"Kate's Rebranding Masterclass May Finally See off Meghan"

MrsMaxDeWinter · 08/02/2023 14:13

"Five months since she moved up to the second tier of the monarchy, the Princess has started beefing up her top team to make sure she succeeds not only with her “life’s work” on child development, but also with the task of besting Meghan Markle."

Why does Meghan have to look bad for Kate to look good? Why does Meghan need to be bested or seen off? Why is it a competition?

Yes yes yes. And personally I didn't even criticise her make up!

I remember countless posts and threads whilst Meghan was still a working member of the RF... criticising every single aspect of her face, her body, her make up, her clothes, her smile and even one set of posts about ... her feet and shoes!
Please note... this was before they left but it was OK to do that. Hmm

But woe betide me saying Kate's make up has changed somewhat and when she goes to official evening bashes, it is heavier. Up to her how she does her make up, I don't care, it was just a comment.

You're right!
I remember the first time for me was when there was an uproar about the colour of her tights!?
And that her legs were so slim? I can't remember the words used but at the time I was just envious of her slim figure. Couldn't figure out how some people were seeing something so different

KrasiTime · 10/02/2023 15:42

Oh the colour of tights thing was ridiculous. I was on the S&B threads at the time - think it was Queen of Andals that started them? We were both in agreement that the tights was ridiculous. And the nail varnish. I mean who really cares bar a few people?

I agree there will be a change in some protocols now the Queen has gone. She died a couple of weeks after my dad and I really felt for the Royals having to be on show at such a time.

one of them said... the majority of my posts are deleted because I'm a vile person,

I remember this - the person used a new name ( for example user 123.......etc) just for those attacks and then just disappeared off the thread. I think somebody pointed out to her it was unlikely and probably when somebody set themselves up with an almost identical username to you.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 10/02/2023 15:44

Or him** 😂

GloomyDarkness · 10/02/2023 15:51

The sort of posts I'm talking about with NCers is waking up in the morning to see a post overnight directed at me that is a personal attack...

Then please report it which would benefit us all.

I am definitely seeing though tendency to blame NC posters for disagreements or insist someone is someone else purely due to disagreements - and I thought your post has a whiff of that about it - I'm sorry I misunderstood.

No problem. And yes I do report. Because it has happened to me so many times.

Oh yes... they changed one letter of my name and became very anti Meghan. (it was laughable!) I think some posters thought it was me and WTAF is Roussette on about, is she drunk at 9am!!
To be fair to MNHQ they acted very swiftly on that, because it was obviously just a troll.

The article is ridiculous, and pitting two women against each other when one of them left years ago and there is no connection now.

Sadly (and this won't go down well), I think shoehorning Meghan in makes the article more interesting for readers... typical clickbait. I just think maybe not enough readers would click on the article without the comparison to Meghan and the dramatic headlines.

However... I do want to say here. It is encouraging to see that Kate has appointed a very different Private Secretary. Not your usual civil servant (honestly... the amount of Palace staff who flit between being Government Special Advisers and Palace aides is ridiculous!).

This woman is from outside that incestuous set up... she is from the private sector, was involved with Jamie Oliver's free school meals thing and was Branding Manager for Virgin, and will bring a very different talent to the Palace.
This is a good thing. I hope it works.
However, it is unusual and god knows how the normal aides and courtiers will cope with someone from outside, and a bit of a ball breaker at that. I am having a deja vu moment and thinking of Meghan coming into that set up! I hope (against all hope) that it works and the new Private Secretary can grab this Early Years thing and make it matter, and if so it will be the start of some modernisation of the royal family.

(p.s. Talking of Virgin... is it just me... but does anyone else LOVE the Virgin Atlantic "I am what I am" TV advert? It sends shivers up my spine!)
Sorry to derail @MrsMaxDeWinter Smile I'm having another Dolly moment lol.

No, it really irritates me. Virgin trying too hard to showcase how diverse and edgy their staff/customers are. But right at the end they're damn careful to show the pilot as white, attractive, middle class looking.

This is because they assumed that most flyers would feel uneasy if their pilot was a trans male wearing huge false lashes and a dress.

And a woman! That is good, no?

No because it it normal and doesn't require highlighting as if it were something outlandish. Women DO jobs like this.

upinaballoon · 10/02/2023 19:44

Did Willy deserve the state of his penis to be discussed publicly?

