He just sickens me even more after reading about this. What an awful person he must be.

This was my reaction as well. Truly sickening.

SheilaFentiman · 10/01/2023 22:00

Huh?

He is recounting an anecdote from when he was 13 of him and other boys being shitty to a staff member at school. Cruel and rude, yes. “Absolutely disgusting and scum” - that applies to a lot of kids, then.

Do your kids not come home and tell you that the English teacher has a big nose, or Jack had to write an apology letter to the PE teacher for mimicking him, or whatever?

The woman is apparently being named on Twitter.
Its not fair on her at all, as she clearly easily identifiable.

One thing (maybe?) to do it as a kid, but he’s doing it again As an adult. Really not on

NameChangeGin · 10/01/2023 22:10

Oh my gosh. Poor poor Pat.

Yes, young people can be mean, but this is horrible.

Even if you want to excuse it as him being young, then surely in this book he'd talk about how awful he feels now looking back on it? How bad it was of him and how he'd like to apologise to her if he saw her again. Or even use the book to apologise? But no. He actually emphasises how funny he thinks all this is and how he was the one most enthusiastically laughing at her.

Horrible man.

The last sentence makes it sound like he’s doing her a favour. Awful

I agree- context is everything. He even said nothing made him more happier than being able to make her laugh because she quite often laughed with him. But surprise the tabloids didn't get this far.

He is not being pleasant but he is giving an account of himself and his teenage friends in the boarding house. Honestly some of your children must be angels - if you have experience of boarding schools then it gets like this and shocking but so does the school playground. I don't hear my kids talking like this when I'm around but I'm sure at some point they have done similar especially with friends.

Bit off topic but if you want to hear more about boys at this school read Black boy at Eaton.

Does he genuinely think that made her day?
All ‘the boys’ mocking her?

For all you know she was just trying to laugh it off, but was actually hurt.

I would trust a 13 year old boy to know the difference.

Regardless, bank out of order she’s being named on Twitter, he needs to stop dragging others into his ‘let the record show’

MeghanAndTheSeals · 11/01/2023 02:07

I’m amazed that anyone could try to formulate a way to gloss over this.

What an absolute knob.

MrsJoyless · 10/01/2023 22:03

"KV"? Did no one, not one single proofreader, know that English schoolboys traditionally mispronounce "cave" in this way? I assume Harry himself never took Latin....

Assume it means ''Beware'' , like ''Cave Canum?''

mackthepony · 11/01/2023 02:18

Some of the excuses for Harry on here are mind-boggling.

He wrote the book as a privileged, supposedly educated man. Not a naive teenager!

MrsJoyless · 11/01/2023 02:25

Yes, precisely. Clearly, not everyone will recognise this, but I would have expected someone in the literary world of a publisher to do so. It's a tiny bit disappointing that Harry himself doesn't, even now, understand what he was saying as a schoolboy, given the nature of his schooling.

SpookyBlackCat · 11/01/2023 03:10

I’m in awe of the people actually reading a whole book of this shite.

marcopront · 11/01/2023 03:58

Could one of those people who are claiming "content" please post a photo of the part where he redeems himself?

Tezza1 · 11/01/2023 04:25

When I read the excerpt I couldn't work out what KV was supposed to mean, which is a bit sad as I have considered many times trying to make the classic Roman "Cave Canem" mosaic but I have never been able to find a pattern. I will put it down to being Australian, not my lack of ability to generalise.

Is the where the expression I remember from Georgette Heyer, "He's a havey-cavey kind o cove" came from?

vera99 · 11/01/2023 06:13

Mr Putin move over we have seen pure evil at work. 😁

user1497787065 · 11/01/2023 06:51

Harry and Meghan would be calling their lawyers is some of this shit had been written about them.

bizzywiththefizzy · 11/01/2023 07:16

I don't understand this . Diana used to take the boys to charity visits with her . She tried so hard to try to teach them compassion .
Wonder what went wrong , maybe Charles was afraid to discipline him and he just got away with everything .

BalloonSlayer · 11/01/2023 07:23

Given that one of the main themes in the book is how the media twist and misrepresent stories, you would think Harry would have hired someone experienced in the media (or even just a normal person) who could tell him how the media might "misinterpret" what he has written.

Eg stating that you have killed a large, actual, number of people rather than being vague may, just may, be presented as boasting about killing people, so go careful.

Or writing in detail of exactly how you mocked a disabled person may, just may, be presented as you being the sort of person who mocks disabled people.

Menstrualcycledisplayteam · 11/01/2023 08:03

No. Read it yourself and make your own mind up, like a person with half a brain.

Yes it is staggering that he wasn't better advised. We know he isn't very bright but surely one of his enablers could've spotted how bad the 'not hot/ crooked spine teacher' story sounded.

BlackFriday · 10/01/2023 21:50

Anyone else getting more than a little bit tired of people trying to minimise unpleasant anecdotes that HARRY HIMSELF has written in this pile of shit by tryng to imply that they're taken out of context?

Yes

Rhondaa · 11/01/2023 08:14

The 'but but context' desperados demonstrate absolutely no evidence of context changing his bullying comments.

Does he say at any point his behaviour was so wrong and he was thoroughly ashamed of his behaviour? Nope. He's spewing his shit tales for fun.

Bosk · 11/01/2023 08:22

Anyone who hasn't noticed that PH is a raging misogynist isn't paying attention.

BalloonSlayer · 11/01/2023 08:25

I agree that when you read his whole account of the war it does come across as more thoughtful.

However I would be interested to know how - even if they had taken the section exactly as Harry wanted it to come over - he thought the Taliban would take it?

He is complaining that media misrepresentation has increased his security risk. But did he expect an "all's fair in love and war innit, good on you mate" from the Taliban if they had read his book for themselves, which they no doubt have by now?

(Although maybe he is referring to the security risk from smaller groups. But he and Meghan have been threatened by them before, so there is even more reason to consider all possible interpretations and outcomes.)

Newwardrobe · 11/01/2023 08:45

He could so easily have given his account of Afghanistan without mentioning how many people he killed or that he actually killed anyone at all .

psycopaths are born that way

Swissmountains · 11/01/2023 09:01

I was actually furious - red hot rage kind of furious when I read that section that he tortured and mocked a disabled matron, that was clearly in pain and struggling.

It disgusts me that he STILL has no awareness of how awful this behaviour truly was, and now he has exposed her in a book that is being sold all over the world. The final humiliation.

How anyone allowed it to stay in the book (I can only imagine they want the world to see what kind of man he truly is, in his own words) thinking it was a good idea to show the world what a nasty bully this man actually is, and has always been is staggering.

What a catch meghan, what a catch 😖

I agree, I don't think there's any 'context' that makes this ok . I get that kids are not very nice sometimes but to write this in a book that thousands will read is just nasty.
