What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

There's a big difference between commenting on something related to"the royals" and the OTT, over-involved, sputtering with rage comment I was responding to.
Thinking about how she must have felt - honestly, this is cringeworthy.

You're talking about the woman who put up the money to pay the lawyers who facilitated Prince Andrew's thumbing of his nose at the US justice system, and who paid what is rumoured to be in excess of $12m to settle the civil case against him. Not a saint.

Lilibet is a common nickname for Elizabeth, along with countless other diminutives and abbreviations. She didn't invent it.

If in your world thinking about how somebody feels is cringeworthy, I feel sorry for you.

Pointing to squirrels called Andrew are a bit pathetic. He is not the topic at hand. I didn't call her a saint. Her legacy, for those of us in the UK, goes beyond the antics of Andrew, or druggie racist Harry for that matter.

Please do list all the famous Lilibets! I've never heard the name outside its use by QE2 and the Sussexes. Maybe in the States it's in common use? And if this is the case, why all the hoo-ha over the Sussexes asking permission? They wouldn't need to for a name in common use.

The palace did not back up the Sussex claims that they had permission. It was the BBC, not some scurrilous tabloid, that said that their sources informed them that no such permission had been sought. The BBC did not back down when Harry threatened them with legal action. The Sussexes admitted to registering domain names for Lillibet Diana and Lili Diana before she was born. We only have H&M's word for it that permission was sought, and their words don't seem to hold up most of the time.

Actually it was a bit more than that. The BBC reporter said it was from a palace source. Then Harry came back and said the story was wrong and threatened to sue over it.
Later the BBC reporter came back and said he'd asked the palace again. And the palace was adamant and repeated that the Queen did not know. They'd not have done that without checking with the Queen.
Harry commented no more and did not sue.
So the queen was obviously annoyed. Maybe/maybe not at the name. But definitely at him saying he'd already asked her.

Apparently she would look something like this had she lived and would be a frequent visitor to Montecito I'm sure and a more than wonderful nan.

That picture of Diana made me snort. If she was alive now she would be younger than Carole Vorderman! I really don’t think she would have gone down the “absolutely no anti-ageing treatments, not even dying her hair” route…!

That made me laugh so much. A wealthy woman of 61 who always took care of her appearance would end up looking like she had a 40-a-day habit and washed her hair in Windolene.!

Anyone else waiting for the 'Princess On Board' car sticker in the ever- so-many limos, Hummers and just general run of the mill 4x4's Harold seems to have at his disposal?

Maybe just me then 😀

🤣🤣🤣

Ridemeginger · 08/03/2023 21:59

Thanks for the clarity, @MarshaMelrose

To be fair, Harry may have mistaken a bin for his nan during one of his "therapy" sessions, and therefore may have been thoroughly convinced that he sought permission.

entirelyesspresso · 08/03/2023 22:00

They called her Lilibet after the Queen, without her permission, after calling her family racists. (It's irrelevant how common Lilibet is as a name - she was named after the Queen)

Cashing in on any link they have left, just like Harry always cashed in on Diana's vulnerabilities and Meghan tries to reframe herself as Diana 2.0

It's embarrassing and predictable, they are common users, it's getting boring now.

Wow what a load of bitchy nonsense. Derangers have amazing imaginations when it comes to cutting a woman down.

More realistically, the other godparents chose to remain private, as is their right and it was respected by Harry and Meghan.

I’m certifiably not deranged, the psychiatrist told me so. Why would anyone chose to remain private as a god mother? Aren’t the god parents of all the Wales’ children known? Indeed every other royal child. I’ve several god children, your first duty is to stand up in a chapel and declare you will act as their god parent. It is deeply abnormal for anyone to do that but then say oh don’t actually tell anyone I am their god mother thanks. It is actually not a private role by virtue of the ceremony during which the child is baptised and you become a god parent. I have never heard of any other person who was asked to god mother and decided to keep it a secret. Bonkers idea. Except in the land of the Meghan fans! Does she have any friends? She seems to have dumped all her old ones - I mean that’s only according to them, but let me guess, that’s not true either and I’m just tearing a woman down some more. There is no one on earth or in heaven that I think was or is as wonderful in every way as Meghan fans appear to think Meghan is. Most people recognise others have human frailties. It’s so so so bizarre.

