Why is the Queen commenting on the Roald Dahl controversy?

I thought the Royal Family were supposed to be uncontroversial and unpolitical, so why is the Queen getting involved in this? It is nothing to do with her, she did not have to say anything?

Or have the rules changed and they are now going to be more controversial and political?

It was announced last year that Camilla would be referred to as The Queen and that the word 'consort' would be dropped.
It was in mainstream news. I don't know why people are objecting to it.

Me neither. Did some people not know that Queen Elizabeth II had died and Charles had become King? It was quite heavily covered by the media.

Just as Philip was not the King.

No queen consort has ever been known as such. They were all the queen. She is not drowned yet, I will give you, but Queen Camilla is a fact of life.

I couldn't give two shits what the Palace wants. The public will decide if they accept her, or not. For most people I know it's a definite not.

Our beloved Queen is dead. Camilla is no replacement.

The people "not accepting Camilla as Queen" always remind me of those who wouldn't accept decimalisation. I remember some adults saying "not my money" and using the term "shillings" for years afterwards.
Some people just get stuck in the past and find any social change hard to accept.

Charles did god knows what deal ( Andrew related probably) to get the queen to state she wanted Camilla crowned.
The fact that that had to be stated says it all

Camilla and Charles sitting on their gold thrones and being anointed etc is going to generate more bad feeling than good long term
Their timing is dreadful

I don’t have any strong views on Camilla and agree that she is of course Queen now, but it will take a while for me to see “the Queen” in a headline or title and not automatically think of QEII first; that’s how it was for my fifty-mumble years.

@bloodyplanes - I know.
No monarch makes "a deal" over a coronation. People genuinely don't understand how it works. Charles inherits the throne, he is King, his wife is Queen. I'm not sure why that's difficult.
If you don't like Charles or Camilla, that's your opinion. It doesn't change the facts.

Yeah she isn't my queen, I'm a bit of a lefty troublemaker.
But her intervention meant I have a new plan for this problem in my own school library. I am going to get stickers to put on books that say " This book was written years ago, some of the language may be offensive."
I'm thinking the kids will read the books to find out why. And my job will be done. Getting kids to read that is.

Well, @Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit - to be pedantic, she is the Queen, not much you can do about that, but I understand that you mean you don't agree with the title or role.
I like your idea for the school library. Good way to get the teens interested.
I like to do the same with PowerPoints, put a trigger warning on the first slide to get their attention. It's usually very lame, but hey, anything to get heads off the desks.

Omg I can't believe I have never thought of that. Trigger warning. I'm totally going to steal that. And you are correct about not being my choice if she is queen, it's a bit of an issue in this fair land that two out of three parts of our government are unelected , house of Lords and monarchy.
If it were my choice I would make HoL elected and then let the monarchy alone. Other people's presidents aren't all that. At least our royal family have nice and very bizarre outfits for all occasions.

I'm with you on that. The House of Lords should go.
It should be replaced by a body consisting of two people representing each area in the country, elected every 4 years.
No more "appointments" or rewards for being a lazy shit MP.
