If King Charles asked people not to boo the couple and did a deal with newspapers and TV to not print pictures of them or comment on their appearance, do you think they would come.

If there was a total news blackout where they were concerned (which I would just love!) so we didn't have to even see them, (apart from a passing glimpse), i think I could bear them coming. Daddy clearly want them there. Fatted calf and all that.

Would this get around the problem of them taking the spotlight away from the actual ceremony?

What is the magic hat day?

Novella4 · 04/03/2023 21:03

Do they also cost 100 000 000 plus?

CathyorClaire · 04/03/2023 21:07

Oh stop with the UK being a laughing stock

TBF we're the only European monarchy still indulging this nonsense.

I've been subjected to breathless reports on the consecration of oh-so-special Coronation Olive Oil today.

Surely nothing wrong with a drop of Filippo Berio in a slimmed down monarchy but apparently it's a no.

purpledalmation · 04/03/2023 21:13

I think the chances of the prince of canada appearing has now gone down. Was sure he would come, but the fact the Froggy Cott lease was effectively given notice 1 day after Waaaagh was published makes me think the King did respond very quickly as his 'line in the sand' was an attack on Camilla, and that happened.

Another thing I found interesting is that the Queen (E2) gifted froggy cottage (the lease) to harry and meghan and now charles has withdrawn that gift. She also gifted H&M the title duke and duchess of sussex, so I wonder if the duo carry on with the attacks, those titles will go too? Sticky ground for haz and megsie. Megsie will think twice, but Haz is like a runaway train!

Who knows?

it feels like they’ve posted about 100 000 000 times though …

Reading some of these comments anyone would think you were made to watch the coronation. You can just slope off for a quiet drink you know?

Harry and Megan should attend.

It's more than Charles's it's Harry's birth right and position in history. I hope he goes and his dc.
Camillas are there Harry's should be.

People forget this on all the stripping title nonsense. You Csnt strip away who Harry is and looking at history he should be there.

He's stolen the show at all the recent royal events and I hope he takes his rightful historical place to steal the show again...

I think you'll find stripping titles is pretty easy if they keep up their campaign. Charles has proved that with the cottage.

As for stealing the limelight, yes, but for all the wrong reasons.

I think just Harry will come but I'm not a betting woman.

You're kind of correct in that we're the only European Royals to still call it a Coronation.

The other European Royals still have big fancy ceremonies, wear fancy clothes, and have events lasting up to 3 days. They just call them inauguration, and they skip the bit with putting the Crown on. To all intents it's really much the same.

If the UK are a laughing stock then the world must be in hysterics at Thailand.

@MrsFinkelstein

Oh 'kind of correct' ??
Can you not even bring yourself to admit only the uk continues with this ridiculous coronation

Chuck cannot now say 'god is saying I'm king' but they've kept every other relic and snake oil rite they can - why ? Because they can get away with it and it helps maintain the myth so the susceptible can be duped.

Anointing with oil happens at baptism and death in most religions but it's not done out of sight - under a canopy ! So why at the con a nation is the act hidden ?
Why hide it ?
To create mystery . It's ludicrous. Because God has waited for the olive oil daub to commune with Chuck and the subjects mustn't see .

Laughable
THAT is why the UK is a laughing stock

LadyVictoriaSponge · 04/03/2023 23:19

I don’t think the royal family section is the right place for you @MissTrip82 people muse, discuss, ponder and predict on what the RF do, to say the OP is deranged and insane is bang out of order so do yourself and others a favour and jog on.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 04/03/2023 23:26

Looks like Charles maybe taking your advice onboard @Novella4 hopefully that will stop the tittering in the back row.

Harry and Meghan and the coronation.
Price21210 · 05/03/2023 02:57

Why does Charles want Harry there? I mean, in my opinion he doesn't treat Harry or his children very well. I wouldn't go if I were Harry and Charles would not see Archie and Lilibet again.

Price21210 · 05/03/2023 03:49

Keep in mind that the coronation is on Harry's son's birthday. I don't see Harry putting this coronation over his son's special day.

I didn’t watch it all as it’s too hard going to watch something on my iPhone but have I missed something? Why hysterics re Thailand.

Did anyone else hear the BBC announcement about this? "The oil has been consecrated in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, said to be the site of Jesus' crucifixion"
Christianity is dead in the land if no one in the whole of the BBC spotted the mistake..

Good lord. Google exists, you know. Maybe check it out before claiming others have made mistakes through ignorance…?

I think you have misunderstood.
I wasn't claiming that the BBC had the wrong place for the consecration, rather that they might have known that the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was not the place of the crucifixion. No one gets crucified in a tomb.
Now had they said "place of burial" or even "place of resurrection"....

purpledalmation · 05/03/2023 08:16

The Uk isn't a laughing stock because it has ceremonies dating back thousands of years (and does them really well). Communities are very attached to their past and the coronation ceremony connects us back to medieval times, giving the world a glimpse into the past.

A church wedding ceremony is exactly the same in that it is a tradition stretching back centuries. The white dress is relatively new, but the wording the order and flowers etc are traditional. Is everyone attending a traditional wedding there just to laugh?

People attending the summer solstice at Stonehenge as the druids did, laughing too?

Should the Scot's get rid of the kilt because it's a traditional dress like the horse guards ? Are they laughing stocks too?

Are the millions of people all over the world going to be sitting there laughing? Of course not, they will be enjoying the spectacle. People are genuinely interested in tradition. Even the Americans have days they dress in Independence soldiers uniforms and perform mock battles.

Let's ban everything and have a grey, dull world where we don't mention tradition. Bit like Russia...although I see they hang on to the splendid royal palaces!

Ooops - You may have point!

From Wiki
The exact location of Calvary has been traditionally associated with a place now enclosed within one of the southern chapels of the multidenominational Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

But I still think it would be better to describe it as "the place of resurrection"

Oh a 'transparent canopy'
Well why didn't they say ?!
That's all perfectly reasonable isn't it ?
That's not a confused acknowledgment that it's all nonsense at all!

Novella4 · 05/03/2023 09:16

I've just realised that IF they use a transparent canopy for Chuck - will they do the same for his partner in crime ? Or will Camilla be hidden ?

And why exactly is Camilla being anointed ?
'Protocol ' you say ?
To help Charles in his role as head of the church ?
Of course she is

I dunno, he left to play polo on Archies birthday last year.

And KC won't have picked the date: it would be a joint decision by the Govt, Police, Security Servies, Church, Foreign Office, Palace, to take into account weather, already scheduled big events, schedules of other Heads of State.
