What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

Just let them get on with it - as long as they’re not over here - they can keep Tyler Perry, Oprah etc - they want a rise out of people - the less exposure and attention on those children the better (for them)

This.

Tyler can make his own judgement and clearly feels he has the security and persona to deal with the press.

By not revealing the others names H&M are protecting them from the press intrusion which has tormented everyone they have contact with.

Personally I think reading Spare should be compulsory before being allowed to post about H&M.

I don't think names have to be revealed if press intrusion will be a problem. But I remember at the engagement interview, both of them saying they shouldn't reveal the name of the person who introduced them to be respectful and private but Harry has no problem releasing it in his book. So I think their privacy mantra is all just made up twaddle that they'll break whenever it serves their purpose.

It's Meghan, but that's very imaginative of you, well done. 🙄 Why should she? He'd probably sell pics to the daily mail.

Selling to the Daily Mail? How inappropriate. Selling to Netflix is much higher class.

and that might put the kibosh on a Netflix deal.

@ChardonnaysBeastlyCat - great minds!

Eyerollcentral · 08/03/2023 14:40

Tbf I wouldn’t take kindly to someone correcting me about referring to Phil or Liz, I don’t believe in titles and won’t use them. Meagain is fair game on the same way I think tbh. I actually think it’s not particularly insulting and reasonably funny but that’s because when I read it I mentally hear the guy from Harry Enfield screaming Only Me! (Yes I am old and easily amused!) I don’t think it’s appropriate for anyone to be policing names on the thread.

Assuming this happens and as it looks as though Princess has been registered as the first of 3 names, would that not effectively make her Princess Princess Lilibet?

She's not been registered with Princess as a first name. They've christened her, not changed her name. It doesn't say "first name - Princess" on her birth certificate

Is the birth certificate published? She was born in the US so you'd have to access it from there if it is. Have you seen it? You don't 'register' a child's name during a christening. That's what the birth certificate is for.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if so she had been crassly registered on the birth certificate with Princess as a first name to make sure it's on there!

Let's face it both children's names are ridiculous for royal children - Lillibet and Archie. One a stolen nickname (obviously maliciously intended to show the Queen she didn't 'own' that name the same as the word 'royal') and the other sounds like a East End barrow boy. Was Archie registered as Archibald or just Archie does anyone know? If so why give him the name but not call him that?

In fact why does Rachel not use her first name? Has she ever talked about that?

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 14:40

I didn't think it was poor taste, just descriptive, I have an outfit that makes me look like I'm Wearing a giant condom!

mathanxiety · 08/03/2023 14:41

It was the intimate nickname of the woman who was this country's longest reigning monarch, whose legacy is immortalised in the history books. It's use was personal to those who were closest to her. It should have never been used as a given name. To have done so is completely crass and beyond creepy in the circumstances.

I think pretending some special insight into 'intimate' nicknames and spitting out your tea in high dudgeon is actually quite stalkerish and downright creepy.

The late queen isn't related to you, I'm 99.999999999999999% certain. You don't have a horse in this race.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 08/03/2023 14:41

TBH I thought it was funny.

TBF I have a body shape that makes me look like a mushroom.

JenniferBarkley · 08/03/2023 14:42

Yes, if I know it was the late queen's nickname there's nothing intimate about it Grin

toomuchlaundry · 08/03/2023 14:42

@bumpytrumpy it wasn't the Queen's name, it was her nickname used only be close family. Wasn't it said that when Prince Philip died no-one would ever call her Lilibet again.

Seems somewhat crass to use such a personal name when you hate the family

mathanxiety · 08/03/2023 14:42

@jeffgoldblum no, it was an extremely distasteful remark of extraordinary crassness.

GiesAGonkYaDobber · 08/03/2023 14:42

@Partyandbullshit

Indeed.Fine being linked when you have rank eh?

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 08/03/2023 14:43

Ah sorry, Ancient Gran that I thought it was you saying Meagain, I based it on the 'I thought it was Rachel' post.

milti · 08/03/2023 14:43

Lilibet was a giant FU - but they shot themselves in the foot as it’s an awful name - hence using Lili

FrownedUpon · 08/03/2023 14:43

They’re so embarrassing. The US is fed up with them now apparently.

You’re forgetting Harrison as Archie’s middle name. ‘Harry’s son’ just in case there should be any doubt.

SnottyLottie · 08/03/2023 14:45

Slightly off topic but in regards to Meghan’s style I would say she is very on trend and wears what is considered ‘trendy’ rather than what actually suits her. So at the moment it seems to be relaxed fit, baggy and oversized clothes that don’t really show off her lovely figure and just swamp her.

I prefer her off duty look, she knows how to rock a jeans and blouse combination. And I love love love her in a pencil skirt (that green one in particular). She looked nice in those skinny leather trousers too from the other night too (but I hated the oversized coat).

Maybe it’s just me though, I prefer a more tailored, fitted silhouette.

wordler · 08/03/2023 14:45

I think the Oprah statements / confusion over titles for Harry’s kids was based around a speculative conversation that Charles had included Harry in and presumably William around the time Harry was getting married / expecting Archie.

Charles couldn’t do anything on his own re titles for Harry’s children until he actually became King and at that point no one knew how long that would be (or if ever).

It makes sense that for a slimmed down monarchy you start reducing the number of hereditary titles outside of the heir line.

But how and when to do it is complicated - before the offspring who would lose titles are born, or after retroactively like some of the Scandi Courts?

I don’t think Charles wants to do any title removals so once any kids are born they are treated under current rules.

What I hope he does do is create a new Letters Patent soon that would clear up any confusion for the children of Charlotte and Louis way before they are married and having kids - so that any change will be established and not seen as a reaction to who they have married.

What I don’t understand with Harry and Meghan is why they want to use titles now when they had decided against using the courtesy titles already available for Archie and Lili?

They should have been styled as Archie, Earl of Dumbarton and Lady Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor as per regular styling of children of a Duke.

Grandson uses grandmothers name for his daughter.

Literally happens every day.

No shuddering needed.

It was a very personal nickname that only her parents, sister and Philip used and while H&M of course didn't need permission to use it, they did appropriate it without warning the Queen first. Had I been her, I might have found that a little jarring.

Tinypetunia · 08/03/2023 14:45

Talking of dresses. Did anyone else think that white dress made her look like a tampon?
No, it looked like a white dress to me.

But also usable as an alternative surname. In 25 years Archie Harrison would be able to live a fully anonymous life if he wished.

Archie I believe. I looked in to it at the time as I don’t care for the name and thought the full name Archie Harrison was dire if I’m honest. In the interests of balance I cannot stand the name Charlotte either
