being that this "Family of the Nation" is pretty grubby in many respects once you open up the bonnet and look inside.

OutOfChocolate · 08/03/2023 13:42

Very shit not to have any of your immediate family attending your babies Christening.

Rinoachicken · 08/03/2023 13:42

I don’t understand the logic - to title and tie the children to a family they don’t know, to a country they’ve never lived in and to an institution that their parents despise? Just why?

Of course it was. Not much inspirational about it really, I'm sure rather than a plastic title their children would prefer to see their relatives (the ones harry was close to as a child and their children) and have the choice to be a part of royal type stuff. But no, their selfish parents burnt those bridges and are now shilling them for their documentaries or to release news stories to try and keep their relevance up.

Serenster · 08/03/2023 13:42

Like not inviting any of your family to your wedding, you mean?

SighsTheNewWord · 08/03/2023 13:24

I think they actually call her Lili, which begs the question why not just name her Lily??

I'll give it to Meg, she knocked that one out of the park and I'm sure many rf members would be kicking themselves thinking why they didn't use that name. Most probably thought it sacred but Meghan said nope, I'm going to one-up everyone and give my daughter the private name of the Queen. None of this Elizabeth crap that everyone else has. We're going all in.🤣

She can't be Lily when she's Lilibet. It has to be known this is theeee name.

Harry is actually Henry.

His sister's funeral.

And he was 16. Did he get a say?

Monarchy is nonsense. But you can hardly hold a boy of what 10 maybe when his sister married, younger maybe, responsible for whom his sister married???

Pathetic! He was 16 FFS and it was his sister's funeral. He wasn't in the SS and when the war started fought for the Allies against the Nazis but don't let that get in the way of a cheap dig.

Was that Philip's fault? At 16?

And I think he more than made up for it with his wartime service
