The "Where's Meghan" Question Has Been Definitively Answered ...

MrsMaxDeWinter · 30/01/2023 11:50

She's been busy!

I hope that those who expressed concern will be happy to know that she has been working with the Archewell team on their just released Impact Report.

Meghan and Harry are polarising figures but there is no doubt that they have galvanising power to get projects, both little and big, off the ground.

Harry, with William and Kate, was a co-founder of the Royal Foundation in 2011. They had a start-up fund of just under 5 million pounds, of which 1.3 million pounds was given away in grants.

10 yrs later, Harry and Meghan set up Archewell, with start up funds of 13 million dollars, and give away three million dollars in grants.

As with both foundations, the reserve is carried over.

The range of their projects is interesting, from working with the Vaccine Alliance to raise private sector contributions to distribute vaccines, endowing academic fellowships, working with partners in resettling refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan, working with World Central Kitchens, to smaller projects like the Uvalde community playground and park and a really cute project to a small charity that gives free hair braiding to young black girls in Texas.

I am so pleased for them, their advisors and staff as this is a dream start for any start up. I have long been sceptical that they may have spread themselves too thinly, so I am glad to see they are now focusing on just three areas, as they find their groove.

‘anyone else who makes positive comments’

Why on earth would I care about that? Unlike some posters I believe in the freedom of speech. No skin off my nose if people want to wax lyrical or criticise. Crack on. What I don’t like is the cancel culture, the shouting down of any criticism or any mildly negative comment. And labelling people that don’t agree as haterz and racistz. And it wasn’t me that started posting links to articles to criticise other posters, I just followed suit to make a point. I don’t think it’s right to be followed around and harassed on mumsnet, or have personal digs made. It’s just bullying. I also don’t understand the posters who hype Meghan and Harry and slag off the rest of the royals in order to hype Megan and Harry. They’re all part of the same family - they’re all a bunch of privileged nepo babies who behave in an entitled and sometimes humorous way! Although, not when they bully their staff, that’s terrible and I hope it’s all properly exposed soon. No wonder Harry is desperate to gag the press, he’s prob worried about leaks on stuff that’s legitimately damaging. No wonder he’s so keen to divert public interest with his embarrassing ‘lads on tour’ and ‘fear and loathing in Las Windsor’ anecdotes. He also seems to have a poor grasp of how the media operates, as well as modern pr and spin - as well as what celebrity and fame entail. His simplistic reductive interpretation either means he isn’t very bright or he has a sinister agenda. I do find it disturbing that he thinks as a mega rich royal white man he should be able to control the free press. Kim Jong-un Vibes - not cool or funny. He seems to think the general public are quite thick and so impressionable, that he can get them on board with a couple of dick stories and by exploiting his own childhood trauma. Very manipulative.

Neowulf · 01/02/2023 23:44

Trump also wanted to gag the free press and threw tantrums over unfavourable headlines. He also tried to control narratives, and came up with alternative facts, just like Harry’s warped definition of reality and his memory. I can also imagine trump talking about a conveyor belt of women. They’re more alike than they probably realise.

I am not bragging as I don't consider myself a super fan but as well I won't snivel if that's used to try and insult me. I am comparing the two and My point is if I am to be one which I guess is what you are insinuating or anyone else who makes positive comments or threads about M&H - I would rather be a superfan - than obsessed with hate and negativity on an anonymous forum.

But super fans use hate and negativity in order to prop up their idol.
In order to support the object of their fandom, they must bring someone else down.

That’s what tips it from ‘general supporter’ to ‘super fan’

Meghan super fans must bring Kate down, just as Nicki fans must bring down Cardi, and Selena fans with Hayley.

Maybe the ‘haters’ are actually just super fans of the RF?
it’s all about the way you frame it, surely?

Neowulf · 02/02/2023 00:05

Succinctly put! They also pour their scorn and contempt on posters who disagree with them. So yes, it’s the super fans dealing in the currency of negativity and hate!

PreparationPreparationPrep · 02/02/2023 00:22

So why does even Justine call you Deranged then?

BillLius · 02/02/2023 07:02

No one has stalked me across other threads. ☹️ I’m clearly not important enough and that makes me sad 😔

Ohnonevermind · 02/02/2023 07:38

Certain posters get very upset if you point out any flaws in their idolatry.

I’m afraid the sweeping over the top pronouncements such as MM doesn’t donate she empowers etc and excusing of the lying (it’s what she felt) and embellishing (12.6m vaccines) bring out the devils advocate in me.

queenofarles · 02/02/2023 08:44

Some of these fans are just weird , it’s starting to resemble a cult , you have fans, super fans, die hard fans, squad?

grown ups buying multiple copies of spare, urging others to donate on Archie’s birthday, and so on,
they are no different from those die hard Trump supporters ,

hoooops · 02/02/2023 08:56

Meanwhile there's a whole thread about how awful Kate is for raising awareness of the importance of early years. On a parenting site. 🤯

Probably some sort of special interest thing.

I know. It beggars belief. I've given up posting on that one.

