Archbishop of Canterbury get Harry to attend Coronation

The Mail on Sunday are claiming that Charles has asked the Archbishop to talk to Harry to get him to attend the Coronation. But William is against this as he fears the Sussex's will detract from the Coronation.

"Harry could be guaranteed a high-profile seating position in the Abbey or an informal assurance that he will be able to keep his titles as an inducement to attend. However, William fears that unless Harry’s visit is tightly scripted, he could steal the limelight by, for example, going on a walkabout in a deprived London borough with Meghan."

I'm afraid I smile at the Harry dilemma - when the King and Queen are a pair of blatant adulterers one of whom is to be Head of the Church of England and pledges to uphold Christian values which presumably include the 7th Commandment right?

Harry is alright, it's the weasel Willie that I'd have my eye on. Charlie is lost, I often ask myself what would his late father do in similar circumstances and I think the answer is a boot up the backside, and add indifference from his late mother. Well that was how his life went and it probably has gone to the next generation via Charles who always seems to have a poker up his nether regions.

At the end of the day, there is no need for this Coronation. But Charles has already reneged on his "slimming" it down. His ego won't allow that of course, so the circus goes on.

You are my new favourite poster.😁

The hypocrisy of the whole thing is amusing: the whole "God anoints the monarch" and God wants a man and woman to marry for life so God does not want same sex marriage in the Church of England, but God is also okay to have this adulterous king and his adulterous mistress anointed and crowned in the Church of England and become its head because they and only they have been chosen by God.

Other European Royals don't need the bells and whistles of coronations. Because they have written constitutions, making provision for monarchies as head of state. Not this archaic stuff a King appointed by the God of a church that the majority of his subjects no longer believe in, at the tope of a "Royal Family" that operates not transparently and professionally but through back biting, gossip and counter briefings like it's still a medieval court and there is real power at stake.

It's a con. I love Meghan and Harry because they expose it while lighting it up and making it a more fun soap opera for some of us. With dazzling smiles and nice clothes.

I think you're a bit out of touch there. The divine right of kings disappeared 350 years ago with William III's accession.

The church and history are really not your strong suits. Why not read up about when you're searching out Royal Peculiars?

Sorry typo: anointed is the word I meant to write, not appointed.

The one bit of the Coronation I am looking forward to actually, because I love Handel.

Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, anointed Solomon KING!
And all the people rejoiced, rejoiced, rejoiced!

The bathos of it is that Handel's stirring coronation anthem has been also adopted as the Champions League anthem. Am sure more than a few people will wonder why it is playing at the Coronation😁

Harry might not want to be there. He has said nothing.

I may be wrong, but I would imagine that both Harry and Meghan would like to be at such a significant and historic event.
It would be a good boost for their media profile.

Maireas · 30/01/2023 20:02

God doesn't do the anointing, the Archbishop does.
God's probably a bit busy elsewhere.

She was initially believed to be hispanic or just a hot tanned girl in Suits. Her african american father was introduced very very late in the day. In her (own words) in a magazine article (Elle) the program received a lot of hostile comments relating to MM being mixed race/black father etc, and were nasty and racist. Hence MMs statement saying she was never subjected to racism until she arrived in the UK is a clear lie. The Elle article was in 2015 and year before she met Harry

The Archbishop's anointing authority is from his boss, God. It's meant to be a divine anointment.

*Coronations like those still held in England are associated with a biblical theology of kingship. The monarch is given a divine and priestly commissioning like Israelite kings Saul, David and Solomon in the Old Testament.

Over time, European coronations shifted from primarily emphasising divine commissioning to responsibilities before the law and to the people. The British coronation retains all these elements.*

😂😂😂
I was wondering if you thought I believed that God would turn up at the Abbey and anoint Charles, then maybe hang around at the buffet afterwards 😂😂!!

If I was Harry I would take the money. Why go to London to be publicly frozen out by your family and have all the Royalists attack you on social media.

I don't really like what H&M are doing but 100% Harry should go for the commentator gig, he'll have fun and get $$$. He is of course bing exploited by US media but he feels like a super star for now so will lap it all up.

Party time for Harry.

Once the 👑is over and done with, Harry's 15 min of US fame will fade. And then it will be hard for him.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 30/01/2023 21:02

@BellasBench

Given his admitted weak grasp on the history of his own family, I can see him sipping tequila and just pointing out people: that's the archbishop, he married us, ... twice! etc etc.

It would be a riot😃

CathyorClaire · 30/01/2023 21:04

Harry could be guaranteed a high-profile seating position in the Abbey or an informal assurance that he will be able to keep his titles as an inducement to attend.

Well Edward apparently had an informal assurance he was to get the DofE gong so I wouldn't lay much store on anything the fork-tongued royals promise.

Apart from that the question has to be what's in it for them to bribe induce his attendance?

And the public was assured Camilla would be called Princess Consort so you may be right there about royal promises 😁

@purpledalmation except she did not say that

Not so. Robert Zane first appeared in Suits in Season 2. There were 9 seasons so certainly not "late in the day."

Meghan is very popular amongst black people. She would be very welcomed in some London boroughs.

Really? What is your source for this or is it just speculation?

CathyorClaire · 30/01/2023 21:28

Let's not forget the 'slimmed down monarchy' and the £100m coronation...

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 30/01/2023 15:24

Perhaps H&M could skip the public one and just attend the 'real one' the week before in the garden?

Spot on! 😂😂😂

SenecaFallsRedux · 30/01/2023 21:33

Charles and Camilla did not promise or assure anyone that she would be called Princess Consort. The words used were "plan" and "intention." Plans and intentions can change with time. And the late Queen clearly put her stamp of approval on Camilla using the title Queen. And the fact remains that she would be Queen no matter what she was called, just as she was Princess of Wales after her marriage until the late Queen died.

Oh God, if they come are they going to waft down the aisle holding hands?
Please, someone impress upon them the difference between a formal event and date night.

You mean like Zara and Tindall also did at the Queen's lying in state?

Quite. Are Black people of one mind, or a section of the population with varied beliefs and outlooks?.
