Is this a vile joke????? What the hell…. Honestly that’s horrid through and through. NO not everyone says vile things as a kid…. This is the same with him using racial slurs and you saying “oh it was different then”.. it was NOT. Omg if anyone in my family behaved like that they’d be sternly and seriously taught about respect and decency.

garlicandsapphires · 10/01/2023 23:00

I just looked up the KV thing.
‘cave’ means ‘beware’ in Latin. So not ‘KV’

Surely that’s really sloppy editing?!

borntobequiet · 10/01/2023 23:02

MrsJoyless · 10/01/2023 22:03

"KV"? Did no one, not one single proofreader, know that English schoolboys traditionally mispronounce "cave" in this way? I assume Harry himself never took Latin....

This.
@MrsJoyless I doubt you have ever sponsored a prize for rafia work.

Blossomtoes · 10/01/2023 23:10

No shame whatsoever. I thought he was more sinned against than sinning but he’s really revealed himself to be a nasty piece of work with this book and the interviews.

Ridemeginger · 10/01/2023 23:14

People twisting themselves into pretzels to make this disablist shit head look like a good man. A good man would go and visit Pat in private and apologise. Not stick it in a book, try to make himself look like the hero for making "miserable" Pat laugh once in a while, and make millions off it.

User4873628 · 10/01/2023 23:16

If Pat was my mum I'd be so upset. How horrible.

LavenderHillMob · 10/01/2023 23:19

I can only think that as someone who has had a lot of therapy, when the ghost writer encouraged Harry to talk, Harry treated it exactly like his therapy sessions and blurted everything out unfiltered.

Gilmorehill · 10/01/2023 23:21

Harrysfrostbittentodger · 10/01/2023 20:36

I agree he shouldn’t have named her, hopefully it is just a pseudonym, but as others pointed out I bet it’s easy to identify her.

However, I find it refreshing that he has admitted to this. I don’t think any one is 100% good. I bet even Diana was capable of being mean at some points in her life. I consider myself a fairly good person and I can think back to some awful things I’ve done/said in my youth. The only difference is we’re not admitting our faults/past mistakes in a book for all to admit.

Oh ffs he has confessed to making fun of her, the little shit. I can only pray she is unaware to spare her from the hurt.

Blossomtoes · 10/01/2023 23:21

I hope she sells her story to the highest bidder. That would really serve him right.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 10/01/2023 23:23

I'm sure the tabloids are already on her doorstep. As they will make even more money than she will.

Ridemeginger · 10/01/2023 23:25

I'm actually starting to think the RF should issue a statement - apologising for unleashing this nasty man on the unsuspecting public.

Wheresthebeach · 10/01/2023 23:28

Well that’s just awful. Poor woman

Blossomtoes · 10/01/2023 23:31

The irony that all Meghan asked about him was “Is he kind?” Well, obviously not, quite the reverse.

Theunamedcat · 10/01/2023 23:33

If/when my child comes home telling tales about the teacher who "walks funny etc" the first thing I do is reprimanded them for being mean and tell them to use their name I do not condone any cruelty

Harry was never taught that clearly

MrsJoyless · 10/01/2023 23:33

Oh yes I did, borntobequiet, but that was in happier times.

Yes! I'm very surprised this wasn't picked up. Anyone who has done Latin for more than five minutes should know KV=cave! (look out, or beware, for those who don't know).

ScribblingPixie · 10/01/2023 23:39

Keeping cavey/cave - it's really so common, I think they needed British proof readers.
I am so curious to hear what the ghost writer was thinking while he was writing this book, what he hoped the reaction would be to it.

BabyFour2023 · 10/01/2023 23:40

Menstrualcycledisplayteam · 10/01/2023 22:49

It's simply a description of her appearance. If I describe someone as being in a wheelchair, or having one leg, am I mocking their appearance? Or describing it? The confected outrage is tedious.

Would you be happy reading those words about your child?

BoringLittleMe · 10/01/2023 23:40

I read that extract. At the end he tries to redeem himself by saying she laughed too, but I have laughed along with people who were making fun of me despite feeling upset inside. I was surprised there was no "I feel terrible about it now" in there, not even a hint.

It's like historical fiction on television when a young Prince does something horrible to a nanny or tutor, and they have to smile and laugh along with the joke because they don't want to get in trouble with the royals.

RedAndBlueStripedGolfingUmbrella · 11/01/2023 00:45

I've literally just finished reading this part of the book.
He was describing his school days and how they used to behave.
One maton they felt they couldn't approach as she was harsh with them ( for want of a better word as can't remember exact wording used)
Also in a separate bit how they used to have the house mistresses (matrons) act as you parents who aren't there, and then how as you get older you start to experience them as being hot seeing as they're the opposite sex, and hormones and all that)
Boarding school must really fuck you up in several ways emotionally ( that's a whole different topic though so let's not go there 😳🙂)

Is it common? I'm British and never heard of that saying before!
Maybe it's regional or class or something?! 😕

miri1985 · 10/01/2023 21:37

I've made up my mind myself reading the book that it was cruel, unkind and insenstive to include jibes about her appearance and disabilities

On audible he reads this section without a hint of shame. I can't understand what he thinks it adds to his story.

Newwardrobe · 11/01/2023 01:30

Just when you think it can't get any worse. That poor woman .

HarryTheStallion · 11/01/2023 01:36

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/01/2023 22:01

Was that written in a book by a 38 YEAR OLD MAN?!

The parts I've read remind me of the English homework my children did in Year 5 or 6 when they had to cram in as many adjectives as possible.
