If King Charles asked people not to boo the couple and did a deal with newspapers and TV to not print pictures of them or comment on their appearance, do you think they would come.

If there was a total news blackout where they were concerned (which I would just love!) so we didn't have to even see them, (apart from a passing glimpse), i think I could bear them coming. Daddy clearly want them there. Fatted calf and all that.

Would this get around the problem of them taking the spotlight away from the actual ceremony?

Those nitpickers clearly have a lot of time on their hands. What time is it now in the US of A? Bet they supported Trump too.

teeny tiny phone keyboards are just a way of making you give up lol!

Not helped by the fact I'm refusing to get varifocals and have to lift my glasses up to read as they are distance only! 🤣

get varifocals. I have them, they really are a life change.

jeffgoldblum · 17/02/2023 16:07

I would @Samcro , but I was cursed with a tiny pinhead and normal sized specs look like I'm wearing my dads glasses or I'm an owl! , and unfortunately you can't fit varifocals in my sized lenses ( I used to work in various opticians for many years!) . Sadly I now have age related dry eye syndrome and cannot wear contact lenses anymore, I was considering getting varifocal contact lenses before this happened.

Lens implants!!! I had from a kid a 7+ lens and looked like this photo.
Very expensive, but worth every penny. Perfect vision and can even read the tiny iphone 6S screen

@purpledalmation , when was that? , I'm only -2.50 -1.25 x 35 R eye and similar in the left ( lower though!) , only recently have my cyls increased, so my vision wasn't that bad , just the presbyopia that's upset the Apple cart! , I was going to have laser surgery years ago ( staff discount!) but decided not to bother then ( bummer now) , but I thought lens implants were only for certain prescriptions or issues?

Was this meant for a different thread?

purpledalmation · 17/02/2023 20:58

@jeffgoldblum I've had then now 11 years, from mid 30s, still perfect which amazes me every day. Should definitely have had the laser surgery. Mine was £5K with an NHS discount. Best money I'd ever spent I think. +7 is ridiculous 😳

What were you saying about ‘nitpickers’?

Cam22 · 18/02/2023 11:12

Grammar is very important. If people’s posts contain grammatical errors, I judge. As do other people.

adrianmolesmole · 18/02/2023 12:43

@Cam22 I used to be like this. But it's absolutely pointless to judge a person's grammar or typos on a discussion forum. Not everyone has English as their first language, for starters.

But all it really comes down to is that you don't have an argument to counter someone's point. So you pick on a typo. It's very weak.

AliceOlive · 18/02/2023 12:55

I do not mind typos and autocorrect fails, or even poor grammar if I cannot figure out what the author is trying to say.

Also, I think we naturally deduce intelligence/class from grammar, even if we don’t mean to do so.

If someone writes in a way that causes me to think English is a second language for them, I’m automatically impressed.

The poster Cam22 is complaining about is I suspect, just careless. She posts prolifically, as if it were a duty. She knows how to spell and use proper grammar, but had indicated she can’t be bothered. I doubt pointing it out repeatedly is going to do anything to change this.

adrianmolesmole · 18/02/2023 13:40

She posts prolifically, as if it were a duty

She's not the only one. There are certain others, on the other side of the debate, who are on here 24/7 and reply vociferously to every post they disagree with.

Absolutely. Even I can admit I do this sometimes on various topics, though usually only for a few days.

The point I meant to make though was that she doesn’t care about grammar or spelling so it’s going to be pointless (and tedious) if someone follows her around correcting posts.

I judge people who do this. Nasty and childish

Cam22 · 18/02/2023 21:15

Who cares? I judge people too. Must check your posted for errors in order to find suitable labels for you.🙂

Cam22 · 18/02/2023 21:20

That old chestnut about only using grammar accurately when you can “be bothered” is hilarious!

If you KNOW how to do something it comes automatically, you cannot post incorrectly because you’ve decided to be off duty. Utterly daft reasoning.😆

SirChenjins · 13/02/2023 08:48

@Morestrangethings there was booing - re-watch and turn up your volume. If you're still not convinced then google 'Harry Meghan booing' and you'll see it was widely covered in the media (and not just the media belonging to the Murdoch empire).

I’m not going to watch, but I’ll accept there was booing. After yesterday’s booing of King Charles, (which I did see here), I think it must be something some Brits like to do.

WinnieTheW0rm · 19/02/2023 06:53

Why "some Brits" as if we're some different group?

(Sorry, just curious, as that's not what I'd have expected on a British site, rather just "some people" ie some of us)