No, but the royal babies are circumcised because it said so, probably in Woman's Weekly in 1958, so no big news to anyone. I expect Harry's was, too. Did he say, in the book?

Rhondaa · 10/02/2023 19:53

I don't get it. You're complaining that it includes a women as a pilot as that is 'normal' rather than a 'transman wearing a dress'? Confused.

I think it is good that women are being represented.

Bookist · 10/02/2023 21:05

Women have been flying planes for a hundred years. Nothing new or diverse about that. If Virgin had the courage of their convictions they would have shown the pilot looking far more diverse than just being a woman (and a white, middle class looking woman at that).

What ... in a dress?

Every pilot has to wear a uniform

I like the advert, but hey ho, just my opinion.

No - I am saying that surely Virgin doesn't think that a woman pilot is unusual?

@MrsMaxDeWinter

And some of the posters agreeing with you have speculated on William and Kate’s marriage and them splitting - so pot calling the kettle and all of that ….

And none of those speculations about either marriage were decent. They were vile.

@Roussette

This topic on mumsnet does not represent the reality of how 'royals ' are viewed in the UK
Unless the royalists here are 65/70 plus which the only remaining demographic which has a majority in support of 'royals ' .

A man was holding up a blank sheet of paper at a W an K walkabout yesterday. A blank sheet - and the police removed him
One man ( it was a tiny crowd - must have been kept quiet) prepared to demonstrate represents many others who feel the same but can't or won't risk arrest .

It will be invite only soon to keep up appearances

It is astonishing that you can hold up a blank piece of paper and get arrested. What could have been written on that paper is only in that man’s thoughts. So, it would seem ‘the thought police’ are already with us.

I’m sure we’ll see this in Australia. Recent past govt wanted to take away our right to protest. And Australians aren’t generally big protesters anyway. (The reasons are complex).

'I'm amused folk on here are still knocking her, given she hasn't been seen since the beginning of December. It's like a drug to some, a drug they can't give up.
Wake up. Post shit about Meghan. Rinse and repeat'

She is married to Harold. He has just released a revolting tell all, now I think she may have encouraged that unedifying blabbing, they are but 2 cheeks of the same arse. They starred in a grubby reality show, again breaching other people's privacy while in the next breath wanging on that their privacy have been breached.

No one is 'posting shit' about the Markles, rather critiquing their ridiculous and hypocritical behaviour.

Janiie, we all get it. You don’t like either of them.

Ohnonevermind · 10/02/2023 12:36

does anyone remember the book based on George Bush jnr’s wife, I just can’t remember the name Once he was serious about running she was told to get a facelift to look fresh for the campaign. Appearances matter unfortunately sometimes too much

The novel? If so, I’ve read it. And I am about to read the one about Hillary Clinton if she hadn’t married Bill.

I’d forgotten about the facelift. I did end up liking Laura very much because of that book. Lol at myself.

Nothing was going to convince me George W was a good guy!

Ohnonevermind · 10/02/2023 23:02

@Morestrangethings

We thought George was dreadful and then Trump arrived, and George didn’t seem so bad. Sharing sweets with the Obamas made him seem so human

I haven’t read the Hilary one yet.

Morestrangethings · 11/02/2023 00:15

Serenster · 10/02/2023 14:49

No, but as I said, I do think the nature of online discourse had changed a lot (for the worse) between 2010 and 2017.

And I also think that Harry’s relatively speedy engagement to an American actress was always going to create a hell of a lot more interest, both positive and negative than William getting engaged to his girlfriend of 8 years. Add the fact that Meghan was also divorced and mixed race as well, and it was a huge deal. I think it would likely only have been bigger if it had been William she was marrying!

It makes me wonder how W&K are going to
protect their kids, and the people they marry, from this same vitriol, when the time comes. Someone said that Harry’s 2 kids are now free of that. I think they are right.

Yes, I’d agree with that. George W didn’t quite seem half as bad compared to Trump. Like many Australians I breathed a sigh of relief when Biden won in 2020.

However we had elected our own Trump lite PM, just as UK elected Boris. All gone from the top jobs now, thank heavens.

Jesus, living in that toxic, paranoid household where every comment is a slur, every action is a criticism, where nasty books are written including comments about ugly women with crooked spines etc will be far more damaging and draining than the media speculating on future partners. W&K will protect their dc by being role models, by leading by example.
