What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

Is the birth certificate published? She was born in the US so you'd have to access it from there if it is. Have you seen it? You don't 'register' a child's name during a christening. That's what the birth certificate is for.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if so she had been crassly registered on the birth certificate with Princess as a first name to make sure it's on there!

Let's face it both children's names are ridiculous for royal children - Lillibet and Archie. One a stolen nickname (obviously maliciously intended to show the Queen she didn't 'own' that name the same as the word 'royal') and the other sounds like a East End barrow boy. Was Archie registered as Archibald or just Archie does anyone know? If so why give him the name but not call him that?

In fact why does Rachel not use her first name? Has she ever talked about that?

FFS. Can parents not call their child a name they like, like Archie?

Criticise them for certain things by all means, but your post is ridiculous. And saying a little boy whose name is Archie is like an East End barrow boy is really horrible. What is the matter with you.

And why can't Meghan call herself by her middle name?

Your post does you no favours whatsoever.

This is the problem with constantly quoting the Letters Patent which were drawn up when the likelihood of great grandchildren was probably not considered. If it's to be back dated as it were then a lot of peoploe will lose their titles!

Great-grandchildren were definitely considered under the currently operating LPs (1917). Under the previous LPs, great-grandchildren in the male line were prince/princes (but had the style His/Her Highness rather than Royal Highness.) One of the provisions of the LPs of 1917 was to take away this designation from great-grandchildren.

Mmmmm, let's think - Savannah, Isla, Mia, Lucas, Lena, Sienna....

All pretty off piste and dowmarket if you ask me.

Slightly off topic but in regards to Meghan’s style I would say she is very on trend and wears what is considered ‘trendy’ rather than what actually suits her. So at the moment it seems to be relaxed fit, baggy and oversized clothes that don’t really show off her lovely figure and just swamp her.

I prefer her off duty look, she knows how to rock a jeans and blouse combination. And I love love love her in a pencil skirt (that green one in particular). She looked nice in those skinny leather trousers too from the other night too (but I hated the oversized coat).

Maybe it’s just me though, I prefer a more tailored, fitted silhouette.

Totally agree with you. I wish I could wear a white shirt and jeans so well. I loved her maroon leather pencil skirt w the fine knit v neck and her hair was just lovely, v classy American, take you anywhere look. She looks much better in well tailored styles

Aintnosupermum · 08/03/2023 14:51

It’s consistent.

I have American citizenship. Titles are not allowed. It was spelled out to me very clearly and I had to sign an additional disclosure that by taking citizenship I would follow this.

Both children were born American so they probably won’t have such an onerous requirement. However, it will not go down well if they use the title.

I have never used my title because, honestly, it’s embarrassing. It means nothing and isn’t something I can monetize without making myself look like a fool. Quite frankly it’s caused a lot of problems and I fight stereotypes all the time. In the workplace, if you come from a family with money it’s assumed you won’t work hard and will stop working after you marry or have children. It’s very career limiting. I’ve fought hard and done well to progress but I work twice as hard as my peers and I don’t wear status symbols to work. No nice watch, no high end bag and no nice shoes. It just creates a rod for my own back. Cole haan, Aldo, Sam Eldeman and Ted Baker suffice and are comfortable. I would like to use my mothers bags but it just rubs people the wrong way.

And August, let's not forget that one. That is the one I am not keen on, but just personal preference. And I won't knock it or make a crass joke out of it. The rest are all good!

OK. So you expect me to monitor any royal threads and correct nicknames, I presume that is what you are saying. I think I have seen Chuck instead of Charles once. But you are saying I should be in charge of pulling that poster up. Rightio.... 🤣😂
Am I not allowed to have a preference to say I find 'Meagain' grating? Other people get riled about certain things, why not me?
But because I corrected that, I have to correct all other nicknames... hmmmmm

I am not sure why a nickname is an 'incorrect factual statement'.

I don't expect you to read anything. I dont expect you to monitor anything. It's just that you find Meagain grating because you know it's being used as an insult so you point it out to the writer. But you don't poin it out when others use names to denigrate. But I get it. It's just insults of Meghan you don't like. Fair enough.

I wasn't thinking bastardisations of names as being an incorrect factual statement - although I suppose it is. I don't correct those because it sort of gives the writer satisfaction that their nastiness is registering. You asked me if I correct people on everything and I'm saying if it's factually wrong, yes, I try to, regardless of whether it's Harry and Meghan or the RF.

Apparently they were all invited but no one came"King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton were invited to the intimate gathering, a source tells PEOPLE" people.com/royals/meghan-markle-prince-harry-invite-royal-family-princess-lilibet-christening/

I imagine now Charles is King that popping over to the States for a quick visit is infinitely more complicated.

Also interesting from that that they seem to just have had one Godfather and Godmother, isn't the British tradition like 6? "An insider tells PEOPLE there were between 20-30 guests at Friday's intimate gathering, including Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, Lilibet's godfather, Tyler Perry, and an unnamed godmother."

Kate Middleton eh? They mean HRH the Princess of Wales, presumably.

I still can't believe it's not been acknowledged that what was said on Oprah was all rubbish !!
It was basically heavily implied that thier children would not have titles because of racism.

Quite.

God, how many times do I have to repeat myself. I saw 'Chuck' once. I didn't realise I should've immediately pulled that poster up, according to you. That I am at fault for not doing that.
I get what you're doing too.

Did you pull the poster up on Meagain?
No thought not.

Wasn't it said that when Prince Philip died no-one would ever call her Lilibet again.

Yes, and they were wrong. The Chattos and Armstong-Joneses used it, perhaps with "Auntie" in front, especially by the younger ones. The Gloucesters and Kents did too. It wasn't a name only used by immediate family. Her Bowes-Lyons first cousins used it too.

BreadInCaptivity · 08/03/2023 14:57

I'm not surprised tbh.

As a pp pointed out a couple with a monogrammed royal doormat were unlikely to forgo this opportunity.

I just wonder why now - frankly I'd expected it sooner. Something to do with coronation negotiations maybe?

I don't think it's a good look for them however, even if the children technically already had these titles. It certainly makes the comments in the Oprah interview spring to mind in terms how they represented their position.

As for the RF again as a pp said I think this ship sailed a while ago as something QE should have done. C might have been relying on H&M's goodwill in his plans for a slimmed down monarchy, but post their move to the US and allegations of racism forcing them not to use the titles was going to be very bad PR.

Realistically C should be looking to the future and sorting out how Charlotte/Louis offspring will be titled so they grow up perfectly clear about what will happen.

As stands it's not something I think H&M should have done, but their children their decision and all that, but it does give grist to the mill about their willingness to take everything his family have to offer that fits their aspirations whilst simultaneously being highly critical of them.

Lilibet was a giant FU - but they shot themselves in the foot as it’s an awful name - hence using Lili

See this is what I don’t understand. Didn’t Scobie say that they considered Archibald at first but laughed at how formal and stiff it sounded so just decided to go with Archie instead. It worked because Harry if formally a Henry and Meghan’s Christian name is Rachel.

Naming her Lilibet to call her Lili when they scoffed at Archibald seems strange to me.

So sorry to be nosy 🧐, but what is your title? , I'm preparing to be very impressed!
Don't feel you have to say if it's uncomfortable though.

Oh dear, a princess born on American soil, to live her life as a US Citizen where such titles do not exist can not be used legally.

What are they thinking 🤣

But hey ho, the world wide privacy tour continues..

Ach these two just make it up as they go along. I know it’s terribly destructive to themselves, their children and everyone belonging to them but times are tough and I do love a pair of committed spoofers, it just entertains me.

Yes, that is her birth name. She uses the name Meghan. But not Meagain.

Both are her names aren't they? Rachel Meghan Markle. So she can use any of them.