Neowulf · 02/02/2023 09:28

(Maybe Justine has just seen threads started about Meghan and all the name mentions but hasn’t bothered to read through the threads with a fine toothed comb. Because if she had, she’d prob have noticed it’s the super fans that keep drawing attention to meghan. Mostly, it’s the people who don’t like hypocrisy or one sided worship that feel compelled to respond and point out the contradictions rather than unthinkingly swallow the alternative facts 😁 I’ve also seen lots of posts by the super fans get deleted for taking the name calling too far, and lots of whole threads deleted too because of the blatant 🧦 puppetry and their goady nature, which directly challenges the ‘haterz racisz but Justine sed it’ narrative you’re trying to establish).

Samcro · 02/02/2023 09:35

good grief people do like to re write history. it wasn't the pro posters that stalked and trolled pro posters. name changed and trolled mn when banned. set up a separate forum where they discussed pro posters in the most vile way.
its not the pro posters who have started 100's of threads to rip H&M apart.

Ohnonevermind · 02/02/2023 09:36

The Pro fans starting threads about her then wailing at anyone who makes any critical comment ‘why won’t you just leave her alone, you won’t be happy till she’s dead’ and other such nonsense.

it’s incredibly strange.

Neowulf · 02/02/2023 09:42

Yes I’ve seen that too, lots of pot stirring hoping to get a reaction then kicking up an almighty fuss. Same strategy when I was harassed on another thread, called me boring, pitiful, weird, obsessed and pathetic I think. Clearly poking me to get a reaction. Even when I didn’t stoop to their level, they still flounced as though they were the injured party! 🤯😂

Also they accused me of obsessively posting, I’m a longtime lurker and very rare poster so that’s a lie, they also said I hated Harry and Meghan, which I don’t, whilst I enjoy their comedy value I’m pretty neutral about them. It’s interesting how they try and mislead other posters by using these same accusations against anyone they disagree with. It’s quite sneaky and strategic to try and tarnish another posters rep online like that. Oh well, I’ll return to lurking soon and there’s always name change if I bother returning.

Ohnonevermind · 02/02/2023 09:47

I’ve posted positives about Meghan on other threads, that she’s attractive, she’s intelligent and seems a hard worker, but anything less than 100% adoration and you’re a deranged hater

What a load of tosh!

You cannot equate a few posters who are kicking back against the years and upwards of 600 threads denigrating H&M and seeing off anyone who disagreed with them, to the current climate of a couple of posters posting a more positive thread. And sticking up for themselves. I have seen these more positive posters gracious and polite after being called any number of names and ridiculed.

You have no idea what a few of us went through on MN since Meghan came on the scene. @Samcro has it. MNHQ were involved a lot, posters were banned, then came back again and again (one boasted she had rejoined 12 times!) to carry on their vile attacks. We were trolled, whole threads were deleted on a daily basis, personal attacks continually and as said... a whole forum set up to ostensibly 'chat' but it was a nasty vicious place with countless posts a day attacking posters like me who didn't loathe Meghan and Harry from day one. And this went on years.

By the way, you can call me what you like. I've had it all. You won't find a new insult. Fangirl, bot, shill, Doria, a SS employee, paid by Meghan, a grey haired old bint who is desperate, a stan... to name but a few

I had to smile at that one, though I've not posted on it; the names of those really sticking the boot in (or "haters" as they like to say) were just SO predictable

FWIW I feel exactly the same as when it's H&M gleaning brownie points for some "initiative" ... it's all self-serving PR, but if it does some good in raising awareness of something genuinely worthy then I guess that's a plus

Ohnonevermind · 02/02/2023 10:04

i was not on mumsnet during those years Rousette to I’ve heard you mention the abuse before on previous threads and commiserated with you before (though one of your superfan buddies accused me of lying about when I joined)

I’ve called you out on hypocritical posts so note the regularity you jump in to insult me and try to dismiss my posts, I clearly touched a nerve there.

Except nobody is saying Kate is awful for raising awareness. They are saying the campaign is ill thought out and will achieve nothing. It has also been criticised by early years experts for the same reason.

Please don't call me a 'superfan'. I find it quite insulting. I just have a different point of view than you, and I don't call you anything derogatory. And I don't insult you... I disagree with you.
Hard to take I know.

She has been called “lightweight”, “a blow dry in a coat” and “lazy” amongst many other derisory names on that thread. 🤷‍♀️

And I disagree with that... because it is the sort of insult used continually about Meghan (although hers are worse.)

I do think the lazy term can be discussed given she is a working paid for member of the royal family.

Neowulf · 02/02/2023 10:15

All that happened years ago did it? So that we can’t verify it? Funny that. I’ve lurked for a while, never saw any of it. If I was very cynical I’d be tempted to think that was exaggerated and made-up and dated in that way to make people think it happened before they joined and to then take your word for it. But as someone who has experienced the exact opposite, sorry I just don’t buy it. Someone called me pathetic etc. then flounced like they were the butt-hurt victim, just cos I made critical comments about bullying, Harry’s violent streak, and also mentioned that it seemed to run in the family.

Also I have to comment on the hyperbole 😂 - sounds almost like an epic battle scene from LOTR rather than some general disagreement on an online forum that goes below the belt sometimes (and in my experience it’s the super fans who regularly go below the belt and goad in the first place, then act the victims). Anyway, work and life beckon, enjoy your Thursday, doubt I’ll return.

@smilesy

if only KM had handed out a few 25 dollar Starbucks vouchers instead, then she could have written an impact statement instead talking about raising the spirits with cups spilling over with joy
