If King Charles asked people not to boo the couple and did a deal with newspapers and TV to not print pictures of them or comment on their appearance, do you think they would come.

If there was a total news blackout where they were concerned (which I would just love!) so we didn't have to even see them, (apart from a passing glimpse), i think I could bear them coming. Daddy clearly want them there. Fatted calf and all that.

Would this get around the problem of them taking the spotlight away from the actual ceremony?

I'd like to see Harry attend. however, it is not necessary if he decides to give it a miss. He is moving ever further away from the core-royal family as William's kids grow up.

He is now merching his mental health difficulties. There is nothing left that he will not merch now that he has bought into that mindset via his wife. Obviously, his wife is working on her own content to merch their love story this year. Soon, there will be nothing left to merch. Those bills are huge and going to stay that way as they are living beyond their means on no talent. It will implode.

Yes, I think it's a lose lose situation from all sides. From the RF side they will have the attention focused away from the ceremony and onto H&M. They will also risk any conversations being leaked and their baldness, stuffiness and unfriendliness, plus that lack of an apology, plastered all over Netflix.

I sadly too think it is a lose lose.

Time sorts most things. It just might be too soon.

I’d probably be choosing to stay where I was. Working on my own happiness and that of my family. Dealing with my own little bucket of mess.

And that goes for both sides.

What does 'email correspondence' mean, exactly? It doesn't explicitly say they have been invited. I hardly think that invitations to the Coronation of a King would be sent by email.

And why are they telling us this?

SirChenjins · 05/03/2023 11:30

Email correspondence = from now on everything is put in writing so they can’t accuse the RF of things they didn’t say.

It’s a very difficult situation all round, but one that could have been avoided if H&M hadn’t gone on their worldwide privacy tour.

It’s all very victim-y. They could simply have said something like they were still talking to PC about how they can make it work, given that it’s Archie’s birthday that day. ‘Email correspondence’ is their way of playing the victim - ‘the RF can’t even bring themselves to talk to us, instead we just get an email, look at how badly we’re treated’.

Plitvice · 05/03/2023 11:55

"Dear Pa, I'm sorry that we won't be attending. We are still on our worldwide privacy tour. Love Harry"

diddl · 05/03/2023 12:09

Isn't it only rags like the DM that would focus away from KC if H&M went?

Surely they could easily keep a low profile in any one of the Royal residences?

Perhaps Archie would love to watch Grandpa be crowned King on his bday!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/03/2023 12:42

Not necessarily, diddl; even with the Queen's funeral, while most tactfully held off for a few days at least, there were still a few who couldn't help themselves with the speculation and baiting

The trash media get blamed for a lot and rightly so, but not everything comes from them - though it's certainly where the more unbalanced commentators seem to get their "information"

BalloonSlayer · 05/03/2023 12:58

Just as an aside, it was John F Kennedy Jr's 3rd Birthday on the day of JFK's funeral. Sad

Later in the day they had a little birthday party for him in the White House. In a book I read, it said that Jackie came in to find Prince Phillip playing with him and he said how much he reminded him of Charles at that age.

AliceOlive · 05/03/2023 13:34

This is how I look at it. It’s all about how you frame things for children. In my family it would be considered very special to share a day like this with your grandpa, and then eternally, an anniversary.

My grandfather had a professor who had mentored him and helped be the making of him. We shared our birthdays and my grandparents, on the day, acted as if that made me the most brilliant little girl on the planet. We would visit this gentleman and his wife on our birthday some years, while he was living. It was a special connection and I remember it fondly.

diddl · 05/03/2023 13:57

I think it was a given that they would be invited.

I guess it's up to them now.

Harry must feel really aggrieved for things to have got so far.

It's not a surprise that both paternal GPs have died & his dad has become King in a short time after his leaving.

So unless he really thought that things would have been resolved to his/their satisfaction by now then this situation was always going to arise.

GrimDamnFanjo · 05/03/2023 14:04

I suspect the Royals have decided to play the long game.
Soon Harry and Meghan will be reaching the dregs of their anecdotes and will be left just to add comments on new events from their own perspective.

Neither have the talent to be successful enough for an independent lifestyle without the cachet of royalty to draw interest.

When you've talked about your frostbitten penis there's not a lot more left!

I suspect an appearance at the Coronation would be a further dialled down version of the Jubilee. They'd be there for the ceremony, several rows back, but not invited to any family events or staying in Royal properties.

So would they accept the public humiliation or decline?
Either way, by extending the invitation the Royal Family win.

Well this is the thing isn't it-there was always going to be limited material.

Unless there is enough to talk about with their daily lives?

They want the speculation! I suspect they also want to keep BP hanging.

I think I read somewhere that there is
a firm deadline for replying to the invitation, which would be understandable from an organisational point of view

Well said!

They are running out of material and rightly shunned by people who don't want a starring role in their next book or Netflix hash.

Plitvice · 05/03/2023 16:17

I'm sure that Buck House has enough to worry about besides them. I think it would be a highly effective gesture if they made full provision for their attendance and even allocated specific seat and roles. If they did not turn up, then it would feel very obvious who snubbed who as their seats would be left unoccupied and the BBC commentator would highlight it in various ways a hundred times at least!

I didn’t watch it all as it’s too hard going to watch something on my iPhone but have I missed something? Why hysterics re Thailand.

I thought it was obvious from the thread, @Novella4 is saying the UK is a laughing stock because we are having a coronation and we are the only country in the world who do so. I posted the 3 day coronation from 2019 in Thailand to show that poster we are not the only country in the world to have coronations, so if we are the worlds laughing stock, the world must be in hysterics at Thailands coronation which is longer and more elaborate than ours.

BalloonSlayer · 05/03/2023 16:50

My prediction is:

  • they will come, because anyone who is anyone will be there, and they will want to be part of that set, and MORE IMPORTANTLY Harry does love his Dad and will want to be there
  • Archie and Lilibet will be made Prince and Princess on the morning of the coronation.
AliceOlive · 05/03/2023 17:10

@LadyVictoriaSponge yeah, I’m not impressed with anyone judging and laughing at another culture/country’s traditions. It just comes across as ignorant to me.

@MrsFinkelstein

Oh 'kind of correct' ??
Can you not even bring yourself to admit only the uk continues with this ridiculous coronation

Chuck cannot now say 'god is saying I'm king' but they've kept every other relic and snake oil rite they can - why ? Because they can get away with it and it helps maintain the myth so the susceptible can be duped.

Anointing with oil happens at baptism and death in most religions but it's not done out of sight - under a canopy ! So why at the con a nation is the act hidden ?
Why hide it ?
To create mystery . It's ludicrous. Because God has waited for the olive oil daub to commune with Chuck and the subjects mustn't see .

Laughable
THAT is why the UK is a laughing stock

Other countries call it an inauguration.

When it comes down to it, whether you call it an inauguration or coronation (or even swearing in), both words mean 'a set of ceremonies, containing traditional elements that have been adapted to today's world, to recognise the installation of a new head of state'.

And there is such a ceremony for many, many countries, including various hereditary monarchies as well as countries with an elected head of state.