Roussette · 08/03/2023 22:03

Why on earth should the godparents declare they are the godparents? And subject themselves to endless criticism, horrible media, being pulled apart by anyone who fancied doing so... and on here, they would be annihilated.

If I were one of them, I'd ask not to be named.

Yes, @RaspberryBeret1999 , the toxic cycle needs to be broken. I genuinely hope that H & M can get involved with positive causes and leave all this behind.
I don’t feel that’s happened yet, but it could in the future.

What is toxic about the royal family members? Charles and Camilla happily married, Edward and Sophie happily married with what appears to be two well adjusted young adults, despite Andrew being an abomination the Yorks are a close loving family, both daughters married with children, Princess Anne still married and the Tindalls live on her estate, Peter Philips divorced but it appears to have been amicable, William, Kate and the 3 children seem a solid family unit and are close with the Tindalls. What makes this family toxic? What do all these people do that create poison?

In the Netflix documentary H said it was explained to him, by saying think of a bicycle chain where each link was a factor, remove one link and the outcome would have been different.

Unsurprisingly, H thought the paps were the link that would have made a difference.

I think the seat belts were the link, all four of the cars occupants made an independent decision on whether or not to buckle up. No conspiracy theory can explain how 3 of the occupants were prevented from putting their seatbelts on.

Precisely. It was a surprisingly eloquent and at first listen reasonably persuasive turn of phrase from Harry (until you apply any logic to it of course, mainly that Diana and Dodi would probably have survived if they were wearing seatbelts and the driver wasn’t pissed). I would love to know who came up with it because quite obviously it wasn’t Harry.

DuchessOfPort · 08/03/2023 22:07

I wonder if any of Diana’s siblings were there even. Jessica M could be the secret godmother if she hasn’t been dumped. She’s been v discreet so she might not have been and she must be one of the longer standing friends if she has actually made it this far.

Now come on, ginger, to be fair to Harry, all things being equal, and wanting to give a fair representation of what could have happened, I think it's important to remember, it doesn't have to be actually true to be Harry's truth.
I think I'm quoting him accurately there. 😜

Peter Andre and Katie Price’s daughter is a Princess (Princess Tiammii or something) so I guess anyone can call their daughter Princess. I wonder if she will get special treatment when she’s older by unsuspecting establishments abroad.

Charlotte can let us know I guess in ten years time.

"Toxic" is a very lazy word used in abundance here, with no explanation required. 'Dysfunctional' is another.

Would they? Tyler Perry has been quite proud to say he is a god father to both children. Tbh I don’t think he has been hounded about it. It’s deeply weird to take part in a ceremony where you stand before a congregation to promise to be a spiritual guide and friend to a child and then every one is sworn to secrecy about your identity. No amount of people saying it’s totally reasonable to do that is going to make it so. It’s a deeply deeply odd thing to do and runs contrary to the role of a god parent.

As I said, if it were me, I'd choose to keep it private.

Perhaps they choose to remain private, ie, not announced in the press, because they don't want to be chased by the paps and press? And can you blame them? I'm sure people in their circle know who the children's godparents are! Why do you think you need to know?

The rest of your post is just nonsensical blathering.

The they I am referring to is the congregation. Neither christening was without a congregation. Would you really keep it private if you were asked to be a god parent? To any baby or just these special ones? I think if the god parents of the heir to the throne have survived without being mercilessly trolled every day of their lives, the his parents of Harry’s children will too. People are usually proud or at least pleased to be asked to be a god parent.

What other god parent to a royal child has been chased by the paparazzi on the basis of being a god parent??? It’s odd in their circle because usually the names of the god parents of royal children are released. In fact that’s totally normal in every strata of society, have you ever known any one to say I know you’ve seen this woman hold the baby at a font and reject satan but keep it under your hat would you? What do you think about being the god mother to these two children renders them at particular risk? Tyler Perry obvs didn’t think he would have any problems. More Meghan exceptionalism reasoning.

Poor old Elton John, I thought he was always the godfather at these things 😀
