If King Charles asked people not to boo the couple and did a deal with newspapers and TV to not print pictures of them or comment on their appearance, do you think they would come.

If there was a total news blackout where they were concerned (which I would just love!) so we didn't have to even see them, (apart from a passing glimpse), i think I could bear them coming. Daddy clearly want them there. Fatted calf and all that.

Would this get around the problem of them taking the spotlight away from the actual ceremony?

So who has bought the rights for the 'h &m Netflix coronation special' ?

If they wanted to lie low and not make it all about them they could, will it happen yeah nah I would be surprised if it is not the h&m show

twinklystar23 · 06/03/2023 06:50

Read that they wanted a full apology before attending, guess their unlikely to come then?

BillLius · 06/03/2023 07:01

IcedPurple · 05/03/2023 19:40

Thank you for that information.

My point was that invitations are issued by the Earl Marshal, not the King. And I doubt they'd be sent via Hotmail.

No, they’ll come from [email protected]. Well, mine did anyway.

This is what I can't get my head around.

They are 40, give or take a year or two. Surely they have learnt that if you issue ultimatums (ultimata?!) you need to be ready and willing to follow through?

(let alone that it usually creates push back, so even if you get what you want it actually makes the relationship worse)

I didn't think I was being a martyr to anything. I was gently taking the wee-wee out of the people who throw around the 'forelock-tugging' accusations. It's the same as when I tell them I curtsey 27 times each evening to the picture of the late Queen in the hall.

Only 27 times?!

You peasant...😂

Plitvice · 06/03/2023 09:08

😆I may use it as a strategy to get those curtsey lunges in.

Especially when there is a massive power imbalance, and not in your favour.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/03/2023 10:55

They won't in a million years pass up the opportunity for more material

I honestly do get this argument, but what material are they going to get if they're carefully kept at arms' length, as on previous visits?
I'd have thought any real money would depend on significant access to the "big names", and if they're allowed that I'll be amazed

*When Harry's PR was being run by the dreaded 'grey men', he was one of the most popular royals.

Now that we're hearing his 'voice' every other day, his approval ratings have plummeted.

I think it's obvious what, or who, is the problem here.*

Very well said!

The same grey suits that suddenly saw red when he married a woc and briefed agains him and her?

Page6 is a murdock rag, btw.

notanotheroneagain · 06/03/2023 11:21

In with the Parker-Bowleses.

Hope William got his ducks in a row. Charles changes rules all the time. From 'she will never be queen' to taking titles away from A&L.
Wonder when we will hear that we must now address Tom and Laura as HRH or 'Royal Patrons of '. 😅

Why am I starting to believe the lines:

It’s only a line or two in Spare but Camilla was unlikely to forget this bit: “She began,” Harry writes, “to play the long game, a campaign aimed at marriage and eventually the crown.” Favourable Camilla stories began to appear that could only, he says, have come from her: “And the leaking had obviously been abetted by the new spin doctor Camilla had talked Pa into hiring.”

Well, Wales, I would say you had that coming

Sounds like Camilla has a lot in common with Meghan but played it better. 😁

Your reasoning makes no sense at all. Since H is not an heir. It would make more sense if you said it about the Middletons.

MrsGhandi · 06/03/2023 11:34

Let's face it the Coronation will be pretty boring without the presence of H and M to see their faces , what they do etc. It will be pretty galling for H esp to have to watch Camilla take her role in the proceedings considering how much he has publicly criticised her. It's a dilemma for him - prove to himself how important he is and go but then have to watch all of this unfold. He is a hypocrite if he goes but he just won't be able to stay away. Charles has played a blinder - invited them and almost bribing them by offering them accommodation. Perhaps H and M think that shows how important they are whereas I would say it makes them look foolish. Who knows what will happen but H has to accept that his father will not have overlooked his criticism of Camilla and he is there for show only. If they think they were frozen out before then they "ain't see nothing yet". I will be out of the UK on holiday so will be interesting to see if it all even gets a mention.

Many people saw the Bambi eye contact towards William. If he had responded, she would have dropped Harry in a shot.

There are a few others but I'm sorry I can't remember all the names

You have all yet again demonstrated that you haven't grasped the difference between a Coronation and an inauguration
Objections to the unnecessary con -a-nation in the UK centre around cost but also the involve the nature of the ceremony

UK Tonga and Thailand Japan have coronations . And yes people do laugh at them .

amp.abc.net.au/article/11075952

The main difference being that coronations hijack religion and link that to the kings power . They all differ of course , having their own arcane set of rituals .They also create a king who rules in away that cannot happen in a full democracy

In the UK it means Chuck is above the law . He could stab someone and the law can't touch him . We know he interferes in laws to protect his own interests

It's the religious aspect that is the real issue . For as long as they could get away with it 'kings' said it was god's will. They used the ritual to reinforce this
Chuck and Camilla are being anointed in a quasi sacrament which isn't offered to any other COE member . The ritual has been been retained in order to convey the idea that god is giving them the nod

Chuck will also quack on about being defender of faiths but it's all lies . The con a nation also elevates the Church of England by linking it to power despite it not representing the reality of the nation
That is a fracture line for the monarchy . The problem for the COE is they now have Charlie as head of the church and Camilla to anoint.

If he has a transparent canopy it proves they know the gig is up but aren't sure how to address it .
William will not be made head of any church and he's very unlikely to have a coronation

I've never heard of it either. If someone started a thread on MN saying Thailand was the laughing stock of the world because of its coronation, and that Thais must be really dim to allow themselves to be 'conned' by such a farce, they would immediately be called culturally ignorant and disrespectful of another country's traditions. And rightly so.

Novella4 · 06/03/2023 13:17

Never heard of people laughing at the idea that a man becomes a quasi god when a special hat is on his head?

Well that explains a lot !

Novella4 · 06/03/2023 13:17

And actually there is nothing laughable about the situation is Thailand

I haven't, no.

I think most reasonably intelligent people are aware that centuries old customs can seem a bit ridiculous now, but they are still respected as a part of tradition and not to be taken literally.

Do you regularly come across folk in stitches over the details of Thailand's Coronation ceremony? Do you consider Thais less intellectually gifted than yourself for being 'conned' by them?
