What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

Apparently she would look something like this had she lived and would be a frequent visitor to Montecito I'm sure and a more than wonderful nan.

That picture of Diana made me snort. If she was alive now she would be younger than Carole Vorderman! I really don’t think she would have gone down the “absolutely no anti-ageing treatments, not even dying her hair” route…!

Foreversearch · 08/03/2023 21:21

@adrianmolesmole did the Queen give permission? I understood H & M told the Queen their daughter was called Lilibet rather than asking her permission.

@vera99
QE2 never once signed herself "Lilibet Cambridge".
She was known as Lilibet to her close personal family and friends. That's why she's signed that card.
Harry and Meghan have chosen to name their daughter after her, this may suggest that they have no problems with royalty or titles or anything linked to that.

Mainly because she was Princess Elizabeth of York.

She was never a Cambridge

Isn't it a great addition, @Roussette? Trouble is I can whole threads being jammed up with gifs. Or maybe that'll just be my posts. 🤭

Plus the drunk driver and the lack of seatbelt..:did they say if any was more likely the cause of her actual death?

No

It was a narrative verdict, and various factors were mentioned and all factors that were mentioned combined to lead to the death.

amoobaa · 08/03/2023 21:25

I love this moment.

Deary me, if you needed a "horse in this race" to comment on anything related to the royals, these boards would be empty. What's your horse called?

If you knew anything about royal history, and the history of this particular royal, you would know that the name is an intimate one, originating from her own childhood difficulty pronouncing her own name, used only by her parents and grandparents and then her husband. It's therefore incredibly weird that Harry - who has completely trashed the way in which she had led the royal family during his lifetime - would use the name, let alone why Meghan would want to use it, given her complete contempt for the RF. I don't need to pretend insight (it's a matter of record) nor do I need to be related to her to have some empathy for QE2 being simultaneously attacked and having her nickname used by people who appear to hate her - or at least to hate her legacy. I'm not spitting out my tea. I'm thinking about how she must have felt. I feel nothing but sadness for an old lady whose whole life was devoted to doing, what she thought, was the right thing - and being faced with a pair of narcissistic, trolling liars using her pet name.

There's a big difference between commenting on something related to"the royals" and the OTT, over-involved, sputtering with rage comment I was responding to.
Thinking about how she must have felt - honestly, this is cringeworthy.

You're talking about the woman who put up the money to pay the lawyers who facilitated Prince Andrew's thumbing of his nose at the US justice system, and who paid what is rumoured to be in excess of $12m to settle the civil case against him. Not a saint.

Lilibet is a common nickname for Elizabeth, along with countless other diminutives and abbreviations. She didn't invent it.

She's younger than me, and she does look old in that photo in comparison - and am no great shakes! But ageing up never works. I remember they made Elizabeth Taylor into a white-haired grandmother in Giant. She looked gorgeous. She definitely did not look like that at the equivalent age in real life. Lol.

This is so funny. Firstly, she is a true princess, whether you like it or not, it is her birthright by blood, as grandchild to the king.
Secondly, the Q gave permission for Harry to use Lilibet. It's a sweet tribute. But even so, you do realise people can and do choose any name they want for their kids? No name is "stolen", honestly.

The palace did not back up the Sussex claims that they had permission. It was the BBC, not some scurrilous tabloid, that said that their sources informed them that no such permission had been sought. The BBC did not back down when Harry threatened them with legal action. The Sussexes admitted to registering domain names for Lillibet Diana and Lili Diana before she was born. We only have H&M's word for it that permission was sought, and their words don't seem to hold up most of the time.

DuchessOfPort · 08/03/2023 18:13

@SenecaFallsRedux - forgive me for tagging you but can you clarify this? I’ve always been under the impression if you get Princess, you get HRH too.

I’m curious as to if they’re like “we dare to go for Princess Lilibet but we don’t quite dare go the whole hog!”

The letters patent of 1917 specifically mention HRH. So yes, they are entitled to it. I think the question is whether as a matter of practice it should be used for them because their parents do not presently use it.

bizzywiththefizzy · 08/03/2023 21:31

The sad thing is I used to be pretty indifferent to Harry and Meghan but the way they have monetized their time as royals (with family) is just a turn off .
They really have done nothing of note since they arrived in the US . Talentless .

CathyorClaire · 08/03/2023 21:32

Anyone else waiting for the 'Princess On Board' car sticker in the ever- so-many limos, Hummers and just general run of the mill 4x4's Harold seems to have at his disposal?

Maybe just me then 😀

It wasn't a common nn before ER II

I agree, it is sad, but at the heart of it, they are a very toxic family and Harry and Megan would do better all round going no contact.

Now, if only the media would let them do that…but no they continue to stir shit up which Harry always ends up responding to.

But hey, who can blame him, after all they literally hounded his mother off the road and killed her, for a photo.

Yes, @RaspberryBeret1999 , the toxic cycle needs to be broken. I genuinely hope that H & M can get involved with positive causes and leave all this behind.
I don’t feel that’s happened yet, but it could in the future.

There is only one reason M hasn’t ever said who either child’s god mother - it’s called ALL EYES ON ME! M would never ever share the limelight with someone on a big day and also wouldn’t want the godmother to be known unless they are a super a lister. I don’t think she has anywhere near the clout she thinks she has to get someone like that. She doesn’t appear to have any friends

Wow what a load of bitchy nonsense. Derangers have amazing imaginations when it comes to cutting a woman down.

More realistically, the other godparents chose to remain private, as is their right and it was respected by Harry and Meghan.

In the Netflix documentary H said it was explained to him, by saying think of a bicycle chain where each link was a factor, remove one link and the outcome would have been different.

Unsurprisingly, H thought the paps were the link that would have made a difference.

I think the seat belts were the link, all four of the cars occupants made an independent decision on whether or not to buckle up. No conspiracy theory can explain how 3 of the occupants were prevented from putting their seatbelts on.
