If King Charles asked people not to boo the couple and did a deal with newspapers and TV to not print pictures of them or comment on their appearance, do you think they would come.

If there was a total news blackout where they were concerned (which I would just love!) so we didn't have to even see them, (apart from a passing glimpse), i think I could bear them coming. Daddy clearly want them there. Fatted calf and all that.

Would this get around the problem of them taking the spotlight away from the actual ceremony?

People watched them on Netflix and read Spare because it’s a trainwreck. Don’t mistake morbid interest for respect. It’s entertainment. Some of the most watched shows are about sociopaths and murders.

SirChenjins · 16/02/2023 12:06

raise awareness??

Bloody hell, that's low. I think there was enough awareness without MM's input.

Surely it’s so simple that even a couple of simpletons like them can understand.

If they deign to attend - and apparently the king wants them there - they will be relegated to a second class guest tier.
I would actually love to see them fuming - again. Lol

H&M are being compared to sociopaths and murderers now?

The H&M hate universe is quite bizarre.

No such thing as 'enough awareness' on any tragedy. Ever. You call out everyone who can spread the news - especially those who have a following that has a history of raising funds for charities.

She did (Uvalde) to raise her own profile

In fairness the rest of the RF do the same when visiting disaster areas, but at least they try not to make it quite so obvious

I was surprised not to see it included in the Netflix six parter though; maybe it's being saved for some future "look at us" production

In the US, we expect the President, Governor and locally elected officials to shown up to disasters. The RF visits in UK are akin to that.

In US, MM is a private citizen. She has no role here. One can’t even claim she’s confused about that after a lifetime of being a UK Royal who needed to represent the family at times. It’s solely for her own publicity.

No, their Netflix special is being compared to shows that draw the same level of interest. People are curious about them, in the way they are about anyone famous for any reason.

But you are a master at picking out one comment and trying to twist the conversation.

Uvalde was an obvious publicity stunt. A swing and a miss. Admit you didn’t know the difference between States and you maybe you’d actually gain some credibility. H&M are in the same Chinese finger trap. They will not ever admit to any errors, and that’s why they lack any gravitas in the US.

God she has NO self awareness at all, does she? Ghastly person.

notanotheroneagain · 16/02/2023 12:33

If she wanted that she would have swan in at centre stage, with curtsies and special treatment just like the royals.

She came as one of the plebs to lay flowers and pay her respects. The press noticed her? So be it, she raised money for that playground on the back of it. A small tangible positivity for the school.

You all would have been criticism how she did not go less than 80miles away from her home. She had the opportunity, she went.

Exactly, AliceOlive, except that I'm not sure she ever fully understood that she was there to represent the institution rather than herself

To be clear there's nothing wrong with a private citizen laying a tribute - I'd do it myself (and have) if I'm in the area - but most of are capable of leaving it at that rather than making sure our photogs have got the right picture

AliceOlive · 16/02/2023 12:40

No, that just doesn’t float in the US. We saw the setup. The photographers surrounding her. The press release from her PR people.

You can fool yourself, no one else is fooled by it.

Also, we don’t have “plebs” here. Comments like that demonstrate values.

“No one complained about the money paid out to renovate froggmore cottage until after the couple decided to leave.”

Unfortunately this is not true - they were being criticised for Frogmore before (copper bathtub anyone?)

Yes. They were criticised by women at a social occasion, at the time Frogmore Whateveritis was first mentioned for them. I thought at the time that the women had been reading a newspaper that morning, which told them what to think.

Same women, a few month's earlier, moaning that it was tradition for royal mothers to appear on steps about 3 hours after giving birth, and I guess that was because the paper had told them to think that, too.

notanotheroneagain · 16/02/2023 12:45

*that is 80 miles from San Antario airport, since the touchy are so nit picky.

Absolutely true. What can be more entertaining than two privileged people doing their utmost to destroy the credibility of both sides of their family. Now that they've trashed the royal family and poor misguided Tomas, there's not much left. The Netflix series about inspirational leaders that they were shoehorned into, wasn't a raging success, just an average success. It's not Harry and Meghan who are the pulling power it is the royal family whose privacy has been blown apart by malicious and untrue stories. Now they've shot that particular bolt they have only their 'talent' to fall back on.

Good luck with that.

Making sure you are seen is removing your mask in the middle of masked crowds during covid. So a reporter who is (apparently off duty) can take a suddenly opportune pic and give it to their editors quickly for print.

notanotheroneagain · 16/02/2023 12:51

Their 'talent' was shown in the podcast that was highly viewed (knocking Rogan off the top at some point)won a people's choice award and was not about the royals.

ThighMistress · 16/02/2023 12:52

@notanotheroneagain I think you’ll have people engaging s bit more politely if you just admit the “state” mistake.

But as for Meghan was just going as a pleb… riiiiiight. Why the photos if she were in disguise? Why the press release?

Similarly the Remembrance Day (or, maybe it was Veterans Day, can’t remember) appearance: no wandering down to the Montecito memorial, no, it was turning up with camera crew at a prominent site.

Really? You think that a tragedy of this magnitude and horror with all the deeply personal grief and shock needs a sleb rocking up to 'raise awareness'? Who benefitted from this exposure and photographs, do you think? (It was MM, in case you hasn't guessed).

The money she 'raised' for the playground was another one of their famous 'partnerships' and built by volunteers.

We are all going to get a big surprise on the day when Justin Welby says, 'Dearly beloved, three days ago, I in my dufflecoat and big hat, he bareheaded in the sunlight, after marmalade sandwiches in the backyard..'

ThighMistress · 16/02/2023 12:57

Also, just wondering, is Spare still selling? There was the initial mania, but is anyone going to buy it today, say?

I’ve read so many extracts that I wouldn’t even part with £1.50 when it hits the charity shop.

What's he going to do? Anybody who boos gets their heads chopped off? 😂

It benefited the school that got the playground, that's who.
