If King Charles asked people not to boo the couple and did a deal with newspapers and TV to not print pictures of them or comment on their appearance, do you think they would come.

If there was a total news blackout where they were concerned (which I would just love!) so we didn't have to even see them, (apart from a passing glimpse), i think I could bear them coming. Daddy clearly want them there. Fatted calf and all that.

Would this get around the problem of them taking the spotlight away from the actual ceremony?

I don’t know why I put Brits Winnie, my apologies if I offended anyone over that. I think it may be that I’d just watched the bit where they booed Charles and other side of the crowd sang ‘God Save The King’. I’m not from the UK. I’d never heard the ‘king’ bit sung before.

I think that, and that I’m trying stronger antihistamines, (prescription ones), and they’ve made me feel a bit drunk and strange. I Won’t be taking them anymore. I actually came back to see/check what I posted, because I was telling my husband something a bit earlier and I was struggling to find the right words. It’s wearing off now thank heavens.

@Cam22 I used to be like this. But it's absolutely pointless to judge a person's grammar or typos on a discussion forum. Not everyone has English as their first language, for starters.

But all it really comes down to is that you don't have an argument to counter someone's point. So you pick on a typo. It's very weak.

They’re not typographical errors. They’re proper errors. I wouldn’t waste my time on such posts.

As for “weak”?! Is that the best YOU can do?😆😆

WinnieTheW0rm · 19/02/2023 06:53

Why "some Brits" as if we're some different group?

(Sorry, just curious, as that's not what I'd have expected on a British site, rather just "some people" ie some of us)

Exactly. How rude.

WinnieTheW0rm · 19/02/2023 20:49

I wasn't offended @Morestrangethings - really just mildly curious

I hope you get the meds sorted out, and soon!

Last time there was a king was 1952, so you'd have to be about 75 to remember the National Anthem sung that way!

I’m sorry @AliceOlive - I think you misunderstood me. Black people in the US (at least the black people I now) all ascribe to the one drop rule- the issue that I was taking with a previous commenter was that the misunderstanding of the very real need for black people and people of colour to hold space in their tent for all people who are not phenotypically white.

The one drop rule was instituted and applied by white supremacy - this disenfranchised the children of slaveowners and continued post slavery in ensuring that anyone who was not demonstrating would not be afforded the privileges inherent with being white. Black people have continued to accept people of mixed race under the tent of blackness to allow people to take the framework to navigate a world which can be hostile to them. I clarified the definition of the one drop rule because there was a white mother of a mixed race child who felt that this rule negated her child’s white heritage (and that it was black racism which created the one drop rule) - which I was trying to assure wasn’t the case. As the mother of a mixed race children myself - my children’s white heritage and culture is as important as mine, however it would be foolish of me and my husband to not give them the tools to be aware that having a white father will not protect them from the hooligans who will racially abuse them (happened to my 12 year old last week).

You've been spot on throughout @skullbabe.🌻

Thought I'd try to resurrect this thread to ask if the chances ofHarry turning up at the coronation were now more unlikely after the removal of the lease on frogmore cottage? I know it goes until June, but this removal alone is a major snub and I wonder if it's likely to mean he decides against coming?

Before I thought he would turn up alone but now not so sure.

ArcaneWireless · 04/03/2023 18:26

I really don’t think it is a major snub to be removed. He made it clear his life was not here and is creating a lovely life (hopefully) for his family in the sunshine. There are plenty of places to stay should he/they choose to visit.

The cottage should not be a factor in his decision to attend. He has his own home now.

pilates · 04/03/2023 18:29

Or heaven forbid stay in a top hotel in London or is that not the done thing in Royal circles?

Plenty of rooms in Windsor and bucking palace. I'm sure they could find the odd broom cupboard 😂

Hmm, looking like'Uncle' Joe can't be bothered glamming up for the Coronation. One can expect more heads of state to make their excuses and send the Ambo... Soft power my arse then.... whilst 'Ruritanian' Middle East despots will chuck in a shopping trip to Harrod's and a visit to the London mistress.

WinnieTheW0rm · 04/03/2023 18:42

Someone linked a newspaper article to a thread about this. It was from June 2021, talking about what they had paid and that this secured them an 18month lease. Looks like they've had this extended by 6mths to June this year, so it's a pretty good deal for them, not least as no-one is talking about paying more rent to cover those months (non-working royals are meant to pay, as Andrew is finding out now and various others found out when they had the clearout from KP)

They will never be sort of a secure Royal base when they visit (lots of suites in BP and there must be other options too).

purpledalmation · 04/03/2023 18:51

@WinnieTheW0rm I wonder if Andrew's ex rental could become some kind of office complex, or something they rent out to their charities for very cheap rents. I have a relative who lives on the estate in Sandringham. Gorgeous (if cramped) old workmen's cottages with a huge garden and the rent is tiny. Not employees. Lots are lived in by elderly people who have been their years and now have security until death at a tiny rental.

If you knew anything about coronations, you’d know that Heads of State generally don’t attend them. The US has always sent representatives, and not the president. It was always the protocol that other monarchs didn’t attend. Countries where the UK monarch is head of state send their governors-general. Most send ambassadors. So, sorry, but a complete non-story born of ignorance.

AliceOlive · 04/03/2023 20:20

Yeah; I think it would be extremely weird for an American President to attend a coronation. Or bow to the King of another country.

CathyorClaire · 04/03/2023 20:21

I doubt they paid a penny in rent in the first place.

The only payment ever made was the £2.4m refurb costs and that somehow came to include eighteen month's 'market rent' without actually increasing.

I think they've been taking financial lessons in 'rent payment' from Papa who took his rent on Highgrove from one pocket and got it returned to another.

I believe Andrew's deal was a lump sum payment buying him a 75 year lease and equivalent to £250 per week over the term of the lease rather than actually coughing up £1k a month every month. Edward has a similarly sweet deal on the ever so many rooms he can swan about in at Bagshot.

CathyorClaire · 04/03/2023 20:31

I wonder if Andrew's ex rental could become some kind of office complex, or something they rent out to their charities for very cheap rents.

You'd think but despite there being endless nooks and crannies that could have been used as offices available at BP and/or KP, Willy still chose to rent off-site premises for the Earthshot posing.

TBF Andrew did actually use BP space for Pitch@Palace but unsurprisingly that turned out to be a bit of a scummy enterprise so not an ideal example of the practice.

Novella4 · 04/03/2023 20:32

Biden knows what's what
Good for him

And why should Charlie care ? He'll have all his little tin pot 'kings ' and 'queens' there to play dress up with

Oh wait . Made up totally official protocol says no other 'kings' allowed .
Oh wait , Charlie's monarchy is a modern monarchy ( make it make sense !) so now the new made up totally official protocol says they can come to play .

No wonder the UK is a laughing stock

LadyVictoriaSponge · 04/03/2023 20:39

Oh stop with the UK being a laughing stock, this stupid phrase is trotted out for everything these days, yeah sure the world was cringing watching the Queen’s funeral, all the Heads of state could barely contain their laughter during the service. Try and be a bit more original with your hyperbole.

The Queen’s funeral was last September 🤔

CathyorClaire · 04/03/2023 20:45

Maybe Biden got pissed off at slumming it 14 rows back at the funeral...

Novella4 · 04/03/2023 20:56

You are living in cloud cuckoo land if you think the interest that there may have been in Betty's magic hat day will be repeated for Chuck

As I said . Laughing stock

ArcaneWireless · 04/03/2023 20:59

Och I don’t know. There are bigger laughing stocks around.

They pop up with alarming regularity.
