I've tried to stick with believing these two yet there are more holes than swiss cheese..

I'm sorry it's the DM, they do have the extract though.....

Nitrous oxide ran out..... seriously? Portland....as in Hospital? Ran out of Gas?

It’s bizarre. And then include this in a book? That other people will read?

He seems to think that things like this, him losing his virginity in a field, his frostbitten penis and killing 25 Talliban makes him an exciting hero more interesting! Sadly, it just shows what a stupid, bitter and insecure nutjob he really is. I am not a Royalist, but think he and Meghan deserve each other and thank god he is the younger son! Can you imagine that pair as King and Queen (actually scrap that, it is the sort of thing nightmares are made of)!

crosspusscrossstitcher · 08/01/2023 13:34

Oh my the Portland. Yes. I watched a programme about some years ago. Amazing kitchen. Afternoon tea brought to mother after birth. Baby taken away and looked after…for as long as you want.

Maybe that's so the child was safe, and not handled by a drug addict.

darklady64 · 08/01/2023 13:35

I think this was something designed to make people laugh at the idea he would be accused because he was so nervous.
The made call he made with this book was thinking people would take some of it with a pinch of salt rather than dissect every sentence and use it against him. Despite the fact his major complaint is that is exactly what the media have deon since he was born.

I don't think you can have loads of trailers of them sitting there, all serious, declaring that they're about to reveal "their truth" and then expect everyone to take it all with a pinch of salt or see it as all a bit of a laugh and he didn't really mean it.

Whatever the truth of this anecdote is, none of it is a good look. It's either an exaggerated "I'm mad, me - what a lad I am" story, which is a bit pathetic in an adult man. Or it's all true. Not sure which is worse, and why H felt the need to share it all with the group.

TheShellBeach · 08/01/2023 13:38

Surely it's piped into the labour ward rooms in hospitals nowadays?

Really?

It's a pretty universal trope that the dad to be has a little go. I thought it was pretty normal

Really? I don’t know any father who has done this. DH certainly didn’t.

Has anyone here been to the portland?

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 08/01/2023 13:49

This thing is, all these things are measured as to how much you have had. Like morphine, I was on a morphine pump after I broke my leg/had metal plates in and they know how many times it was clicked and put into my system. Same with gas and air. God forbid they had to get the baby out quickly how would they know how much of it did Megan have to know what they could also give her as a pain relief?

Like fentanyl, it's a precise dose. Mixed with anything else can be fatal.

I'm beginning to feel very sorry for H&M's children. What an absolute tool Harry is. Poor kids!

Yes they don't deserve to have children they should be removed for their own safety!!

HerReputationMadeItDifficultToProceed · 08/01/2023 13:57

Our G&A was in the wall at our hospital. It's fairly new- 15yrs oldish- but still an NHS bogstandard hospital. Surely The Portland has plumbed-in G&A too?!

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 08/01/2023 13:58

@MilkshakesBringAllTheCoosToTheYard
Though if my husband had brought a photo of his mother into the delivery room, he would have actually needed gas and air for the subsequent extraction...

Ah but this is Meghan don't forget, who appears to have built much of her appeal to Harry by bringing Diana into everything.

Answering a few points that have come up in the thread… gas and air is provided in cylinders most commonly - much better for the environment and more portable (so a woman isn’t limited to the length of tubing attached to the wall). Lots of places are getting rid of their pipeline supply because of the environmental impact (and generally phasing its use out completely). The dosing isn’t measured at all - the cylinder 50:50 nitrous/oxygen and so long as it’s stored appropriately that doesn’t change - it’s very safe (hence is long history of use on labour ward). Some women (or their partners) chug through tonnes of the stuff and some not so much. It’s not the same stuff that kids use to get high (which is just nitrous and does come with the risk of hypoxia). HTH

Entinox leaves the system so quickly that it's not really an issue for other drugs and emergency interventions.

@Greybeardy and @NightTerrors thank you for correcting my concerns. Really good to know 😊 X

That’s actually a few hospitals banning gas and air on Labour wards now as not safe for staff to be constantly exposed to it as there’s so much in the air. Scavenger units aren’t very good at sucking it up. There’s a lot of talk about it affecting midwives fertility.

ReluctantCourier · 08/01/2023 14:06

Portland might have cans either environmentally or as a listed/heritage building it might not be piped into all rooms

This is what I dont understand. He is voluntarily telling the world details of the most private times of his life, the births, miscarriage grandmother's death, mother's death, virginity etc. I just can't understand why he is doing this.

eSame! I just cannot comprehend why he would write about how he lost his virginity behind a pub-nasty or all the other stuff. It’s now being said that he’s made his children and the Invictus games targets for extremists. His remarks re killing the Taliban fighters elicited a response from them of ‘He’s a loser with a big mouth’. I have to agree. Why is he doing this? What is the motivation? Because it comes across as bitter and vengeful.

Tinner01 · 08/01/2023 14:17

Falalalalalalaetc · 08/01/2023 11:21

Maybe Meghan didn't veto the book so that we'd all understand when she leaves.

You might be along the right lines here, I feel very bad as she has been consistently portrayed as the one who wears the trousers when it seems that is not true whatsoever. Not saying she doesn’t have her own issues but he is a lot more knobbish etc than we were lead to believe.

JADS · 08/01/2023 14:26

I wondered if he is using this little anecdote is to show that UK Harry = twatty, lad behaviour, idiot (complete with a cheeky Nandos). When he becomes Cali Harry he is so zen and in tune with himself that he delivered his own daughter and his is the first face she saw. Sounds like he is clumsily trying to show his "growth".

Forthelast · 08/01/2023 14:27

Taking a little sniff is normal I think. But to sit there and get high on it while your wife suffers is not.

I'm not sure him writing a book & her not fine toothcombing it means she doesn't wear the trousers though!

Maybe she does in respect that Harry has always had his life organised for him & she now does that.

I think in the Oprah interview she does seem to speak for him?

shockthemonkey · 08/01/2023 14:35

I can't get het up about Harry taking some of the gas and air. Firstly, if the canister was nearly empty it could have been emptied after a puff or two, and secondly, when I was in labour I did urge my husband to have a puff as I thought it was hilarious, I had the giggles and wanted to see him giggle too.

It's certainly not up to Meghan to make sure her DH isn't taking any of the gas and air. Harry may be suggesting he overindulged for comic effect... or he may indeed have got high. Hard to know unless we can read the entire passage, the tone of that passage and the context around it.

But no, there's not enough there to get excited about.

That's an interesting thought.

Perhaps his next book will be about how wonderful his life is since he "found freedom" as an absolute "fuck you!" to the RF?

Well, we're going to have to agree to disagree here.
If you're a birth partner it's not about you, and I think you've got a responsibility to at least stay alert. According to the excerpt, he didn't just take a little puff, but quite a lot.
I think any other expectation of any man is setting the bar low.
Anyway, we don't even know if it's true, because he's hardly a reliable narrator, so this all maybe about nothing.

AnotherNameChangeYes · 08/01/2023 15:04

Patients can drive half an hour after using Entonox, it’s eliminated from the body very quickly.

Falalalalalalaetc · 08/01/2023 15:11

The only good thing about this story is that, as private patients in presumably a well resourced hospital, he probably wasn't depriving a woman in intense pain of pain relief by using it. If it'd been NHS that might not have been true.

I bet the nurses hated him. What a knob.
