Since she became POW, she seems to have a new confidence and people up and down the country seem to just adore her. If she is having an off day, she never lets it show. She is always smiling and joking and her spontaneous comment to her old history teacher really show her to be a nice, modest person and the best thing that happened to the RF.

I will be even more pedantic and say that there’s no such word as “etcetera”. There are two words - “et cetera”. “Etcetera” makes as much sense as “andtherest”. But, yes, the short form is “etc”.

Why do these threads always have to revert to Meghan (usually to criticise her too)? I thought this thread was all about heroine worship of the perfect Kate, as per the opening post?

Personally it would be nice to see her actually achieve something - but so far, nothing. Early years introduction a few weeks ago, and as usual nothing followed through. Not the sharpest, sadly - despite that first class education. But she obviously impresses masses of people.

I think the monarchy is now on a downward spiral with the Queen's passing - and with Harry and Meghan going they missed a huge opportunity to make themselves relevant to the younger generation. Their work was superb - Invictus, Sentabale, Meghan's Grenfell Tower cookbook. She has a work ethic that outshone Kate and personally I believe there was a lot of jealousy at play on Kate's part. Yes, of course Kate is higher in the hierarchy but certainly not as either professional, charismatic or as natural a speaker as Meghan. Anyway now they're gone Kate and William have had to try and up their game and do more engagements - be careful what you wish for!!!!!

@DaphneduM completely agree! I think people love to Meghan-bash because she dared to have a bit of a personality and they believe the trashy redtop newspapers.

People seem to like their royalty to be faceless, personalityless, but to look pretty, smile politely but not to do anything truly meaningful.

The speed at which the Camilla dropped the Consort is breathtaking. I'm sure the late Queen never intended that should be so but that the new King has acceded to her wishes. These things obviously matter to these folk.

Not just to them, it seems.

Types of Queen:

Queen regnant: a female monarch, equivalent in rank and title to a king, who reigns in her own right (the late Queen Elizabeth). The title King outranks Queen therefore the Queen regnant's spouse could not be called a King - hence Prince Philip

Queen consort: the wife of a reigning king

Queen regent: guardian of a child monarch and rules in the child's stead

Queen dowager: widow of a king

Queen mother: queen dowager who is also the mother of a reigning sovereign

All of these types of queen are referred to as Queen (name). So Camilla was always going to be referred to as Queen Camilla - she is indeed a Queen consort but she is also Queen. The picture attached in of the three Queens at the funeral of George VI - Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Elizabeth. Ceremonial titles would be Queen May Queen Consort/Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth Queen Consort/Queen Mother and Queen Elizabeth, Queen Regnant.

Who was an ardent fan now can't stand her.

Kate is boring but she understands what the job entails and she manages to tell the truth.

Only because of historical sexism, and that can change. In many European countries where the Salic law prevailed, only men could inherit the throne and so queens in their own right were non-existent or very rare. And even in countries that allowed women to reign, men took precedence in the succession until very recently (and still do in some).

It's certainly possible with more egalitarian rules about succession, the notion that King is a higher title can change and male consorts can be called King. With more queens regnant on the horizon all over Europe (Sweden, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain) and a move to have more equality between the sexes in these matters, we might see the King Consort title used for the husbands of Queens.

consider that regardless of the fact that the late Queen was kind to Meghan and King Charles walked her down the isle - the peeks behind the curtain with Harry himself, Prince Phillips “gaffes”, the recent thing with Lady Hussey, Princess Michael of Kent amoungst others events do not absolve the royal family as an institution and system from racism. Marrying into a family does not magically cleanse a family of racism and it is naive to think that H&M’s marriage somehow negates all that came before regardless of the personal interactions they may have had with individuals.
