If King Charles asked people not to boo the couple and did a deal with newspapers and TV to not print pictures of them or comment on their appearance, do you think they would come.

If there was a total news blackout where they were concerned (which I would just love!) so we didn't have to even see them, (apart from a passing glimpse), i think I could bear them coming. Daddy clearly want them there. Fatted calf and all that.

Would this get around the problem of them taking the spotlight away from the actual ceremony?

Oh and re the 'con-a-nation' itself

  • when you understand how a coronation differs from an inauguration you'll see how the ceremony itself is a con
Total con They can't say it's divine will but they do and say and perform everything just short of it . Charlie receiving unction as part of being head of state and simultaneously being head of the church should give pause in itself

Luckily for the 'royals' most people don't look beyond the shiny things - as many here admit.

Novella4 · 05/03/2023 20:02

Really @IcedPurple ?
You accept Bakers criticism of the institution yet its Harry you condemn?
You are being conned again
The Harry hate is whipped up mainly to keep people from really turning attention to the 'royals'

They can't say it's divine will but they do and say and perform everything just short of it .

OK, so you admit no-one is being 'conned' into believing it is divine will.

Where is your evidence that anyone believes that it is 'just short of' divine will?

How many people would have any belief in 'receiving unction' making any difference to anyone? How many people would be able to define 'unction'?

mixedrecycling · 05/03/2023 20:10

And why do you refer to Charles as 'Chuck'? Has that ever been his nickname with his family and friends?

As I've said, raise issues of hereditary roles as much as you like - but why the belittling nicknames, if you have a strong position on the underlying issues?

Again, other people are stupid enough to be 'conned'. You have the superior intelligence to see the Ultimate Truth...

I don't necessarily agree with all of Baker's book, but it is an informative read. People don't come in neat little boxes marked 'royalist' or 'republican' despite your rather simplistic views. I can see there is plenty to criticise about the institution of the monarchy, and about certain members, while still also appreciating certain aspects of it. You seem to consider yourself a cut above the rest of us intellectually, despite a lack of evidence. So presumably you can also see that life can't always be summed up in one line paragraphs about 'chuck' and 'royalists' being 'conned'?

As for Harry, I'm not sure what 'whipping up' is needed when he's flogging pay per view 'therapy sessions' on Zoom. That's on him.

Yes, the great masses are 'conned' by the 'shiny things' and brainwashed by the tabloids.

Good thing we have Novella4 and her fierce intellect to set us right.

mixedrecycling · 05/03/2023 20:19

Of course it is impossible that anyone with any intelligence would disagree with @Novella4 's opinions.

They are the source of Ultimate Truth and....sorry... forgot what I was saying, I saw something shiny...

btw love

lipstickwoman · 05/03/2023 21:38

They really shouldn't come. They've made it clear they don't have time for the monarchy and have 'resigned' their position within it. Far better they should come for family occasions.

Morestrangethings · 05/03/2023 21:44

LadyVictoriaSponge · 05/03/2023 16:37

I thought it was obvious from the thread, @Novella4 is saying the UK is a laughing stock because we are having a coronation and we are the only country in the world who do so. I posted the 3 day coronation from 2019 in Thailand to show that poster we are not the only country in the world to have coronations, so if we are the worlds laughing stock, the world must be in hysterics at Thailands coronation which is longer and more elaborate than ours.

👍

I dunno, he left to play polo on Archies birthday last year.

And KC won't have picked the date: it would be a joint decision by the Govt, Police, Security Servies, Church, Foreign Office, Palace, to take into account weather, already scheduled big events, schedules of other Heads of State.

......and it's got to fit around my birthday and the cricket. I don't want to be gallivanting off to the cricket on the day when I'm supposed to be adorning my forelock with plaited red, white and blue ribbon, and listening to Huw's hushed tones all day.

it’s shocking isn’t it. How low can someone sink. Selling pay per view therapy sessions and being diagnosed on it.

just when you think he can’t do anything more distasteful he pulls this stunt out the sewer.

You're not supposed to be doing anything. You've got the day off to go do anything you want. Every two years there are several weeks of constant football coverage that ruins my watching schedule. I find it irritating. But I don't go on about having to watch it because I don't. I switch off or I watch a different channel.

The BBC text snippet suggests to me that BP has sent out e-mails to several people, forewarning that a formal invitation will follow.
If H and M do come I don't see how they would steal any show. For the papers and the TV there will be a lot more than them to look at and comment on.

When I see headlines like this in the US, I can’t help but think Harry has been protected his entire life. It really makes the accusations of the palace using him as a scapegoat seem unhinged.

I agree. They didn't steal the funeral. They behaved perfectly properly and respectfully and the broadcasters didn't really give them much airtime.

I didn't think I was being a martyr to anything. I was gently taking the wee-wee out of the people who throw around the 'forelock-tugging' accusations. It's the same as when I tell them I curtsey 27 times each evening to the picture of the late Queen in the hall.

headstone · 05/03/2023 22:14

I’m 100 percent sure they will come despite the disdain for the whole thing. Harry will be able to then talk about how sorry he felt for his father when he was crowned and his amazing Meghan was during the whole ceremony.

Then I apologise. It's difficult to tell tone on here. I'm sorry.
I'm looking forward to the coronation but I understand others aren't interested. I respect their feelings but it would just be nice if they didn't try to suck the joy out of it for rest of us.

When Harry's PR was being run by the dreaded 'grey men', he was one of the most popular royals.

Now that we're hearing his 'voice' every other day, his approval ratings have plummeted.

I think it's obvious what, or who, is the problem here.

She got candled during the funeral. Whether that was coincidence or not we will never know.

That was also the last time they will be seen even in a second row though - imagine the conversations about what seats they would be getting if they come 😅

You're probably right. It will just give them more to whinge about.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 06/03/2023 01:09

They won't in a million years pass up the opportunity for more material.

And it's absurd to think a toddler's birthday, which the child won't even remember, is remotely on the scale of a coronation.
