Their standing in the US is at an all-time low. US audiences seem to hold them in the same contempt as people in the UK

Completely off piste but now, I just have the Elastica I think song for an earworm

Republica! (Also love 90s music 😀)

SoTedious · 22/02/2023 21:03

Meghan needs to do a photoshoot with the sprawling sights of Hollywood behind her, looking dead into camera, wearing a white hat and a ‘stop looking at us’ T-shirt

Exactly right - like Andy Murray's wife Kim wearing her explicit content t shirt after she was caught on camera shouting "fucking have it you Czech fuck" at Berdych 😂

MichelleScarn · 22/02/2023 21:44

So it is.@Serenster! Halcyon days! Add in Garbage, Ash, Shed 7 etc!

mixedrecycling · 22/02/2023 22:18

Oh yes, Garbage! Stupid Girl my anthem for my late teens!

Aren’t you exhausted bending yourself into so many shapes to prove Meghan and Harry are young adults? They are middle aged! Deal with it!

I imagine it’s nowhere near as exhausting as it is being so bitter. I can only hope I look as good when I actually reach middle aged – that of course would be beyond the age of 38 (H’s actual age).

PatientZorro · 23/02/2023 08:43

😂😂Thank you to the poster so determinedly arguing that H is a young adult at 38. So very ridiculous - given me a chuckle on the way to work.

ThePoshUns · 23/02/2023 09:19

🤣🤣

Plitvice · 23/02/2023 09:23

Oh, so now age is not an individual thing but a couples thing. You take the age of the youngest person and apply it to both. Maybe Bernie Ecclestone was onto something.

sydneysunset · 23/02/2023 09:34

Well, Harry's living in the US now, where life expectancy is around 77.8. This means he is potentially more than halfway there, putting him squarely in the middle-aged category.

Nooo you separate the digits 3+8+4+1= 16?
Then definitely 'young adult'!

💡Ah-ha!

None of us can know until we've attended the "young adult groups" of which Sayitagainmyl speaks.

I can only hope I look as good when I actually reach middle aged

I hope so too, on your behalf.

Of course, this being the internet, you could be 92 and approaching middle age from the opposite direction for all anyone knows.

On the It is great how Kate is embracing her role as the People's Princess and carrying on Diana's legacy thread people are finding it hilarious that Kate gets described as "young".

CPL593H · 23/02/2023 11:35

W&K and H&M are not old of course, but none of them fit the descriptor "young adults" or "young couple". I honestly think 30 is pushing that, TBH, it is surely used more for 18-mid 20s.

It's not some kind of gross insult not to think of them as particularly young, happens to all of us if we're lucky enough.

Sayitagainmyl · 23/02/2023 12:10

Quick question: is it ageism to make frequent reference to a person’s age in a manner to denigrate said individuals if you, yourself, are far older? 😁😂

An apt quote for the day:
“Envy is the religion of the mediocre. It comforts them, it soothes their worries, and finally it rots their souls, allowing them to justify their meanness and their greed until they believe these to be virtues.”

I actually think it’s insulating to call 30+ year old man or woman a “young adult”.

I doubt anyone would really appreciate it. It’s dismissive of their life experience and super annoying.

Also, anyone calling a 40 year old a “young adult” and thinking it’s a compliment is more likely to be 60 or older. No one believe that age nor near it uses that language.

You are the one doing this. You keep calling people older as if it’s an insult.
and you don’t know anyone’s age here.

You think being “older” is somehow bad?

Its quite illogical. A play on “you must be jealous”.

IcedPurple · 23/02/2023 12:33

What's a 'young adult group' when it's at home?

The park and a bottle of white lightning?

The park and a bottle of white lightning?

Don't you think that's a bit undignified for those pushing 40, who count as 'young adults' according to one poster here?

jeffgoldblum · 23/02/2023 12:47

@IcedPurple , I'm sorry your so right ! , I think weed was the narcotic of choice !

The only Zafon I've read is "Shadow of the Wind" which I enjoyed.
However, just because someone is a good writer doesn't mean everything they say is true.
Imo, the above quote doesn't hold up: envy is a very uncomfortable emotion which doesn't comfort or soothe anyone.
Just because something reads well and sounds impressive doesn't mean you have to believe it.

TrashyPanda · 23/02/2023 12:56

there is a huge age span in EEs definition category of “young adult”, which you quoted.

22 years in fact.

so using that logic, your criteria of “far older” would have to be a minimum of 23 years older than the maximum age (40) of that category.

as ever, Shakespeare said it best

Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing
